Why didn’t Barack Obama mention Fort Hood during the Sandy Hook vigil?
Last night Barack Obama took to the airwaves during the Sandy Hook vigil and although he didn’t come right out and say it he made the argument for the new gun control regulations he had hoped to gain support for when he implemented Fast and Furious.
During this speech he mentioned that since he has been president there have been four massacres–Tucson, Aurora, Oak Creek, and Newtown–and he even brought up Columbine and Blacksburg to strengthen his case.
But the truth is there hasn’t been four massacres since he assumed the position he currently holds, there has been five, but for some reason he didn’t see fit to mention the Fort Hood massacre during his Sandy Hook speech.
Why is that? Most of us know why, but if you don’t know why Mark Levin has the answer for you and he even manages to tie in the hypocrisy of an assault weapons ban on Americans after Barack Obama was selling AK-47s to drug lords:

Houston Democrat Chair tweets about shooting NRA members and supporters
With the tragic shooting at Sandy Hill Elementary School in Connecticut last Friday has come reinvigorated talk of gun control and a new ban on assault weapons. This is not surprising and was expected, hell, Democrat Representative Jerrold Nadler even called upon Barack Obama to “exploit” this senseless shooting. It is interesting that so soon after the tragedy his thoughts turned to “exploiting” this for political reasons rather than towards those who were affected by the shooting.
And we all know that Barack Obama subscribes to Rahm Emanuel’s mantra of never letting a good crisis go to waste because it allows you to pass legislation which would otherwise not have support, so while it isn’t surprising this is going to be used as a springboard for new gun regulations it is surprising that a politician would admit the need to “exploit” the deaths of children to push his political agenda.
We are now hearing talk about how it is time to have an adult conversation about gun control and if we are going to have that talk I say that is fine with me. We gun nuts will engage in a conversation and explain our views and all we ask in return is to be treated fairly by those who oppose us.
But if Houston Democrat Chairperson Jason Cobarruvias is any indication there will be no adult conversation and we will not be treated fairly because he would rather just shoot the people who disagree with him on the issue of guns, over the weekend he tweeted “Can we now shoot the #NRA and everyone who defends them?“
His response to the violence in Connecticut is to incite violence against those with whom he disagrees and he doesn’t seem to see the hypocrisy in this statement. Emotions are running high right now and the last thing we need is an elected official talking about shooting anyone yet that is precisely what he has done. Is this what Jason Cobarruvias considers to be legitimate debate?
This is what we gun nuts are up against and quite frankly, this is why we don’t trust those who support more gun regulations–this is just the beginning and it won’t stop with a ban on assault weapons of high capacity magazines.
What is more to blame for the Connecticut school shooting, guns or socioeconomic breakdown?
First, let me express my deepest sympathy and heartfelt grief to the families and the loved ones of all those who were killed in the terrible shooting at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut last Friday.
When trying to comprehend something as evil as what happened in Connecticut the first raw, visceral reaction is to blame the implement used to cause the destruction rather than the individual responsible for the action and predictably that is what we are seeing in this case. So if we are not going to blame the individual for his actions in cases like this, let us take a look at some of the things which may have contributed to the mindset which drives people to commit such heinous crimes. (This post is meant to be a general look at people who have committed this type of crime and not at Adam Lanza himself or this particular crime because we still don’t have enough details about this case to discern what led him to commit such a horrific act.)

I am going to have a very busy weekend so I thought I would post the open thread on Saturday instead of Sunday this week. Please feel free to post links to interesting articles and to discuss whatever issues may arise during the day, although there is probably only one issue on people’s minds today.
I would like to offer my totally inadequate but heartfelt sympathy and condolences to all the family members and friends of those who died in the tragic shooting in Connecticut yesterday, it is truly incomprehensible to me that such evil could exist in the world. There is nothing that any of us can say to ease the pain of those who are suffering today but I offer Nick Cave’s version of a Bob Dylan song entitled ‘Death is Not the End,’ it may not be much consolation at this point but I don’t know what else to say. We all share in their grief even though we can’t possibly understand what these people are going through.

Benghazi: The State Department is hiding terrorist attack survivors from the Congress
Much of the coverage of the Benghazi terrorist attack throughout the blogosphere has been centered around the four Americans–Chris Stevens, Sean Smith, Glen Doherty, and Tyrone Woods–who were killed in the in the deadly attack on the anniversary of September 11th and the cover up which insued, and rightfully so, but not much attention has been paid to those Americans who were injured but survived the attack.
The fact is that it would be hard to write about the injured people because we don’t know anything about them and that is exactly how the Obama regime wants it.
According to this story, Republican Representative Jason Chaffetz has been trying to get information about the people injured in the Benghazi terrorist attack but the State Department has been unwilling to provide any details whatsoever about the injured people and won’t even disclose how many there are.
“My understanding is that we still have some people in the hospital. I’d like to visit with them and wish them nothing but the best but the State Department has seen it unfit for me to know who those people are—or even how many there are,” Rep. Chaffetz said. I don’t know who they are. I don’t know where they live. I don’t know what state they’re from. I don’t even know how many there are. It doesn’t seem right to me.
“This is so patently different than any other experience I’ve had. Unfortunately, people have been killed and maimed and in harm’s way in Afghanistan and Iraq and in points beyond. It’s typically been the case that they would release those names but in this case, they won’t. My challenge is to the media. You try and figure it out. They won’t let Congress know. They won’t seem to let the media know either.”
I find it very interesting that these eye witnesses to the attack are being hidden from the Congress and it makes you wonder what these people know happened that day that the Obama regime would rather the rest of the country–and the Congress–doesn’t learn about.

Democrat Senator employed an illegal alien sex offender, DHS delayed arrest until after the election
Earlier today a former intern who worked for Democrat Senator Robert Menendez was arrested for being in the United States illegally; the intern, Luis Abrahan Sanchez Zavaleta, has the added bonus of being a registered sex offender.
Senator Menendez claims that he didn’t know Mister Zavaleta was in the country illegally and claims he fired Zavaleta once he found out.
We certainly wouldn’t have known through any background checks since he is a minor about any sex o ffender status,” Menendez said in an interview Wednesday with MSNBC. “Once it came to our attention, our New Jersey staff director let the young man go.
I would like to give him the benefit of the doubt and give him a free pass on this but then I remember what happened to a California Republican, Meg Whitman, when she was running for governor of the state against Jerry Brown in 2010 when it was learned she had an illegal alien housekeeper.
Meg Whitman also claimed that she let Nicky Diaz Santillan go once she found out about her housekeeper’s immigration status but what did she get for employing an illegal alien? She did not get the benefit of the doubt, instead she got pilloried by the Democrats because it was shortly before the election, while Nicky Diaz Santillan got free legal representation from frequent White House visitor Gloria Allred to help insure that Meg Whitman would lose the election.
It became an election issue, so if Senator Menendez found out about his intern’s immigration status before the election and let him go as he has claimed why wasn’t this also an election issue?
When Obamacare was being constructed the Democrats made sure that provisions in the legislation which they felt would be popular with the American people would be implemented before the 2012 election, while the provisions which would not be popular would be delayed until after the election, and to be honest it seems to have worked according to plan for the Democrats.
One of the provisions which was delayed until after the election was the medical device tax. In addition to delaying the medical device tax until after the election the Democrats, in their infinite wisdom, also delayed defining which medical devices would be taxed. And as I reported in this post there are some complications with this provision which might actually cause veterinary bills on average American pet owners to increase.
But the complications go well beyond pet owners paying more for getting Fido his rabies shots because 18 Democrats have signed a letter which was sent to Harry Reid asking the Senate to delay implementation of the medical device tax citing, of all things, the fiscal cliff negotiations.
In this letter these Democrats state that while the medical device industry is profitable and is creating jobs that implementing this tax would hurt the industry to the point where companies may be driven overseas. The last line of the letter states, “we look forward to working with you on this critical issue that will benefit patients, innovators and boost our country’s economic growth.”
But I am confused; I thought we needed to raise taxes to increase revenue and grow the economy? Isn’t that Barack Obama’s plan? Here we have some Democrats admitting that if taxes are raised on this one industry that it might entice companies in that industry to leave the United States; if this is the case isn’t this proof that the Democrats’ plan to raise taxes on all people (and small businesses) making over $250,000 is also going to hurt the economy and possibly drive jobs in other affected industries overseas or force the small businesses to just fold up shop altogether?
Federal court rules Illinois concealed carry ban is unconstitutional
Illinois was the only state in the union with a statewide ban on concealed carry but that changed today when the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals overturned a lower court’s ruling and declared the outright ban of concealed carry is unconstitutional.
The decision was stayed for 180 days to allow the state legislature to rewrite its gun laws. Here is what the court had to say,while siting the Supreme Court’s decision in District of Columbia v Heller:
We are disinclined to engage in another round of historical analysis to determine whether eighteenth-century America understood the Second Amendment to include a right to bear guns outside the home,” Judge Richard Posner wrote in the court’s majority opinion.
“The Supreme Court has decided that the amendment confers a right to bear arms for self-defense, which is as important outside the home as inside. The theoretical and empirical evidence (which overall is inconclusive) is consistent with concluding that a right to carry firearms in public may promote self-defense,” he continued.
“Illinois had to provide us with more than merely a rational basis for believing that its uniquely sweeping ban is justified by an increase in public safety. It has failed to meet this burden,” Posner wrote.
The Supreme Court’s interpretation of the Second Amendment therefore compels us to reverse the decisions in the two cases before us and remand them to their respective district courts for the entry of declarations of unconstitutionality and permanent injunctions
Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan has decided to wait until the new laws are written before deciding what action to take next, if any, so it seems likely she won’t challenge the concealed carry decision itself. In light of the Supreme Court decision in Heller, which was a ruling on Washington DC’s handgun ban, it seems highly unlikely the Supreme Court as currently constituted would overturn this decision and Attorney General Madigan probably realizes this.
Today we won one and it feels good for a change!

In Bill Whittle’s latest Afterburner video entitled “Unserious People” he goes on a bipartisan rant about how silly it is to expect the same unserious people in Washington DC who got us into this fiscal crisis to get us out of it.

Bill Whittle points out that if our taxes were used only for the powers enumerated in the constitution that we all would be paying a lower tax rate, but it the government was totally shut down and our taxes only went to pay for entitlements our tax rates would have to remain the same.

After September 11th George Bush famously stated to other nations that they are either with us or they are against us and that is precisely how I feel about the Republican elitist, establishment, political ruling class today. They are either with us or they are against us.
We learned that House Speaker John Boehner used a secret criteria list to purge the most fiscally conservative Republicans from their committee positions last week and then threatened to punish more conservatives if they did not blindly toe the establishment party line, and now it is being reported that it was House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy who actually drafted the criteria list and presented it to the GOP Steering Committee.
