Donald Trump proposes DACA in return for border wall funding

January 19, 2019

The President made his “major” announcement today and it turned out to be a confirmation of reports we have been hearing over the last couple of weeks. Donald Trump is prepared to extend DACA and TPS in return for funding for the border wall. As I have written in the past but will repeat here, this is probably the best chance at getting the border wall passed in the Congress and does show a willingness to compromise on the part of the President.

However Democrats, who apparently do not know the meaning of the word “compromise”, have already rejected the idea. Democrats claim to care about the DREAMers but this will be the second time they have rejected an effort by Donald Trump to extend the DACA program, and that is because the Democrats have put a higher value on trying to hurt the President politically so they can benefit politically. In the end all they really care about is using the people they pretend to care about as political pawns in their own quest for power.

I was expecting something more “major” of an announcement than simply a reaffirmation of a bargaining position we already knew he held, but this could simply be his last ditch effort to solve the problem using the Congress before he declares a national emergency in order to go it alone.

Now that the Democrats have rejected a public appeal to make a trade off on immigration I think he will most likely use this to say he did everything he could do to get this done through legislation and now he is forced to use his pen and his phone even though he did not want to.

And just for the record I am still vehemently opposed to declaring a national emergency to build the border wall and I am fearful of the precedent this will set going forward.

I don’t know why this wasn’t done prior to the fall election.Even prior to January. Even if it hadn’t passed, which it wouldn’t have, we would have had the Dems on record in the House and Senate. Pelosi will never let it come to a vote now.. Ryan Pelosi the same – RIno and Dem working together.

I think you are right about Ryan and Pelosi working together because it is the only thing that make sense to explain why we have waited until this point.
