Red State Democrats talk tough to Chuck Schumer over Brett Kavanaugh
The full court press is on to stop Brett Kavanaugh from becoming a Supreme Court justice, so much so in fact that Rod Rosenstein is looking for nearly 300 Federal prosecutors to scour all the documents related to Donald Trump’s nominee.
For his part, Chuck Schumer has vowed to oppose Brett Kavanaugh with every fiber of his being, calling on the Democrats to be united in opposition and hoping to sway a couple of Republicans over to his side.
So far we have not heard a single Republican come out against Brett Kavanaugh–but that could change–however we are hearing from a few red-state Democrats that they are not going to let Chuck Schumer push them around. Here is more:
Manchin suggested to Politico that Schumer does not have any influence over whether or not he supports Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination.
“I’ll be 71 years old in August, you’re going to whip me? Kiss my you know what,” Manchin told Politico, referring to whipping votes among the party caucus.
“My decision won’t have anything to do with Chuck Schumer,” Sen. Joe Donnelly (D-Ind.) told Politico. Donnelly, in addition to Manchin and Sen. Heidi Heitkamp (D-N.D.) all voted in support of Neil Gorsuch.
Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) told Politico that Schumer “knows better” than to try to pressure her to vote a certain way.
“He doesn’t come to me and say: ‘You’ve got to vote with us on this.’ He knows I’ll tell him to take a flyin’ leap,” she said. “I’m going to do what I think is right. It has nothing to do with the party.”
That is some pretty tough talk from Joe Manchin and Claire McCaskill, and they did vote to confirm Neil Gorsuch, but we will see what happens when the time comes. While they did vote for Neil Gorsuch the balance of the Supreme Court was not an issue whereas this time it could be. In light of this I would expect the Democratic leadership to fight even harder this time to keep its members in line and we will see if the crack.
malo periculosam libertatem quam quietum servitium
Those if ya in the NY/NJ metro area will never forgive or forget how firmer NY senator Al D’ Amato-R a perennial shoo in virtually gave his seat away to Chuckie Cheese Schumer. Senator Al publicly acted like a goofy schoolboy as he giddily ran around with his new girlfriend and made an ass if himself in the NY press and media. Schumer had no trouble picking him off like shooting fish in a barrel. That’s a simplistic ivervuew of how we ended up with what we have today….if anyone is interested.

Thanks, I don’t remember that. It almost sounds like he didn’t care if he won or not.

Exactly. That’s how I remember it, not unlike Bush I laying down in 1992.

It will be interesting to see how this pans out. I might add a correction- each of these attorneys was to cough up three attorneys.. thus close to 300 criminal prosecutors will be turned loose going over every document from Ken Starr..Lewinsky- White water– Florida re-count and and his position with Bush…..

I for one am tired of all these dog and pony shows.
Can we have a simple voice vote? All those in favor of Kavanaugh say Aye.
Those objecting to Kavanaugh sound like religious bigots. Schumer, Feinstein, Bluemthal, and Sanders all oppose Kavanaugh but are OK with RBG, Sotomyor and Kagan and the destruction of western culture.

CJ, Ya gotta cut these irrationally anti-american Trump hating wealthy elitist socialist pigs some slack. After all they’re only doing what their electorate sent them to Washington DC to do.

Unfortunately you are right, they keep getting sent back to Washington so they must be doing what their constituents want.

I agree! It is time to stop fooling around with all these show trials. These people have all the info they need on Kavanaugh and they have for some time, this is all about show at this time.

No more “tax payers funds” be used for their ‘games’! Let them pay attorneys and such out of their piggy banks and see how that comes to a “shrieking halt!”
