Mueller team rebukes Buzzfeed story that Trump told Cohen to lie to the Russia investigation

    The Democrats were all abuzz yesterday when the–ahem–news broke that Donald Trump instructed Michael Cohen to lie to Robert Mueller about meetings he had about building a Trump tower in Moscow.

  Social media was set aglow with calls for the immediate resignation or the impeachment of the President by Democratic voters, and needless to say many elected Democrats jumped on the bandwagon because they thought they had the smoking gun they had been lusting after for so long now.

  But during their euphoria they forgot one important thing, this was a Buzzfeed article and therefor unreliable and  late yesterday a member of Robert Mueller’s team came out and rebuked the story. (Of course they did let the story hang out there for several hours…)

Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s office on Friday issued an extraordinary statement disputing a bombshell news report that claimed President Trump directed Michael Cohento lie about the timing of discussions over a proposed Trump Tower project in Moscow.

“BuzzFeed’s description of specific statements to the Special Counsel’s Office, and characterization of documents and testimony obtained by this office, regarding Michael Cohen’s Congressional testimony are not accurate,” Peter Carr, a spokesman for Mueller’s office, said.

    Buzzfeed is standing by the story and that is not surprising because ever since the days when Mitt Romney was running for President people have become guilty until proven innocent. Or to paraphrase Harry Reid back then, they made the accusations so it is up to the accused to prove them wrong.

  But think about just how remarkable it is for the Special Counsel to release a statement on a news story, it simply has not happened before, and so it is hard to believe they would make a statement about this bogus story only to show it was right when the investigation is finally over.

  It looks like the Democrats will have to wait for the next so-called smoking gun to appear because apparently this one was fake news. So until then, settle down Beavis…
