Open thread for Sunday, March 8th: The Beaten Generation

March 8, 2015

open-thread  Here is the open thread for Sunday, March 8th. Please feel free to post links to interesting articles and to discuss whatever issues arise during the course of the day. Nothing is off-topic here.

After several slow weeks this week was more in line with my expectations with 11 posts, still not as many as I would like but did you miss any of them? If so there is an easy way to make sure it does not happen again. I understand that all of you are busy and cannot always find the time to check the blog for updates so why not subscribe to America’s Watchtower and receive email updates whenever I write a new post? That is the easiest way to follow the blog to ensure you never miss another post.

In addition to subscribing you can also follow America’s Watchtower on Facebook and Twitter by clicking the links on the right. But you will get more than that for I often post links to articles I probably will not be writing about so it is a great way to keep up with what is happening.

The Twitter widget in the sidebar is fully interactive. This widget updates my tweets in real time and allows you to respond to or retweet my tweets right from the blog. It also allows you to tweet me right from America’s Watchtower. How cool is that! If you do not have a Twitter account what better reason do you need to sign up for one!?

This week’s musical selection is a song by the band The The, yes The The, entitled “The Beaten Generation”

I do not agree with all of the lyrics contained in this song but there is an overall message I do agree with and if nothing else this song will make you think.

When you cast your eyes upon the skylines
Of this once proud nation
Can you sense the fear and the hatred
Growing in the hearts of its population
And our youth, oh youth, are being seduced
By the greedy hands of politics and half truths

The beaten generation, the beaten generation
Reared on a diet of prejudice and mis-information
The beaten generation, the beaten generation
Open your eyes, open your imagination

We’re being sedated by the gasoline fumes
And hypnotized by the satellites
Into believing what is good and what is right
You may be worshiping the temples of mammon
Or lost in the prisons of religion
But can you still walk back to happiness
When you’ve nowhere left to run?

The beaten generation, the beaten generation
Reared on a diet of prejudice and mis-information
The beaten generation, the beaten generation
Open your eyes, open your imagination

And if they send in the special police
To deliver us from liberty and keep us from peace
Then won’t the words sit ill upon their tongues
When they tell us justice is being done
And that freedom lives in the barrels of a warm gun

The beaten generation, the beaten generation
Reared on a diet of prejudice and mis-information
The beaten generation, the beaten generation
Open your eyes, open your imagination

I posted this as a comment on Bunkerville’s blog but thought it good to share here. A local from NV writes:
I Have A Plan To Save The Planet

In view of the ‘settled science’ that our use of fossil fuels is going to destroy us all, the following plan will be a constructive step in the right direction, to save our butts. This plan is principally based on the renewable, or green energy scenario.

First, we will dedicate a rather small segment of our domestic agriculture, let’s say, 5%. All tilling, cultivating and harvesting will be done manually, without the use of any fossil fuels. [NOTE THAT THIS WILL HAVE THE ANCILLARY BENEFT OF MAKING A DENT IN HIGH UNEMPLOYMENT.]

It is stipulated that this will cause vegetables to cost two-to-three times the cost of mechanized farming, but remember, this is based on the green-energy model. There will be the predictable resistance from those extreme radicals who cling to ‘logic’ and ‘common sense’ and they will have to be discredited, for the greater good, of course. Their objections will no-doubt be based on claims of inefficiency, cost and negative impact on supply, especially when the weather doesn’t cooperate.

The problem — er ‘um — “model deficiency” regarding cost can be solved by using the same green-energy model.

Thanks to my multiple, close political connections, enhanced by strategic campaign contributions, I can get legislation passed that the public must buy my product.

In a free market, the public would have a choice, but that would not allow me to gain any market share. The solution is obvious. My production will be blended into the larger market supply, and the increased cost will be spread across the remaining 95%. In subsequent years, my market share will be mandated to increase to 10%, then 20%, etc. People will just have to bite the bullet (organic bullet of course), and pony-up.

What about the poor, you ask. Simply take from those with an unfairly large share, and level the field. When saving the planet, we can’t be timid.

Of course, I will reap a bountiful income, and continue those strategic campaign contributions. Hey, that’s how the system works. Ignore those who call it “money laundering”. We are only concerned with the greater good, really.

Oh, did I mention, I will need a couple of hundred million taxpayer dollars for seed money, to get this in motion.

Contact your representatives in Washington, and Carson City, and lets get this ball rolling.
To help on a personal level, please send contributions to:

I think it will work, ZIP! I really do! We all have a few extra dollars we can finally part with for the added increase and for our fellow man, so as not to starve! /s

Well, it is not so unlike the government paying a farmer/rancher to not produce products.
I am so sick of being politically correct on all fronts, I should probably always keep my mouth shut, because I will offend someone somewhere.

You’re being ‘offended’ and here you are being courteous/thoughtful not wanting to ‘offend’ others (which is ‘in you’ for a different reason than what’s being forced by the Agenda). That Lou, is from your moral and godly upbringing – which is being trashed today. PC = a warped form of ‘consideration’ but only for those of the SYSTEM, not those of the ‘old ways that were actually Biblically based’. Hell forbid … Heavenly ways to be taught and consequently control our emotions! For we are what we know and learn and if it’s trash, we need to know that and dump it!

Does anyone remember watching this movie? There is so much being taken out of history books now, that the kids in school do not have a clue what history actually is. We had 3 sets of encyclopedias for the kids while they were growing up, the internet was, at best Texas Instruments then. I wish we had kept those books, but now I wonder how much we should be looking at the used book stores and take home some of the older books that might have closer to the truth than what they are teaching now. If this is what they are learning, why would they question it? I know sometimes it is a waste of time trying to convince someone that they might not know the whole truth about something. I have to wonder when they are falling asleep and thinking about the day, maybe they ponder what was said. The subconscious has a way of sorting things out without being interfered with, so maybe it puts a seed there that they might think about what was said later.

I DO remember that one. Thanks for bringing it up. I remember it being strange when seeing it – too young to understand what it meant – now it would be a whole new movie!

Ya, there were some movies before their time, but now, WOW! We watched Soylent Green the other night, has a whole new meaning now. I will post this trailer, but sorry ahead of time for the advertisement before the trailer, seems that is happening more and more….

No … it’s the writer’s stab at a joke of the ‘airy-wishful-make-believe-world Agenda thinking! Like we agree here on your blog their ‘Utopia’ isn’t ours! He was stating sarcastically these things because of the solar panels that went up in Tonopah and a new set suppose to got up in the Luning area (and that is the real name). There’s set in Gabbs – that only a few people who lived there got employment – the rest were shipped in – doesn’t sound like many. Energy costs are higher, it kills birds and eagles, requires large amounts of water to keep the plates clean (this is an area and drought area to begin with), but it Reid approved money-laundrying so it’s okay: http://www.solarreserve.com/what-we-do/csp-projects/crescent-dunes/
Few benefit from this, all under the guise of ‘green is good’ … like the money in their pockets from under the table.

That is what I thought but wouldn’t it have been ironic if it really did exist!

No one wanted to believe that our Government could/would do this to us….think it is finally sinking in? Surely those stupid people have to be listening to a “smidgen” of what is going on, right? OR, they are getting all those nice warm and fuzzy benefits to look the other way.

The PATRIOT Act was the beginning, the NDAA and the FAA Re-authorization Act were the next steps. I like to think that Lou is right and that people are starting to wake up but I am not sure most people are even paying attention to these pieces of legislation.

We try to get it out the best we can, Steve, we cannot rely on the media anymore. I is hard to convince someone of something other than what they have always believed. However, at least it will give them food for thought when they are laying in bed at night and going over the day. Our subconscious has a way of sorting things out without us criticizing what it is doing.
