Republican debate open thread

January 14, 2016

I have to be perfectly honest with you here; I am not going to watch the debate tonight because I have better things to do. Namely, The Blacklist is on and I will be watching to see what happens to Lizzy, Red Reddington, the shadow government and the Cabal.

But here is an open thread so if you would like to comment on the debate as it happens this is the place to do so. If anything interesting happens I will read about it tomorrow.

Yeah Steve let’s talk more ‘reality’ … The Blacklist!

Yeah, we probably saw something closer to the truth last night with The Blacklist!

Plus, the fact that when one of the bad guys get caught, he’s on his own. You could tell by Red’s expression about ‘dropping him down in time for dinner’ wasn’t being caught by the director (his puffed up pride blinded him from the reality of the day – similar to the political meat market).

That’s right, they always abandon their own when it comes time to save themselves. The director’s arrogance is what did him in, he thought he was untouchable but when push came to shove he was expendable!

Love this program….James Spader gets better looking as he ages! Now, why would I say that? Of course I also think Sean Connery and of course SAM ELLIOT are aging wonderfully, as well.

Yep, it’s as though that part was ‘written’ for him Lou. No one else could do it as fittingly! He’s got the voice, manner and look.

Yes, James Spader is the perfect actor to play this part. As for Sam Elliot and James Spader’s looks, they are not quite my cup of tea if you catch my drift. 🙂

Hey Swiss. Good clip. Interesting though that a guy’s singing the tune and not a female – today in this society that’s bent on creating whores and homos it’s nice to see a man be a man (Red) and a women be glad because of it! A virtuous women … who can find one in this new age? http://thekingsbible.com/BibleText.aspx?bibleid=20031010
Esp. when that higher QUALITY is being portrayed as ‘out of date’ and old fashion, primitive. It’s easier to let the carnal out than have dominion over it.

The Blacklist does, I think, play some neat music. It’s a quality show. I didn’t think about the song right off – ‘oh that’s nice’ – then started thinking, ‘shouldn’t a female be singing that?’

I love the music in the show as well, the song should be song by a woman but I still found it to be catchy. Perhaps they are indoctrinating me! I won’t let them get me! 😉

Yes Swiss, just another way to bring down a country, just like what happened to God’s formed Israel – they started worshipping the pagan gods, turning away from God, and ended up naked, dancing and debased. Men & women without God aren’t men & women.

There are a very few singers today that have the classic feel to them, but on the whole not. It is like cheap perfume, they all smell alike, no matter what one you spray….so, I stick with the tried and true classic scents…stuck in my ways, I guess, Peter and that is sometimes NOT a bad thing.

I gave it a ten; it had a good beat and you could dance to it. Actually other than Roger Ailes bitch Neil Cavuto failing at trying to play devil’s advocate the debate wasn’t bad. This fat little teletubby should take a long walk off a short pier and give up his one man act at portraying a tele- journalist financial expert. Next to the real deal, Marie Bartiromo, he was the drooling Pancho to her Cisco.

OT: I have mentioned before my dislike of clowns, but have I mentioned that I am not a big fan of porcelain dolls that have human hair and movable eyes and TEETH? Maybe I saw “Chuckie” one too many times or another movie that the name escapes me that had a shit load of those dolls in it, but I do NOT like them!
My husband brought home a doll from his Moms house that sat on her headboard (I was told it was from his grandmothers house), his sisters wanted nothing to do with her and she came home with him in a plastic bag….she was in my livingroom until I opened the bag…..she is NOW out in the garage and has to get thru 2 doors with alarm sensors on them if SHE wants to get in the house. I mentioned it to my sister-in-law and she said we will “take care of her” when she comes by….whatever do you think that means?

it wasn’t a debate, it was a love fest. The “debate” as it were was more about defining the Republican 2016 platform and the makeup of the next GOP administration.

Jeb Bush, who knows he won’t win, was the most engaged and animated I’ve seen him in any debate. He impressed me with his statements about Hilary and the need for Republicans to act together after the convention.

Trump and Cruz are setting up to do a Bush/Cheney act. Chris Christy can’t decide if he wants to be Secretary of Defense or Attorney General. Kasich and Rubio are also lining up for slots in the next admin.

Dr. Carson continues to be a quiet and considered moral center. It would be important to find a good place for him as well.

Dr. J., it doesn’t surprise me that Jeb is now being more animated. Do you think maybe he really did not want the Presidency and now he can take a breath and maybe do something else? For some reason, I have wondered if he had not just been pushed to do it and how could he back away from it since he is a BUSH? Just a thought. I do not know what to think about Trump and Cruz, maybe they are sparing back and forth for entertainment…I could see the 2 on the same ticket. Not a fan of Christy and really not a fan of Kasich AT ALL! Rubio is young, but intelligent. Carson has good morals and there should be a place for him in the Administration. I would also like to see Rubio put somewhere, but not crazy about him because of his stance on immigration or rather illegal-immigration.
You did a GOOD job on your analysis, thanks for sharing it! At least I did not have to watch the debate!

Thank you, Lou. I have never been able to understand why so many pundits do not see the obvious. This last debate wasn’t a debate except in the strictest sense. Except for Trump and Cruz, it was obvious that no one else believed they had a shot at the nomination and behaved accordingly.

It was refreshing to see people like Jeb Bush actually speak from their heart and not the political script.

Trump and Cruz engaged in what I’ll call a bromance, complete with some modest sniping, but nothing mean, no real zingers.

We’ve got a real election coming, complete with some very good players. The Liberals are clueless, so it’s up to us to make it happen.

I hope people see it as you do! Yes, there are some good players and we are in the fight for our Country, I hope others understand that, as well.
As for Bush, I think he is resigned to the fact that he is NOT in a position to win and maybe now can say what he wants and not what his handlers want him to say. I would really hate to be told what to say and do all the time. Guess that is what I like about Trump, he doesn’t weigh the odds as to if something that will come out of his mouth is politically correct or not…he goes with the flow and the chips fall where the may…I like that in a person!
        Oh, and you are welcome!

I think it boils down to 2 or 3, at best….I think too, that the others are going to want to be in the Administration, so the “name calling” is probably going to stop and they are going to start trying to get along. There are alot of them that should have bowed out a long time ago…not even sure why there WAS a second group of candidates for a debate….their numbers were so very low. It was a waste of time. I think there should be a percentage that if they go under, they are automatically taken out of the race…would be simpler that way.

Yes Lou, at some point the name-calling has to stop because the losers will have to endorse the winner and if they go out of their way to tear down the eventual winner it will make their endorsement seem disingenuous and hypocritical.

One thing though, Cruz gave a very poor and inaccurate response on the issue of his qualification as a “natural born citizen”.

I spent a while looking it up. The real issue is that the Federal law on the point says that if you’re born abroad, your parents are married and either one is a citizen, then you are an American citizen by birth.

It does NOT specify whether you are “natural” born or not, it just says that you are born an American citizen. The original language of the Constitution specifies that if you’re born in the U.S., you’re a “natural” born citizen, but it’s not directly addressed in either the 14th Amendment or the Federal statutes.

A common sense reading of the Constitution, Amendments and applicable Federal law would make him a “natural born” citizen, but that might not be technically accurate.

The law can also be interpreted to have 3 classes of citizen: 1) Natural Born Citizen; 2) Born Citizen; 3) Naturalized Citizen, with the only difference being that only a natural born citizen can be President or VP.
