Republican Senator Bob Corker claims the NSA should be collecting more data on American citizens
Last week the Second Court of Appeals ruled that the NSA data-mining program was illegal because it exceeded the authority granted the agency under the PATRIOT Act. As I said in my previous posts on this issue: this decision was a step in the right direction but it was not a complete victory because the data-mining program was not ruled unconstitutional. This means the Congress, when it votes to re-authorize the PATRIOT Act, can then make legal the illegal program through amendment with utter disregard for the Constitution and the Fourth Amendment.
And today the first sign that my fears were justified came to light when Republican Senator Bob Corker, after a secret briefing, told a group that the NSA was not going far enough with its domestic spying program.
Here is more:
Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Bob Corker said Wednesday he was shocked to learn this week how little data the National Security Agency is actually amassing in its controversial collection of Americans’ phone records.
“It’s almost malpractice,” Corker said at a breakfast for reporters hosted by TheChristian Science Monitor. “That’s the best word I can use to describe the amount of data that is being collected.”
Corker, who said the NSA’s data collection needs to be “ramped up hugely”, was reacting to a closed-door briefing that national security officials held Tuesday to brief senators on federal surveillance programs.
“I think there was an aha moment (Tuesday) for people on both sides of the aisle when we realized how little data is being collected,” said Corker, R-Tenn. “It’s beyond belief how little data is part of this program, especially if the goal is to uncover terrorists.”
And from this story:
He says the American public should be less worried about privacy and should back increased collection as a means of foiling terrorist attacks.
To be fair, that AP article does not attribute this as a direct quote although it implies he said it and it is clear to me that even if he did not say it that is what he means. What was that quote from Benjamin Franklin about giving up liberty for security…
Clearly Bob Corker does not understand, or perhaps does not care about, what the meaning of the Fourth Amendment is.
Malo periculosam libertatem quam quietum servitium

It would be interesting Steve to know what they ‘do understand’. If you watch the show, ‘Person of Interest’ you’d see the connection of how those in this gov. are locked in (willingly or ignorantly) to the Borg mentality system / god of this world computer. The collective mindless conformity, of which they are enabling right along! What about Clinton’s & Obama’s terrorist acts, how come they catch those (emails) and toss them to the side as if nothing, but want to know what size shorts you wear! … and what ‘brand’ too! 🙂 sick perverts! They all look ‘oh, so caring’. Wolves.

It is a ‘telling’ show isn’t it. Well done, good acting and the bad people are really bad! Just like in the real world! I find the name of the wacko dictator computer, ‘Samaritan’ ironic. Instead of picking the victim out of the gutter and mending them back together, this one puts them in the gutter and exterminates them if they don’t ‘comply’! Bad computer, really bad! Just like ‘know it all date mining’.

I love the characters and the actors. Jim Caviezel is awesome, not to mention sexy as heck. 😉 Michael Emerson is fantastic! I loved to hate him on ‘Lost.’ Amy Acker is just brilliant! I’m a huge Buffy and Angel fan – Amy Acker played ‘Fred’ on Angel – I just loved her on Angel.

Thanks for the reblog and welcome back! Glad to see everything is okay, I remember you were having some type of internet or computer problem at one time.

Correct. Then, my youngest granddaughter knocked the tower to the floor, ending the tower’s misery. After that, a rather serious reoccurring health issue of a family member that required my undivided attention, and I was worn beyond fatigue and simply forgot to replace the PC or bother with the blog, emails, and so forth. I feel like the Standing Eight Count: punch drunk.

I, too, am glad to see you back. I do hope the health issue has been resolved, or, at least, is manageable and under control. 🙂

From time to time we all have circumstances that take us away to reality and the here and now. Glad things are slowing down for you and welcome back, Brittius.

Good to see you back Brittius! Sorry to hear about all the struggles and ongoings, but you stood and did what needed to be done – a pat on the back and ‘good show old boy’. Your granddaughter probably did you a favor, to upgrade! What do you think about that train wreck in Philly? Computer hacker?

Thanks, Zip. Getting old, isn’t easy, things just get harder and I seem to be forgetting more at times. The PC was a downgrade of sorts. The unit that had problems was an hp Intel tower in Windows 8.1, that was trouble from the the start when it was purchased new, after Super Storm Sandy destroyed my beloved Windows 7 unit. I managed to get into the tower and poke around and the PC started to work, offering a test, so I ran three tests on my own, despite being computer illiterate. I wrote all the codes, and telephoned hp. I was on hold for half hour listening to some woman in a shrill voice singing, then some guy gets on the line. Forty minutes later, I realized, he was speaking English (!). He wanted a credit card for a $59.99 house call by one of his technicians (?), and $459.99 for the little black box with the disc inside. I went to a local shop. The owner is USAF Reserve, and he does computer repairs for USAF. He said there was something on the disc and it appeared to be a military signature. He refused to make a repair. The PC prior to my granddaughter’s potato masher foot, was going haywire. The cursor moving by itself, and what I was posting was being deleted as I was looking at it. Several times, what I wrote, was deleted and rewritten. To me, that means a computer backdoor was open. Into the dumpster with the 8.1 unit, and the computer shop sold me a refurbished Dell Windows 7 Professional tower. I told them in the shop, if I put it back together and hook it up, I hope the new tower doesn’t start ticking or doing the A-rab, “L-L-L-L-L!!!”, stuff. They laughed. I put the PC together and everything is working. I could not get to read over 112,000 emails and bulk deleted to start fresh. The Philly Amtrak wreck, something tells me (my gut feeling), is that possibly it may be human error. Catastrophic failure is possible, but if things progressively worsened, train crews would be complaining to their union due to health and safety issues uncorrected. I highly doubt that. Maybe the engineer dozed off or had the dead-man switch tied off? No black box that I am aware of can pinpoint without CCTV. Everything costs so much, I doubt if an entire rail system nationwide, could ever be replaced.., unless some shitbag is monkeying with things and shouting, “L-L-L-L-L!!!”.

What a time ‘that’s’ been. Your backdoor issue brought to mind Stuxnet. Which the writer of this article thinks was involved w/ the Philly wreck, since much of these trains are computerized and have governors installed. http://jimstone.is/stuxnetamtrak.html Hope your new PC stays clean and safe!

You cannot go wrong with Windows 7…I tried (emphasis on “tried”) to upgrade to Windows 8 awhile back, hahahaha! Enough said. You are better off with Windows 7. My daughter tried that scam of giving some Eastern Indian/Pakistani money to get into her computer (she was routed from HP to this tech support), I stopped her, no telling what they would have downloaded that would need to be “cleaned” up on it. There are many scam artists, aren’t there? Better off finding someone local you can lay eyes on. Sounds like you have one hell of alot of mail to go thru, if ever!
The train wreck does appear to be human error, at least to me. I still like to have control of whatever vehicle I am in. Not that it is a no fail system, but at least I have the controls.

I can probably answer for most of us here, there is MORE than enough that the Government knows about each and ever one of us, as it is. To have a Republican say this, shames me. Maybe if we want to do something, we should start closing the borders and letting the border guards do their job, not hold them back. Give them real live rounds for their weapons and forget the damn bean bags to fight back. Maybe we should follow along the lines of Israel on doing profile checks. Oh, I forgot, that is racist, isn’t it? We might offend someone if we did that. The Muslims might be offended, but when are they NOT? This Administration has gone off the deep end. They are offending the Americans by their actions and I am pretty sure, that is their goal. Screw their “aha moment”!
