Latest Iowa polls show Ben Carson and Bernie Sanders closing in on frunt-runners

August 30, 2015

There are a couple of new Iowa polls out there and they seem to show that both the Republican and Democratic elections are in a state of flux. First up is the Republican poll which shows that Ben Carson is surging and is now within striking distance of Donald Trump.

Retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson has emerged as a leading Republican presidential candidate in Iowa and is closing in on frontrunner Donald Trump in the state that hosts the first 2016 nomination balloting contest.

The latest Bloomberg Politics/Des Moines Register Iowa Poll shows billionaire Trump with the support of 23 percent of likely Republican caucus participants, followed by Carson at 18 percent. When first and second choices are combined, Carson is tied with Trump.

Although the poll does apparently find Trump in a better position likeability-wise than he was when the last Iowa poll was taken.

It is interesting to note that the two Republican front-runners in Iowa are about as anti-establishment as you can get as neither one of them have ever held political office before. This should send a loud and clear message to the establishment about how the voters feel the new Republican-led Senate has been doing but of course they will not listen–preferring instead to just throw more money at the establishment candidate hoping it will stem the bleeding.

Something similar is happening on the Democratic side as well–although the two leading candidates are about as establishment as a big government liberal could hope for–as Bernie Sanders is closing the gap on the once-thought inevitable coronation of Hillary Clinton.

  Here is more:

A new Des Moines Register/Bloomberg Politics Iowa Poll shows Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt) only 7 points behind Hillary Clinton in the race for the Iowa caucus, a worrying sign for the Democratic frontrunner. Clinton leads with 37 percent of likely Democratic caucus goers, with Sanders following at 30 percent.

But the news gets even worse for Hillary Clinton as we find her support is cratering:

Clinton has lost a third of her support since May, the poll found. This is also the first time Clinton has fallen below the 50 percent mark in a Des Moines Register/Bloomberg Politics Iowa Poll this year. “It looks like what people call the era of inevitability is over,” said J. Ann Selzer, president of Selzer & Co., which conducted the poll.

This poll also includes Joe Biden so it looks as if most of his support might be siphoning votes from Hillary Clinton; if he decides not to run it will be interesting to see if these votes go back to the former Secretary of State or if she is so damaged at this point that they jump over to the Sanders camp.

It does not surprise me that Ben Carson is gaining ground over the others. He is not taking cheap shots and is a man of character and integrity. He is leaving the game playing to the others. While I like him, he is not qualified to run a country based on what he has done in the past. I think he would be good in HHS or the Surgeon General area of the next Administration, but I just do not see him in the Presidency. The Donald, while he has some crude tendencies, knows how to get stuff done AND keep others in their place, both qualities I admire in him. Yes he is arrogant, but maybe he has earned that right, unlike what is in the Presidential position at the moment. We could do worse and if the past is any basis for that statement, we will probably get what we are NOT asking for….more ESTABLISHMENT crap! I do know that I do not want a Sanders or a Clinton to be in my White House come the next election! I guess we will all have to make a few sacrifices in our list of “wants” for our perfect candidate, I just do not think that person is out there….

I think you nailed it Lou! I like Carson but is he qualified to be President, I doubt it but then again could he do any worse than what we have right now?
The perfect candidate is not out there and I guess he or she never will be but they are all better than either Sanders or Hillary!
Your White House? Don’t you understand that house no longer belongs to the people but rather the ruling class? 😉

No Steve, it is STILL the peoples house. “She” has withstood alot more damage to her than the Obamas can inflict. They are but peons with visions of grandeur! We will have to do some house cleaning at the end of this term, but she will stand again proud to be OUR HOUSE!

Managing to hold off Carly from the next debate was a setup by that rascal Preibus and CNN. The establishment candidates would surely have a better shot at being in the top ten based on old polling.Pox on the GOP house and tells us all we need to know about the GOP.

We have known this for a long time, Bunker! It is pretty bad when they eat their own. I guess if they cannot get an establishment candidate in, then they do not care if the other party wins. This just is so screwed up. One would think that this race would be very important to them, but we see the games being played, as usual….nothing changes and they just will not grow up!

Of course they don’t consider Trump, Carson, or Fiorina to be one of their own because they are not one of the ruling class establishment elite. It is almost as if they would rather lose the election that to have an outsider who shares (what they claim) are their values but of course they only care about staying in power and protecting themselves.

That about sums it up, Steve. How foolish is that?

It is very foolish; you think they would have learned after conservatives stayed home in 2008 and 2012 but they are making the same mistakes again and it is so bleeping frustrating!

Fox News screwed her out of the last debate as well. She was polling sixth and they bumped her so they could get local boy Kacich on the stage even though he was polling behind her. They are doing their best to keep the anti-establishment candidates quiet. It won’t work in Trump’s case and in fact it looks like it might backfire.

We are fighting a double fight, if you will. Not only do we have to fight liberalism, but we have to fight our own party. I am about finished being called a Republican, there are only a handful that I would identify with as it is. They have to know that they are the ones that are taking us down and STILL they do it. That makes them pretty STUPID in my book and you know what I think of stupid people. Any one of us could and would do a better job in Congress than 80% of these fools or tools, if it fits!

Damn it is frustrating. It is hard enough dealing with this fight on one front but we have to deal with it on two fronts!
