The State Department to turn over nearly 1,000 previously undisclosed Hillary Clinton emails

 Yesterday the Associated Press reported that despite Hillary Clinton’s sworn statement she did not in fact turn over all of her work related emails and today The Daily Beast is reporting the State Department has found “a handful” of Benghazi-related emails it “mistakenly” failed to turn over to the committee investigating Benghazi.

  The State Department will hand these emails over to the committee as part of a batch of nearly 1,000 previously unreleased emails related to Libya from Hillary Clinton’s personal email system.

“Following our second review of former Secretary Clinton’s emails… the Department is producing a small number of emails relating to Benghazi,” the official said. The official could not say precisely how many Benghazi-related Clinton emails the State Department missed in its original review, but characterized it as a “handful.”

The State Department informed the House Select Committee on Benghazi on Friday that it would deliver to them approximately 925 new Hillary Clinton emails relating to Benghazi and Libya, among them a small number of Benghazi-related emails that it had missed.

 These 925 new emails fall into three broad categories:

1. Benghazi-related emails that the State Department missed in its original review;

2. Hillary Clinton emails related to Libya which the State Department assessed not to be directly related to Benghazi. This makes up the vast majority of the 925 emails being released;

3. Benghazi-related emails that the State Department had previously assessed to be of a “personal nature and unrelated to the former Secretary’s official capacity.”

  The first and third categories are the ones I am most interested in but particularly the third; how is it possible for the State Department to mistake a Benghazi-related email for a personal email? That does not pass the common sense test.

  The State Department is making the claim that by releasing emails above and beyond (the second category emails) what is necessary for the investigation it shows the department is trying to cooperate with the committee. Call my cynical but I do not believe for one minute that is why the State Department is going to release these additional emails.

  I think the State Department knows it faces a public relations nightmare if it were to release a handful of Benghazi-related emails the committee has been requesting for years at such a late date in time so this is an attempt to bury the lede to create a more favorable version of this story.
