FEC Democrats tried to punish Fox News for debate sponsorship in a secret vote
We are beginning to see the left attempt to move to criminalize the opposition: Last week the Democratic Platform Committee released the final draft of the Party platform and in it was a plank to investigate and prosecute so-called climate deniers. This is not final yet as it has to be voted on at the convention but I have a feeling it will pass. And now we are learning that the FEC held a secret vote on punishing Fox News for adding the under card debate before the first Republican debate. The three Democrats on the FEC all voted to punish Fox News but it was blocked by the three Republicans in the agency
Here is more:
Finally making good on long-harbored anger at conservative media, Democrats on the Federal Election Commission voted in secret to punish Fox News’ sponsorship of a Republican presidential debate, using an obscure law to charge the network with helping those on stage.
It is the first time in history that members of the FEC voted to punish a media outlet’s debate sponsorship, and it follows several years of Democratic threats against conservative media and websites like the Drudge Report.
At issue was the Aug. 6, 2015 Fox presidential debate. Initially, the network planned to host one debate featuring 10 candidates. But as the date got close and the nearly two dozen GOP presidential candidates were close in the polls, Fox added a second debate that included seven other candidates.
A complaint was filed with the FEC alleging that Fox News’ editorial decision to expand the debate from one debate to two debates, and to include 7 candidates in the undercard debate, constituted an illegal corporate contribution by Fox News to the candidates who participated in the debate.
Ironically it was a Republican candidate who did not make the cut for either debate who filed the complaint but one has to wonder why no Republican filed a complaint with CNN for doing the same thing!
And speaking of a network helping candidates on a debate stage: shouldn’t CNN, or Candy Crowley, or both, have been punished for helping Barack Obama in a debate against Mitt Romney when said moderator lied about what the President said in the aftermath of Benghazi when the Republican hopeful had him on the ropes? Was that not more of an illegal campaign contribution than this was? It certainly helped Barack Obama out of a tight situation when Mitt Romney was on the verge of putting him away. Just saying…
