CNN poll finds Americans equally split on Obama vs Bush
According to this recent CNN poll the country is evenly divided on which president has done a better job in his tenure in the White House–Barack Obama or President Bush. In this poll Barack Obama leads President Bush by a margin of 47-45 percent.
Why does this matter if President Bush is gone and is not in this race? It matters because President Bush is in this race. President Bush has remained in politics even in his retirement; he has been kept in the public eye by Democrats who are constantly reminding us that everything is his fault.
McDonald’s receives healthcare coverage waiver
The Department of Health and Human Services has granted McDonald’s and other multibillion dollar companies a special waiver that will grant them an exemption from providing increased healthcare benefits to their workers.
Under the guidelines passed in the healthcare reform bill, McDonald’s “mini-med” program did not meet the minimum requirements set in the new law. McDonald’s had threatened to drop healthcare coverage altogether if they were not exempted–preferring to pay the government a fine rather than increase their coverage, because the fine would be cheaper.
This means that some of the largest companies–the same companies that the Obama regime said should be paying for healthcare benefits for their employees because they could afford to–are now the companies that are being exempted from the healthcare reform bill. This seems to be at odds with some of the stated goals of the healthcare reform bill.
Companies such as McDonald’s were the ones used by the Obama regime as examples of companies who were not providing their employees with adequate insurance and now they are being exempted from providing that insurance in what is obviously a political move; the regime did not want the bad publicity of companies dropping healthcare insurance before the midterm election, so they are now granting them the okay to provide less than adequate–in the Obama regime’s eye–insurance because of the Obama regime’s promise that nobody would lose their current insurance.
So while large companies are now being exempted, the ordinary American who does not have healthcare insurance because he or she cannot afford it will still be mandated to buy the insurance they cannot afford; if they do not buy coverage they will be forced to pay the same penalty that these large companies were just provided relief from. There are no exemptions being granted to ordinary Americans, only to the large corporations.
Don’t get me wrong, I am not complaining about big businesses not doing their fair share–I don’t think the government has any right to tell private corporations what benefits they have to offer their employees–I am simply trying to show that while the Obama regime has been critical of these companies in the past, they are now willing to bend over backwards and help these companies keep in place the policies which which I thought the Obama regime disagreed with.
This just highlights yet another flaw in the healthcare reform law and we are only beginning to see it phased in. Nancy Pelosi said the Congress had to pass the bill before we could see what is in it and so far what we have seen is that this is a seriously flawed piece of legislation.
A granite state of mind: I’m going home
Well, I have been far from my home for the last two weeks doing a field install in Missouri for the company I work for, but tomorrow I will be boarding a plane and heading home.
I managed to keep blogging while I was on the road but I have to admit that it was tough; my head wasn’t in it because my heart was elsewhere. Leaving my family behind for such an extended period of time was not easy to say the least, but finally tomorrow we will be together once again. Everything will be as it should.
The next time that I post it will be from the friendly confines of my home.

There has been some speculation that the Democrats intend to use the lame duck session of the Congress to push through some of Barack Obama’s more contentious legislative items still on the table. I wrote about the Congress adjourning early this session in order to purposely leave some of these issues on the table for the lame duck session for this very reason here.
While that still might be part of the plan, this article contends that Barack Obama wants the lame duck session of the Congress to focus on confirming his judicial nominations. Many of these nominees are just a little bit controversial, to say the least, and probably wouldn’t pass the confirmation process before the election as politicians look to position themselves for re-election. But after the election–when politicians who are defeated feel they have nothing else to lose, combined with the liberals who manage to hold onto their seats and feel emboldened–all bets are off. In a sign of how desperate Barack Obama and the Democrats have become–even before the mid-term election–it is now being reported that there is a possibility Barack Obama will continue to shake up his staff when he runs for re-election in 2012 by replacing Joe Biden on the ticket with Hillary Clinton.
When asked during an interview whether there is a possibility that Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden might switch cabinet positions for the 2012 election Bob Woodward said, “it’s on the table.” This would appear to suggest that this scenario has been talked about at some point within the Obama regime.
And Bob Woodward is not alone:
Sharron Angle leads Harry Reid in the latest poll (10/05/10)
When Sharron Angle defeated Sue Lowden in the Nevada Republican primary the Democrat pundits and the media immediately began proclaiming that the happiest person in Nevada was Harry Reid because he got an opponent he could easily handle in the general election.
Sharron Angle’s–as well as Christine O’Donnell’s victory in Delaware–victory in Nevada was widely publicized as proof that the Tea Party was going to either hurt the Republican party in the general election, or even split the Republican party. Either scenario–we were told–would help to ensure the Democrat candidates would be re-elected.
Somebody must have forgotten to tell Sharron Angle that she was not supposed to win. (Which reminds me of a line from Rocky–He doesn’t know it’s a damn show! He thinks it’s a damn fight!)
Today Elena Kagan recused herself from 25 of the first 51 cases that will appear before the Supreme Court this session.
Much was made by Republicans during her confirmation hearing as to whether she would recuse herself from any case brought to the Supreme Court which challenged the healthcare reform law. While she did not directly answer that question, she stated that she would recuse herself from any case in which she provided counsel to the president.
Today she made good on that promise and while we still do not know if she will recuse herself from any healthcare reform challenges; and while we still do not know whether or not she provided council to Barack Obama regarding the healthcare reform legislation, the fact that she has recused herself from nearly half of this session’s Supreme Court cases brings an interesting twist to the cases being heard by the Supreme Court.
Former White House visitor is target of FBI terror probe
“The U.S. and Israel will continue to describe Hamas, Hezbollah and the other Palestinian and Lebanese resistance organizations as ‘terrorists,’ but the real terrorists are the governments and military forces of the U.S. and Israel,” Abudayyeh said. “The vast majority of the world sees and understands this, and are in full support of Lebanese, Palestinian and worldwide resistance to Israel and the U.S.’s naked aggression, war, imperialism and occupation
Those words were spoken by Hatem (I didn’t make that name up) Abudayyeh, a man described as an Arab activist who belongs to an organization called the Arab-American Action Network. The official goals of this Chicago based group are to work on local community issues and immigration reform.
But in 2003, the AAAN sponsored a dinner for Rashid Khalidi–a former spokesman for the PLO–a dinner that Barack Obama just happened to speak at–and according to reports the anti-Israel theme was quite heavy. It seems that there might be more to this group than meets the eye.
Last April Hatem Abudayyeh visited the White House as part of Barack Obama’s Muslim outreach effort and last week the FBI raided his house.
Rahm Emanuel resigns from the Obama administration
What had been rumored for months is now finally official–Rahm Emanuel is resigning as Barack Obama’s chief of staff. The reason given by Rahm Emanuel is that he covets the open position of mayor of Chicago and intends to run.
However, the rumors of Rahm Emanuel’s departure started long before it was learned that Mayor Daley had decided to call it quits, so unless Rahm Emanuel knew something that not even Mayor Daley did, or he forced Mayor Daley out, this seems to be a convenient excuse for Rahm Emanuel to jump ship which would allow Barack Obama to save face.
Latest New Hampshire poll (09/30/10) is good news for Republicans
The latest New Hampshire poll is out and it is very good news for New Hampshire Republicans.
According to this poll, Republican senate candidate Kelly Ayotte is ahead of Democrat Paul Hodes by 15% at 50-35. This is great news indeed! When Paul Hodes was in the House he was nothing but a rubber stamp for Nancy Pelosi–voting with her over 94% of the time. But now that he is running for the seat being vacated by the retiring Judd Gregg he has been trying to claim that he was an independent vote for New Hampshire and a fiscal conservative even though he voted for all of the spending bills that have been signed into law by Barack Obama. It is absolutely laughable that he can look at the camera with a straight face and tell the New Hampshire voters that he is not responsible for any of the outrageous spending during Barack Obama’s reign when he voted for it. New Hampshire voters see through this and I have to believe this is why he is falling in the polls.
The same poll shows good news for Republicans in both House races as well. In the first district–my district–Frank Guinta leads incumbent Democrat Carol Shea-Porter by 10% at 49-39. Everything that I wrote above about Paul Hodes is applicable to Carol Shea-Porter as well–there is a reason why Paul Hodes and Carol Shea-Porter have been dubbed the Pelosi twins.
And in the second district House race Republican Charlie Bass leads Democrat Ann McLane Kuster by 5% at 43-38. I haven’t followed this race as close as I should be because it is not in my district, but I do know this; Ann Kuster is probably to the left of Paul Hodes (who left this seat to run for the senate) because she believes that the stimulus bill and the healthcare reform bill did not go far enough.
All in all this is good news for the state of New Hampshire; people are tiring of the irresponsible spending in Washington and they are ready for a real change. With just a few weeks to go before the election things are beginning to look very good for New Hampshire Republicans.
