Agency claims ‘fact checking error’ to blame for Obama’s bio which states he was born in Kenya
Miriam Goderich is taking the blame for a 1991 literary agency bio which stated that Barack Obama was born in Kenya, claiming this was the result of a fact checking error and nothing more. Here is part of what she had to say in explaining this very interesting developement:
You’re undoubtedly aware of the brouhaha stirred up by Breitbart about the erroneous statement in a client list Acton & Dystel published in 1991 (for circulation within the publishing industry only) that Barack Obama was born in Kenya. This was nothing more than a fact checking error by me — an agency assistant at the time
It was a fact checking error that lasted for 16 years and at least four updates. As Barack Obama’s career progressed the bio was updated, but the language about his Kenyan birth remained and one has to wonder why this error wasn’t caught until just after Barack Obama announced his candidacy for president.
The timing seems suspect indeed. An error of this magnitude was never caught until Barack Obama was running for president and then somebody finally updated the bio and removed the offensive language after 16 years and multiple revisions? It certainly seems as if somebody knew about this “fact checking error” based on how quickly it was removed once Obama was running for president. Could it have been Barack Obama himself?
That is something that Miriam Goderich denies:
There was never any information given to us by Obama in any of his correspondence or other communications suggesting in any way that he was born in Kenya and not Hawaii
However, that is contradicted by this story which states that Acton & Dystel actually asked all their clients to write their own bios. According to the story the client would submit his or her own bio, it would be edited by the agency and sent back to the client for final approval. If this is true the fact checker in question would be Barack Obama himself and that would go a long way in explaining how it came to be that the “error” was “caught” so quickly after Barack Obama decided to run for president. The error was no error at all, but an embellishment which was used by Barack Obama until he realized it would be a hinderance to his goal of becoming president of the United States. It is either that or Barack Obama was really born in Kenya and knew he had to hide that fact once he began his presidential bid.
Elizabeth Warren contributed five recipes in a Native-American cookbook entitled “Pow Wow Chow” which was released in 1984. In this book she referred to herself as a Cherokee. (And I thought she wasn’t using her “heritage for personal gain.) My first thought when I read this story was that I didn’t know crab was considered a staple of Native-American cooking, because two of the recipes were for crab. It appeared to me as if her recipes were as authentically Native-American as she claims to be.
It turns out that the least of Elizabeth Warren’s concerns about these recipes is whether or not they are considered authentic Native-American cuisine because they may not even be authentic Elizabeth Warren recipes. It is now being reported that Elizabeth Warren may have in fact plagiarized at least three of these recipes.
The two recipes, “Cold Omelets with Crab Meat” and “Crab with Tomato Mayonnaise Dressing,” appear in an article titled “Cold Omelets with Crab Meat,” written by Pierre Franey of the New York Times News Service that was published in the August 22, 1979 edition of the Virgin Islands Daily News, a copy of which can be seen here.
Ms. Warren’s 1984 recipe for Crab with Tomato Mayonnaise Dressing is a word-for-word copy of Mr. Franey’s 1979 recipe.
Mrs. Warren’s 1984 recipe for Cold Omelets with Crab Meat contains all four of the ingredients listed in Mr. Franey’s 1979 recipe in the exact same portion but lists five additional ingredients. More significantly, her instructions are virtually a word for word copy of Mr. Franey’s instructions from this 1979 article. Both instructions specify the use of a “seven inch Teflon pan
What about the third recipe in question?
The third potentially plagiarized recipe, “Herbed Tomatoes,” appears to be copied from this 1959 recipe from Better Homes and Garden
Not only has Elizabeth Warren lied about her heritage, but she may have also committed plagiarism based on the lie about her heritage. It is becoming more and more obvious that Elizabeth Warren is a liar and a fraud, and possibly a criminal, who does not deserve the trust of the voters of Massachusetts. If a person is willing to lie about who he or she is how can that person be trusted on any issue in the future? Elizabeth Warren is not deserving of the trust of the voters she seeks to gain. She should do herself, and the voters, a favor and drop out of this race right now before she embarrasses herself and the state she wishes to represent any more than she already has.
One of the concerns that many conservatives have had about Mitt Romney was that–for want of a better term–he lacks the balls to attack Barack Obama. We saw what happened in 2008 when John McCain refused to go after Barack Obama and we worried that Mitt Romney would be John McCain lite, and now it looks as if our concern has been justified.
When Newt Gingrich was still in the primary race and he called on Mitt Romney to condemn attack ads which a Romney Super PAC was running against him Mitt Romney stated he couldn’t do so because federal election law prohibited him from coordinating or communicating with Super PACs.
Fast forward to today: A Super PAC is planning on airing ads which will attack Barack Obama for his twenty year association with the America and Jew hating Reverend Jeremiah Wright, and Mitt Romney was quick to repudiate the efforts of this Super Pac:
I repudiate the effort by that PAC to promote an ad strategy of the nature they’ve described. I would like to see this campaign focus on the economy, on getting people back to work, on seeing rising incomes and growing prosperity — particularly for those in the middle class of America. And I think what we’ve seen so far from the Obama campaign is a campaign of character assassination. I hope that isn’t the course of this campaign. So in regards to that PAC, I repudiate what they’re thinking about … It’s interesting that we’re talking about some Republican PAC that wants to go after the president [on Wright]; I hope people also are looking at what he’s doing, and saying ‘why is he running an attack campaign? Why isn’t he talking about his record?’
This is precisely what Newt Gingrich asked Mitt Romney to do during the primary and yet Romney refused to do so based on federal election law, but suddenly he isn’t so worried about that law when a group decides to attack Barack Obama. This is precisely what conservatives were worried about–Mitt Romney was much more willing to attack fellow Republicans than he is to attack his main rival in Barack Obama because he fears the way he will be portrayed in the media and this is a recipe for defeat in November.
Here is a message for Mitt Romney: the media isn’t going to support you and the media isn’t going to like you no matter what you say or what you do, so if you are afraid you will get on the wrong side of the media think again because you already are simply because you associate yourself with the Republican party. Stop being so damned wishy-washy and go after this man with guns blazing–go big or go home. At least show us you are willing to fight as hard against Barack Obama as you were against Newt Gingrich, that would be a start.
I have been a little miffed at what I perceived as the recent silence of the Tea Party. As the Occupy Wall Street protesters grew louder it seemed to me as if the Tea Party had grown more silent. It was worrisome to me because it seemed as if the Tea Party had decided it was mission accomplished after the 2010 elections and had grown so proud of itself that it grew lazy and unengaged in the process.
But while listening to Rush Limbaugh at lunch last week he made a point that I hadn’t thought of before when he said the Tea Party wasn’t dead, it had simply morphed from a protest movement into a political movement. And I think he might just be right about this; the Tea Party has decided it can better effect change in the system by engaging in the system instead of merely protesting the system.
A perfect example of this is last Tuesday’s Senate primary in Nebraska where the Tea Party’s candidate, Deb Fischer, beat the more establishment candidates in what was declared a surprise victory. And the Tea Party’s influence is in fact more evidenced in the fact that the latest poll shows her with a large lead over the Democrat candidate, Bob Kerrey.
Deb Fischer is still a relatively unknown name whereas Bob Kerrey is well known within the state and yet she is leading Kerry by a margin of 56-38%. This is a very good sign indeed and it may tell us that the demise of the Tea Party has been greatly exaggerated. The Tea Party is alive and well and will make its presence known in November!
If this story is true things just got a whole hell of a lot more interesting in the world of politics. In 1991 Barack Obama’s agency published a booklet which included the bios of many clients including Barack Obama and this booklet was distributed to people in the publishing industry. Barack Obama’s bio describes him as “born in Kenya and raised in Indonesia and Hawaii.”
There are only three possible explanations for this: one; either it is true and Barack Obama was actually born in Kenya, two; there was an error in his bio and and Barack Obama was not aware of it, or three; Barack Obama lied about his Kenyan birth hoping to embellish his personal story in an attempt to gain more publicity for his upcoming book.
I don’t believe anyone can hire an agency to represent him and not have approved a bio that the agency had written to represent the client. Surely the agency would submit the bio to the client before it was published, therefore I think it is highly likely that Barack Obama was aware this agency publicized as fact that he was born in Kenya.
But the story doesn’t end there because as late as the year 2007 the agency updated Barack Obama’s bio to include his stint as Illinois Senator, but still left in the language about Obama’s Kenyan birth. Two months after Barack Obama announced his candidacy the language was finally removed from his bio because obviously someone knew this would be problematic to his presidential run.
So what is going on here? Was Barack Obama really born in Kenya, or for 16 years did Barack Obama’s bio contain an untruth about Barack Obama’s upbringing–an untruth which I believe he had to know about? These are questions that need to be answered because either Barack Obama is unqualified to be president or–much like Elizabeth Warren–he was lying for a decade and a half about who he really was.
This seems like a story that all media outlets would investigate moving forward, but unfortunately the media has other issue sthey feel are more important, like finding out if it is true that Mitt Romney once cut another boy’s hair against his will.
I have held the opinion for quite some time now that as goes Wisconsin, so goes the nation. The theory being this: Scott Walker of Wisconsin was elected on a campaign promise of bringing fiscal responsibility to the state. In just over one year he was not only able to balance the budget but also has the state running at a surplus. This has created a business atmosphere which has Wisconsin rising in the best/worst states business outlook. For his effort he is facing a recall election because some people (mostly unions) are upset at the tough choices he had to make to turn the state around. This recall effort–and its success or failure–will be a bell weather indicator heading into November. If Scott Walker is recalled it will show the nation that the people of America really aren’t ready to accept the tough decisions which will have to be made if we are going to stave off the impending collapse, but if Scott Walker survives it just might show us we still have a fighting chance at turning this around before we face a total collapse of our economic system. (I would argue that some on the left want the economic system to collapse, but that is an argument for another day.)
After last week’s primary in Wisconsin when the Democrats picked Scott Walker’s opponent the early returns look promising and offer us some hope. The latest polls show Scott Walker leading from anywhere between 5-10 percentage points, and now according this story an email sent by MoveOn.org admits the Democratic National Committee is no longer going to invest in the recall effort–for all intents and purposes they are pulling out of the recall effort. One can easily presume they see the writing is on the wall and they don’t want to be associated with a losing effort.
I honestly believe that June 5th will give us a very real indication of what is going to happen in November and this race deserves all the scrutiny it has received. This election will set the stage and the tone of the election; it will put one party on the offense and the other on defense and the party that wins this election will have the momentum moving forward.
It looks good at this point but with two weeks to go anything can happen, stay tuned…..
The blond haired, blue eyed, lily white carpetbagging senatorial hopeful from Oklahoma masquerading as a Massachusetts resident, Elizabeth Warren, has been on the defensive since it was learned she identified herself as a Native-American minority in law school directories for ten years. She claims she did so simply to meet people who were like her, hoping to attend luncheon with other Native-Americans and not to advance her career.
She never did attend any of the events held for Native-Americans even though this was the stated goal for her deception, but she did in fact advance her career. The woman who claims to be the intellectual foundation of the Occupy Wall Street movement would have us believe she did not even consider the fact that law schools look to this directory when they are attempting to fill racial quotas when she decided to list herself as a minority.
Yesterday I wrote this post about Barack Obama’s latest anti-Romney, anti-Bain attack ad which was less than truthful about Mitt Romney’s roll as the head of Bain in the failure of GST Steel. The ad claimed that Mitt Romney played a very influential role in the policies which led to GST Steel going out of business, but at the time of the plant’s closure Mitt Romney had already departed Bain two years prior to the closing. On top of that it turns out that Jonathan Lavine, a major Obama bundler, was actually on the Board of Directors when the plant was forced to shut down.
Today on CNN, of all places, Ashleigh Banfield took the Press Secretary for Obama 2012, Ben LaBolt, to task for the misleading nature of the ad. When CNN takes a liberal such as Barack Obama to task for something it is truly newsworthy. Oh, how the mighty one has fallen.

The Obama campaign released a blistering new ad earlier today entitled “Steel” and in this ad Mitt Romney is lambasted for draining all the money out of GST Steel as he could before closing the steel plant down. Here is part of what one man in the ad had to say about Bain Capital:
They made as much money off it as they could and they closed it down, they filed for bankruptcy, without any concern for the families or the communities,” says Joe Soptic, a former steelworker. “It was like watching an old friend bleed to death
It is always heartbreaking when people lose their jobs and I am not downplaying this aspect of the story, but there is one small problem with the assertion made in the ad that Mitt Romney played an influential role in Bain Capital’s decision to close the company down–Mitt Romney left Bain Capital a full two years before the company was forced to close.
The ad is deceptive at best and disingenuous at worst as it tries to tie the GST closing to Mitt Romney knowing that most people won’t realize Romney was no longer associated with Bain Capital. But there was one man still on the Board of Directors of Bain Capital which the ad failed to mention. His name is Jonathan Lavine and he still has a prominent position with Bain Capital, and he just happens to be a major bundler for Barack Obama. Funny how he wasn’t mentioned in this ad, isn’t it?
