Donald Trump on Obamacare: ‘I like the mandate’
Having just watched the video which I am posting below I think it is time to dive into Donald Trump’s convoluted logic in regards to Obamacare.
In the past Donald Trump has seemingly said that he supported a single-payer (read government) healthcare system but we will let that go for the sake of this post, I just wanted to point out that he did not always say what he is saying now.
Donald Trump, on more than one occasion, has blamed Ted Cruz for giving us Obamacare despite the fact the law passed without a single Republican vote. He justifies this claim by stating that Ted Cruz was a big supporter of Chief Justice John Roberts during his confirmation hearing while ignoring the fact that the Senator from Texas was not even in the Senate at the time of John Roberts’ confirmation.
Okay, Ted Cruz was not in the Senate and had no role in confirming John Roberts, I guess we have to let that one go as well. But let us pretend that Ted Cruz did play a major role in confirming John Roberts. Donald Trump validates this claim by reminding us that twice John Roberts had the opportunity to strike down Obamacare yet confirmed it with his decisions.
The first of those now infamous decisions was in regard to the Obamacare mandate when John Roberts sided with the majority by allowing the mandate to stand as a tax even while the Obama regime was arguing it was not a tax. Nobody will depute that the mandate is at the heart of conservative opposition to the Obamacare law.
But while Donald Trump is blaming Ted Cruz for John Roberts’ decision on the mandate by supporting him in his confirmation hearing, just a couple of days ago the billionaire businessman admitted that he likes the mandate. Here is the video I promised at the beginning of this post:
So Donald Trump is blaming Ted Cruz for John Roberts’ decision on the mandate and for upholding Obamacare on one hand while at the same time he agrees with the decision on the other hand. Am I missing something here or is Donald Trump talking out of both sides of his mouth?
malo periculosam libertatem quam quietum servitium
Bi-Polar or some other chemically induced mind-alternating influence? I hear it stated that the last real President we had was JFK. Would people today even be able to relate to him… or him with today’s current ‘mind-set’? Trump already stated he ‘can change’. Why’s it always against America instead of FOR the BEST OF AMERICA! (meaning the people as a whole!).

I just think he will say whatever it takes to win. I also think it is driven by narcissism and a need to have attention.

Trump has some views that should be modified however, it will never be so. The issue rightfully needed to be addressed by Congress when BHO started the mess.

That’s a good point Rifleman, Trump acts as if he will be able to do whatever he wants when he is President. He will have to remember he needs the Congress and not rely on EOs.

This is another issue which the media loves to get Republican candidates chasing their tail. Nothing Trump, Cruz et al say will change the publics belief in a single payer system. This health care issue has been screwed up forever. Unfortunately big government progressives have won the rhetoric debate. The Republicans will never be able to reeducate the publc on this issue. By way way of example what moron thinks auto insurance should give you new tires, brakes and oil changes?
Health insurance companies operated what amounted to a giant ponzi scheme. Large employers were willing to pay these companies millions for a product that was poorly understood by their employees and made healthy employees subsidize unhealthy employees.

I think you are right and I think Obamacare was designed to lead to single-payer and I also believe it is never going to be repealed. Talk of repeal makes for a good campaign topic but it will never happen.
