Arizona bomber was denied a green card by Homeland Security for “terrorist related activity” before the attack

December 9, 2012

This is a story which hasn’t received much coverage in the mainstream media because people like George Stephanopoulos and Brian Ross couldn’t make a lame attempt on pinning it on the Tea Party like they did in the Colorado theater shooting so instead the media decided to ignore the story almost completely, but last week there was a terrorist attack on a Social Security office in Arizona.

I could almost guarantee you then when it was learned a bomb went off outside a government building the media immediately tried to tie the attack to a disgruntled Tea Party person who was making a statement after the November election, but once it was learned the attack was carried out by an Iraqi refugee named Abdullatif Aldosary they quickly moved on to another story.

New details are starting to emerge and we now know that Abdullatif Aldosary actually approached Arizona Representative Paul Gosar in 2011 about getting a green card. Paul Gosar forwarded the request to immigration authorities but the Department of Homeland Security denied Aldosary’s request because: Read more…

Open thread for Sunday, December 9th: Aces High edition

December 9, 2012

Here is the open thread for Sunday, December 9th; feel free to post links to interesting articles as well as discussing whatever issues might arise during the course of the day. Nothing is off topic here.

Just a quick note before I get to the musical selection of the day; I wrote a new post yesterday but because it was in the queue before my Pearl Harbor Day post it ended up posting below the Pearl Harbor Day post so unless you subscribe for email updates you may have missed it. Check it out to see how Obamacare might just cause your veterinary bills to rise.

We are two days removed from the anniversary of Pearl Harbor so for today’s musical selection I have chosen a video which includes scenes from the movie ‘Pearl Harbor’ set to the song ‘Aces High’ by Iron Maiden. The song is actually about the Battle of Britain but I think it works in this video as well.

  Enjoy:

Pearl Harbor Day: A date which will live in infamy

December 7, 2012

My apologies for posting this so late today, it has been a busy week but that is a sorry excuse for not getting this up in time.

When Americans went to bed on December 6th, 1941 America was at peace. (Although America was secretly helping the British against Germany the citizenry was unaware.) But when Americans woke up on Sunday, December 7th they learned that war was inevitable because early in the morning Imperial Japan conducted a sneak attack on Pearl Harbor which left 2,400 dead. The wars in the Pacific and Europe became WWII and America was called upon to free the world of tyranny. It was a call which was answered by the greatest generation–a generation which is sadly almost gone.

We must never forget what happened that day and we must never let out guard down again.

Obamacare: Veterinarian bills may rise as a result of healthcare reform

December 7, 2012

When Obamacare was passed there was a provision in the bill which called for a medical device tax to help fund the legislation which was set to begin–conveniently–after the 2012 election, but the problem was that there was no definition released on what Obamacare considered a medical device and that is because there were no guidelines. The guidelines were to be written by the IRS at a later date–which also just happened to be after the election.

Last Friday the IRS finally released the long awaited medical device rules and we now are beginning to see a list of what medical devices will be taxed. Included in that list is rubber gloves and catheters. But that isn’t all:

A Fairfax County, Va. veterinarian who did not wish to be named told The Daily Caller that the category could also include “syringes, tubes, blood centrifuges, sterilizing autoclaves, microscopes — and even things like surgical lights, exam tables and x-ray machines.”

You may have noticed that the quote above was given by a veterinarian, but what does Obamacare have to do with veterinarians? Why is a veterinarian chiming in about Obamacare?

Under the new rules set forth by the IRS (and having the IRS in charge of this is scary enough) medical devices which are used only by veterinarians are exempt from the Obamacare medical device tax, however there are many medical devices which serve a dual purpose and they are subject to the tax. This means that veterinarians are subjected to the medical device tax in many cases and of course that means that pet owners can expect their veterinarian bills to rise as a result of this dreadful law. And I thought Obamacare was supposed to lower the costs of healthcare…..

Elections have consequences and now we are going to have to live with those consequences. This is only the beginning, so much for only raising taxes on the rich…..

Benghazi: Barack Obama knew United States weapons fell into the hands of Islamic extremists in Libya months before the attack

December 6, 2012

Some of the rumors floating around the internet about the terrorist attack in Benghazi and the ensuing cover up was the possibility that the Obama regime was covering up the fact that the weapons used to kill Chris Stevens, Sean Smith, Glen Doherty, and Tyrone Woods were either weapons recovered by the United States in the aftermath of Gaddafi’s overthrow which were then being smuggled through Turkey and into Syria to help the rebellion in that country, or the weapons used in the attack were weapons which were captured in Libya by Islamists and remained unaccounted for.

At this point we still do not know if these rumors are true but the New York Times (yes, the New York Times) is now reporting that the Obama regime was in fact secretly supplying weapons to Qatar which would then send the weapons to help support the Libyan rebels. The Obama regime also learned in the Spring of 2011 that Qatar was diverting some of the weapons meant for the Libyan rebels to Islamic militants in Libya. Read more…

Mitch McConnell offered to hold a vote on Barack Obama’s fiscal cliff proposal but Harry Reid blocked it

December 5, 2012

I promised myself and my readers that I was not going to cover the fiscal cliff debate because I am frankly tired of having to go through this every few months, neither side is really serious about this issue, but something happened today which I found interesting so I am going to spend just a few short minutes to write about it.

Earlier today Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell offered an amendment to the Russian trade bill which would have given the Senate the chance to vote on Barack Obama’s fiscal cliff proposal:

Last week [Treasury] Secretary [Timothy] Geithner brought up a proposal that was so unserious,” McConnell said on the floor, “I would like to see if my Democratic friends would like to support it

As my regular readers might already know, I am opposed to any amendments which are added to legislation which is irrelevant to the original legislation, as this is, but this happens all the time and it is done by both parties when they want to pass legislation which would never pass when voted on by itself so I found Harry Reid’s reaction to this proposal, which would give Barack Obama everything he wanted, to be quite interesting indeed. Harry Reid blocked it.

The purpose of this bill is to protect American jobs,” Reid said. “Are we going to get serious here and legislate or is this more of the political stunts that the Republican leader is going to pull today?

Harry Reid is right about one thing, this is a political stunt, but suddenly he is opposed to amendments which have nothing to do with the original legislation? If he had always held this view the 100 watt light bulb wouldn’t have been banned.

So the question is, why wouldn’t Harry Reid allow the Democrats to vote on a proposal issued from the president? I think this leads credence to the theory that not only are the Democrats willing to go over the fiscal cliff but they want to.

Did John Boehner threaten to punish more conservatives?

December 5, 2012

After losing every battle with Barack Obama and the Democrats, and after being out-maneuvered at every turn since he became the Speaker of the House two years ago, John Boehner has turned his attention to a new foe–conservative Republicans.

I wrote a post yesterday about John Boehner’s decision to strip four conservative Republicans of their committee positions and those conservatives are claiming it was because they were unwilling to go along to get along with the Republican establishment political class. John Boehner claims there were a number of factors that went into this decision but retribution was not one of them, however we learned that the Republican leadership has a secret criteria it used to make this decision and it involves a vote tally. Harry Reid says he sympathizes with John Boehner

December 4, 2012

Earlier today Harry Reid stated that he sympathized with John Boehner for having to deal with fiscal conservatives in the House. This is what he had to say:

I sympathize with John Boehner,” Reid said. “The tea party has a firm grip on the Republican Party. … This vocal minority contingent exerts tremendous influence over him and Republicans in the House and in the Senate.

And with John Boehner’s move yesterday to strip fiscally conservative Republicans from committee positions it appears that he and Harry Reid are on the same page. They have the same enemy and he is us.

John Boehner strips conservative Republicans from committee positions

December 4, 2012

What do you do when you are a member of the establishment, elitist, political class Republicans who feel it is your birthright to remain in Washington and you watch a bunch of new conservatives come to power within the party and try to change the culture in Washington? Why, you punish them and hope to teach them a lesson of course. That lesson being you must go along to get along.

And that is precisely what John Boehner appears to have done when he removed conservative Republicans from committee positions. It goes without saying that this isn’t sitting well with the affected conservatives who do believe they are being punished for trying to change Washington and influence the establishment Republican leaders: Read more…

Obamacare: Barack Obama has already raised taxes on the rich, the IRS releases 159 pages of new tax laws

December 3, 2012

Barack Obama ran on the promise of taxing the rich and forcing them to pay what he considers to be their fair share, ignoring the fact that tax revenue on the rich actually increased with the Bush tax cuts, and the American people bought into it by rewarding Barack Obama with a second term.

But while telling the American people that the rich had to pay more he ignored the fact that Obamacare did actually raise taxes on the rich already and those tax increases will go into effect next year; the IRS has just released 159 pages of new tax laws to deal with Obamacare taxes on the rich:

The Internal Revenue Service has released new rules for investment income taxes on capital gains and dividends earned by high-income individuals that passed Congress as part of the 2010 healthcare reform law.

The 3.8 percent surtax on investment income, meant to help pay for healthcare, goes into effect in 2013. It is the first surtax to be applied to capital gains and dividend income.

The tax affects only individuals with more than $200,000 in modified adjusted gross income (MAGI), and married couples filing jointly with more than $250,000 of MAGI.

The tax applies to a broad range of investment securities ranging from stocks and bonds to commodity securities and specialized derivatives.

Barack Obama and the Democrats have already increased the tax burden on the rich, although you don’t hear them touting this, and yet they still want more because they never think they have enough. The question has to be asked, what does Barack Obama think constitutes a fair share? Perhaps it would be easier if the government simply confiscated all Americans’ checks and then just redistributed the money as they saw fit.
