Rand Paul speaks out on court decision which ruled the NSA spying program is illegal

May 10, 2015

As far as I can tell there is only one candidate on either side of the aisle who is outspoken against the NSA data-mining program and that person is Rand Paul. Last week the Second Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the NSA spying program was illegal because it went beyond what the Congress authorized under the PATRIOT Act, but it did not rule the program was unconstitutional.

As America’s Watchtower wrote when covering this decision:

This is a victory but it is not a complete victory for the court did not rule the NSA spaying program was unconstitutional, only that it was illegal because it went beyond what the Congress authorized and of course there are those of us who believe the entire PATRIOT Act might be unconstitutional.

This ruling leaves open the possibility that the Congress can vote to approve such domestic spying and if I am reading this right it would mean using that logic the program would then be legalized by the Congress. Simply expanding an act which is likely unconstitutional in order bring a government program into compliance with that law by “legalizing” it through the Congress is not the answer!

And now it appears as if Rand Paul agrees with America’s Watchtower on this issue, here is a video of an interview the Senator from Kentucky held with Glenn back after the ruling was handed down:

Malo periculosam libertatem quam quietum servitium

With McConnell and Bohner picking up the slack from Reid and Pelosi this should be a slam dunk for the regime. The entire slate of GOP presidential hopefuls with the exception of Rand Raul seems to have its collective thumb in the air as usual. So much for debating and discussing the issues.

Unfortunately you are right, this is going to come up for a vote soon and all they are going to do is “legalize” the program through legislation. They are not going to address the constitutionality of it. This could be a chance for Paul to make a big stand and differentiate himself from everybody else.
