Today Dianne Feinstein had a stern message for Vladimir Putin in the wake of the downed Malaysian passenger plane. Here is what she had to say:
“The issue is: where is Putin? I would say, Putin, you have to man up. You should talk to the world. You should say this was a mistake, if it was a mistake.”
I find her usage of the phrase ‘man up’ to be interesting because it seems to be sexist, according to Wiktionary the term means “to be a man about it”; to do the things a good man is traditionally expected to do, such as: taking responsibility for the consequences of one’s actions; displaying bravery or toughness in the face of adversity; providing for one’s family, etc.”
In today’s politically correct America that seems like a sexist comment to me, especially considering the movement in many states–including California–to use more gender-neutral expressions; after all can not a woman also take responsibility for her actions, display bravery or toughness in the face of adversity, and provide for her family?
Open thread for Sunday, July 20th: All My Colours
Here is the open thread for Sunday, July 20th; please feel free to post links to interesting articles and to discuss whatever issues arise during the course of the day. Nothing is off-topic here.
As usual you can follow America’s Watchtower on Facebook and Twitter by clicking the links on the right. I often post links to articles I probably will not be writing about so it is a great way to keep up with what is going on in the world. You can also subscribe to receive email updates and if you do you will never miss a post again.
In case you have not noticed I have replaced the old Twitter widget with a new, fully interactive Twitter widget. This widget updates my tweets in near real time and allows you to respond to or retweet my tweets right from the blog. Is also allows you to tweet me right from America’s Watchtower. How cool is that! If you do not have a Twitter account what better reason do you need to sign up for one!?
Please check out what the New Federalist Party has been up to by clicking on the link to the right. On the NFP Facebook page you will find a link to the party platform. Check it out and if you like what you see we are currently looking for donations and delegates to the states for the convention.
This week’s musical selection is Echo and the Bunnymen performing ‘All my Colors’ from sometime in the 1980’s.
Enjoy:
The White House has been downplaying the spike in whole families who are crossing the border in recent weeks
Barack Obama and other leaders in the Democratic party have been trying to gain sympathy with the American people over the manufactured border crisis by highlighting the spike in unaccompanied children who have been crossing the border in recent weeks.
It is true the number of unaccompanied children crossing the border has doubled in the least year, but if you listen to the propaganda of the left you would think only unaccompanied children are crossing the border and that is simply not true.
While the number of unaccompanied children has doubled, according to a new Border Patrol report the number of whole family units which have broken into the country during the same time period has actually increased five-fold. Roughly the same amount of families have crossed the border as unaccompanied children.
It was only a matter of time before somebody desperately tried to link the Tea Party to the downed Malaysian airliner. Of course even the most radical leftist could not blame the Tea Party directly for this and still have any credibility left whatsoever. But what they could do–and we actually talked about this at work–is link them indirectly by comparing the mentality of the people who shot the plane out of the air to the mentality of the people in the Tea Party.
And yesterday that is exactly what Josh Marshall of ‘Talking Points Memo’ did. Here is what he had to say:
Bunkerville’s post today on the downed commercial airliner, seemingly at the hands of Russia, reminded me about the ridicule Mitt Romney took during the 2012 campaign when he claimed Russia was America’s number one geopolitical threat. You can check that post out here.
Here is a short video which shows major Democratic party leaders and the mainstream media ridiculing and mocking Mitt Romney for his supposedly outdated comment about Russia:
I find it quite interesting that Mitt Romney seems to have had a better grasp of world affairs at that time than the President, the Vice-President, two former Secretaries of State, as well as the current Secretary of State. I do not find it surprising in the least that Mitt Romney had a better understanding of what was happening in the world than the mainstream media however, they had their agenda, they pushed it, and it worked.
Perhaps somebody should have listened…
You read the headline; before you read any further what do you think could possibly make bedfellows (sorry for the mental image) of Hillary Clinton, the Republican establishment, and big business?
Why the Tea Party of course!
The establishment Republicans have been in an all out war with the Tea Party in order to hold onto their precious power and perceived nobility. John Boehner has been punishing conservatives who fail to kowtow to his will by removing them from influential committee positions, while Karl Rove has created a group called the Conservative Victory Project–which would be more aptly named the Republican Incumbent Protection Project–in an attempt to protect establishment Republicans from Tea Party challenges.
Some illegal immigrant children are being placed in unsafe homes because the government is not performing background checks
Those who defend the relocating of illegal immigrant children into United States homes do so on the grounds of protecting the children and reuniting the families, so much so that they are willing to overlook the potential risk of spreading diseases which have been eradicated in the United States. It has been reported that many of these children are being flown across the country who have not been properly screened for diseases.
Okay, for the sake of this post let us stipulate that the Federal government has the best interests of the children at heart and are only doing what they think is best to solve this humanitarian crisis. Potentially infecting American citizens is only collateral damage during this crisis.
If this is the case why then is the government, according to this story, potentially putting thousands of children at risk by not performing background checks on the people who are gaining custody to these children?
The Department of Justice claims it learned about Lois Lerner’s “lost” emails through news reports
The Department of Injustice has been investigating the IRS targeting scandal for about one year and yesterday we learned this investigation would include the circumstances surrounding Lois Lerner’s conveniently lost emails.
I have been suspicious of this investigation since it was learned that the person heading the investigation just happened to be a donor to Barack Obama’s presidential campaigns in 2008 and 2012, but Eric Holder found no conflict of interest here.
Every time a new scandal emerges within the Obama regime the president claims he only learned about the scandal when he saw it reported on the news and today the Department of Injustice apparently took a page out of Barack Obama’s playbook when James Cole testified that the department only learned about Lois Lerner’s lost emails when they heard about it on the news.
Illegal Immigrant children are being flown across the country without being properly screened for diseases
The manufactured crisis at the border has become so bad, according to this report, that illegal immigrant children are being flown across the country to be placed in detention centers without first having properly been checked for diseases.
Back in May a poll was released which showed carpetbagger Scott Brown trailing a should-be vulnerable Jeanne Shaheen by 12 percentage points–47-35.
Now a new poll is out and it shows the former Massachusetts Senator has closed the gap by a few points. Scott Brown now trails Jeanne Shaheen by a margin of 8 points at 50-42 percent.
So the race is tightening a bit as the election draws closer and this poll will likely give Scott Brown some ammo to use against his primary opponents. (He still does face a primary election, even though it appears to be a foregone conclusion.)
If the gap continues to close, even slightly, as the primary draws closer Scott Brown will be able to use it as proof that he is the one who has the best chance at beating Jeanne Shaheen. In fact that is what I expect him to say about this latest poll.
Not that it really matters though, here is how the primary poll looks:
Brown held a commanding lead in the GOP primary breakdown, winning the support of 61 percent of 556 likely Republican primary voters surveyed, compared to 16 percent for former U.S. Sen. Bob Smith and 10 percent for former state Sen. Jim Rubens.
It sure is good to have the establishment behind you…
