Gateway Arch bomb plot stopped by maxed out EBT card?

November 27, 2014

EBT Last week two men were arrested for allegedly planning to blow up the Gateway Arch as well as plotting to kill both St. Louis County Prosecutor Robert McCulloch and Ferguson Police Chief Tom Jackson as part of the Ferguson protests.

However these plotters apparently ran into a little problem because they could not afford to buy more bombs until one suspect’s girlfriend’s EBT card was reloaded.

  Here is more:

Sources say the men planned to kill St. Louis County Prosecutor Robert McCulloch, and Ferguson Police Chief Tom Jackson, and also planned to bomb the famed Gateway Arch in downtown St. Louis. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports the men bought what they believed to be a pipe bomb from undercover police but could not afford more bombs “until one suspect’s girlfriend’s Electronic Benefit Transfer card was replenished.”

At this point I have to admit that I have a problem with this type of sting operation because it seems to me that in some cases the authorities actually entice people into committing crimes they otherwise would not have conceived of on their own. The authorities can then claim a victory for thwarting an attack which they enticed in the first place, and which otherwise had no chance of becoming a reality, or of which was never any real threat until they made it a threat. It reeks of entrapment in many cases…

I have no idea if that is the case here but I will say this: In my opinion this shows us that it might just be time to look at reforming the EBT system. When an EBT card can be used to acquire cash which can then be used to buy bombs we might just have a small problem with the system as it is currently instituted and implemented…

This is lengthy, but well worth the read! Might brings things into perspective for people.

If it had just been put in a few days earlier, but they have to wait until the 3rd of the month. Pity, huh? I get really tired of being behind someone in line that has a cart full of food, whips out the EBT card and then a big wad of cash for what the card will not pay for….I wish I had that EBT card to pay for my groceries, but, NOOOOO, I had to pay for theirs. On top of that, I have very little I am buying and probably do not drive as nice of a car as they are. Isn’t it great to be in the great country of Entitlements??

Hay Lou, why waste your (not) hard earned money for necessities when you have bombs to buy?

I have problems with this story as well. First, I have a problem with this type of entrapment and second, I don’t think the lack of EBT funds thwarted the deal. These men allegedly already bought a bomb so I don’t see how the Feds didn’t already have what they needed. However I do think this highlights a major problem with allowing EBT cardholders to get cash from there cards.

OT, apparently “Black Friday” is now racist, I have been waiting for that to happen, haven’t YOU? It is now going around on Facebook. Next thing, the Congressional Black Caucus will be racist! Oh wait……….
