Open thread for Sunday, April 5th: ‘Were You There When They Crucified My Lord’
Here is the open thread for Sunday, April 5th. Please feel free to post links to interesting articles and to discuss whatever issues arise during the course of the day. Nothing is off-topic here.
Last week we covered 14 stories, did you miss any of them? If so there is an easy way to make sure it does not happen again. I understand that all of you are busy and cannot always find the time to check the blog for updates so why not subscribe to America’s Watchtower and receive email updates whenever I write a new post? That is the easiest way to follow the blog to ensure you never miss another post.
In addition to subscribing you can also follow America’s Watchtower on Facebook and Twitter by clicking the links on the right. But you will get more than that for I often post links to articles I probably will not be writing about so it is a great way to keep up with what is happening.
The Twitter widget in the sidebar is fully interactive. This widget updates my tweets in real time and allows you to respond to or retweet my tweets right from the blog. It also allows you to tweet me right from America’s Watchtower. How cool is that! If you do not have a Twitter account what better reason do you need to sign up for one!
Now on to the musical selection of the week: I have decided to take the “Swiss Defence League Challenge” and will list my top 10 favorite bands one at a time in the weeks to follow. I had intended to begin the countdown this week but I have not had the chance to finish compiling my list or to sort out the order so I am delaying it by one week, but with today being Easter I thought I would share with you Johnny Cash singing “Were You There When They Crucified My Lord.”
Happy Easter everybody, enjoy:

SDL, did you miss my first pick of the 10 last Sunday? It was Roy Orbison.

Yes I heard Roy Orbison and put a like. There are many songs that are jumping generation, Pretty Woman is a Van Halen song, until I discover Roy Orbison…It’s like putting the Clock at his rightful time… Thank you 🙂

Yes, very good version of the song! One of the people in my top ten list does a version as well but it is not nearly as good.

Happy Easter to all!
After much thought I have chosen POCO for my #9 spot. This is a group made up of very talented people from other groups and moved on to form new groups from there. They transcended barriers from Country to Rock and somewhere in between. The voices blended beautifully and the 3 part harmonies were wonderful. POCO, is many groups in one, I guess is what I am saying. Here is a bio if anyone wants to read it:http://www.last.fm/music/Poco/+wiki After reading who all has been in POCO, you will see what talented musicians they were/are. The groups from there are equally impressive.
They were from my early 70’s music I listened to and still have albums (yes I still have MANY albums) that I break out once in awhile on my first turntable from years gone by. Short of my son “borrowing” my albums, they are in covers and protected!

I hadn’t heard of them but I did enjoy that, thanks for sharing. By the way, there are people out there who still prefer the sound of a record over the clean sound of digital because they feel it adds to the music.

I did listen it, 4 times now. There is a side of it, like wearing a Stetson.. Then let’s say a sound of the 70’s band in a fine mesure.
I feel like in a scene of the Blues Brothers when they make a gig in place where they gonna get Lynched, until they play “Rawhide” from the TV Shows with Clint Eastwood, and make their day just fine…..

There will never be another Johnny Cash, our loss. Great song for today! Thanks for sharing this old video.

Johnny Cash was one of those artists who transcended genres. Even people who do not like country like Johnny Cash.

Ya, I like that bit of a “scratchy” sound to an album, I knew if I kept them long enough, they would be back!
The people in POCO, if you look at that bio link I sent, you will see are in alot of very popular groups. Buffalo Springfield was a group they were in and of course Loggins and Messina and the Eagles, to name a few. The main recognizable people are Richie Furay, Tim Schmit, Jim Messina, Randy Meisner and Rusty Young….my favorite album would be “From the Inside” that POCO did.

You are back in style! 🙂
I did see they were in Buffalo Springfield and a few other bands, it sounds like they have contributed quite a bit to the music industry!

Buffalo Springfield will not be in my top 10, but I listened alot to friends play in a band when I was late teens/early 20’s and they played a good version of “Burned” that still has to be one of my favorite songs. We have talked about how certain songs take you back to a certain time, remember SDL? This is one of those for me, I was wearing the high waisted bell bottom jeans, had long straight hair, wore platforms (I am only 5 ft 2 in.) so that helped me out and wore alot of Mascara, haha! Good times, those days, had my TR3 Triumph and good friends, going to college and had a bright future ahead of me….now fast forward to 61 years and where the hell did that time go???
This is an old version while their voices were young and could hit all the notes.!

That is keeping up with the whole nobody is responsible for their actions mentality that seems to be sweeping the nation. Nobody feels as if they have to answer to anyone anymore.

WE SEEK THE PROOF FOR OURSELVES AND THE FACTUAL BIOGRAPHY. MANY PEOPLE COULD NOT CONCLUDE THAT OBAMA IS THE ANTI-CHRIST, FOR IN THE BIBLE IT STATES THAT THE ANTI-CHRIST SHALL HAVE NO DESIRE FOR A WOMAN. THE PROOF IS IN MICHELLE’S (PENIS) THE REAL NAME IS MICHAEL ROBINSON. THE ELITE HAVE IN A SNEAKY WAY, BROUGHT A DRAG QUEEN INTO THE WHITE HOUSE, WHICH MEANS THE ANTI-CHRIST IS HAVING AN AFFAIR WITH ANOTHER MAN. AS FAR AS THE KIDS, THEY WERE ALLOWED TO BE ADOPTED TO LOOK LIKE THEY ARE A NORMAL FAMILY. MOREOVER, THEY ARE REPTILIAN SHAPE SHIFTERS. THE LATE JOAN RIVERS WOULD NEVER IN THIS WORLD HAVE ANY REASON TO MISREPRESENT THIS.

Happy Resurrection Day! There are good eggs and bad eggs, regardless their color or outward appearance, it’s the inside that counts! In honored day, it’s good to remember that the Son of God died for ‘all’ and His death, burial and resurrection made it possible for all to be saved! Whosoever will believe upon him are justified in the eyes of God – it’s a gift.
Here’s one by our sanity friend, Bill Whittle. Godly character is more attractive than the opposite.

Zip, we should be so lucky to have someone like Bill Whittle in a Government position! I know there are level headed people out there, but I guess I cannot blame them for not wanting to step up to the plate. The Media would dig as deep as they would have to, to find dirt on them and ruin them. If there was no dirt, they would make it up. It seems there are those that would believe it, untrue or not.

It only takes one bad egg to spoil an omelette! There’s more people like Bill I think that just aren’t in a situation to do much. And like you say Lou the Med-ia drugs the masses to believe that the lie is the truth and the truth absurd! The liars keep changing the rules and where the ‘plate’ is! Confusion and no solid, consistent base.

Salvation And Survival
John 12:23-25
Posted: 05 Apr 2015 05:00 AM PDT
Jesus replied, “The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat falls
to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed.
But if it dies, it produces many seeds.
The man who loves his life will lose it, while the man
who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.”
As the Christian Church celebrates Easter in the year 2015, it is appropriate to contemplate this verse today. It is important that we recognize what Jesus meant when He said “the hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified.” He knew, without a doubt, that His Father’s plan was being put into motion. He knew that the Jews were about to reject Him, which would open the door for the Gentile nations to know Him. And it would be by the eventual Gentile Church that He would be magnified, and His glory would abound.
God knew the exact day and the exact hour that He would accomplish the redemption of man through the death of His Son. And Jesus is accepting of His mission and speaks of its approach with honor and a sense of triumph.
His analogy of the kernel of wheat is an obvious picture of His redeeming grace. God, the Father, has made Him the seed and the root of His people. But for that seed to multiply, He must die. The seed must be buried in the ground before it can sprout and produce fruit. And so it was with our Savior.
The multitude of saved souls that have sprung from that one seed speaks of His glory and power. For a couple thousand years the Church has grown and replenished itself with faithful saints who have clung to the root of the faith, Jesus Christ, Himself. His legacy is one of Glory and Praise.
But the last sentence of these verses drives us toward a sober thought; especially in these days in which we are living. We can see that this world is getting more difficult for Christ’s followers. To remain faithful to our King and Savior is not popular, nor is it aligned with our changing societal laws and regulations. At this moment, Christians are having to make choices between following Christ or their livelihoods. Right now, we are only looking at fines and public ridicule. Are we prepared to face the life-threatening situations that our fellow Christians are experiencing in the Middle East and Africa?
In this telling Scripture, just prior to His own death, Christ is telling us that this life — in this world — is not worth preserving. In fact, I can’t tell you how many of my fellow Christians, who have been “on the wall” the last few years, have told me that they despise this world and are ready to go Home. It sickens our hearts and spirits to see that the world values its idols, and its money, and its selfish desires more than it esteems the Savior of mankind. We, his faithful followers, long for eternal life with Him, and hate that we are bound by our flesh in this world.
As the Church celebrates our Lord’s resurrection today, let us keep in mind that we should not only focus on glorifying Him and the Father for their gift of salvation, but that we should ready ourselves to follow in His steps in every way — even unto death. We may be vilified in this world, but we will be raised to a glorious eternal life that overshadows anything we coveted in this shallow life.
Just as each kernel of wheat is singularly sown to yield a bountiful harvest, I give thanks for what was sown in my heart, and look forward to being part of the Heavenly Harvest!
