New Hampshire Governor John Lynch signs new parole law: child molesters and violent criminals first to be released early
New Hampshire Governor, John Lynch, may have finally pushed the envelope a little too far earlier this year when he signed into law a new parole law that lets convicted felons out of prison early so that the state could save a few million dollars–roughly seven million dollars a year.
A spokesman for the governor defended John Lynch’s signature on this bill, stating that letting felons out of jail would make New Hampshire a safer state:
This change is a good thing for New Hampshire because it’s going to make New Hampshire safer
The theory behind that asinine statement goes something like this: New Hampshire is safer because these inmates who are released early will be subjected to heavier supervision than they would have been if they had served their full term and walked away free.
Democrats drop Net Neutrality in the House
One of the more controversial bills in the eyes of many bloggers that the Congress was supposed to take up this term was Net Neutrality. But yesterday House Democrats shelved the idea–at least for the short term–handing Barack Obama yet another defeat heading into the mid-term elections.
Many people believe that Net Neutrality is a means for the federal government to get a foot in the backdoor in regards to regulating the internet, but for this post I want to focus on something that Henry Waxman said after this bill failed that I found interesting.
47 House Democrats oppose letting the Bush tax cuts expire
The media has been trying to claim that the Tea Party is splitting the Republican party apart and that the Tea Party might split the Republican vote thereby ensuring the re-election of some of the very people that they are protesting against.
While this might be true to an extent, I do not believe that it is as big a problem for many of the Republicans as the media–and the Democrats–hope it is. The Tea Party has managed to weed out some of the undesirables in the party and those Republican voters who do no necessarily associate themselves with the Tea Party will still head to the polls and pull the lever for the Tea Party candidate.
But while the left is trying its best to hype up this rift within the Republican party, they seem to be ignoring a growing rift between House Democrats and Barack Obama.
Barack Obama seeks to expand wiretapping to include the internet
During the 2008 presidential campaign–and actually for several years preceding the campaign–the Democrats made a huge issue out of President Bush’s policy of wiretapping outgoing calls to terrorist sponsoring countries.
During the campaign then candidate Barack Obama promised to end the Bush wiretapping policy, only to keep this policy in place once he won the presidency. The Obama regime even went as far as throwing out a lawsuit against President Bush’s wiretapping policy.
So much for the wiretapping policy being a violation of civil liberties; I guess it just depends which party is the one in power because there have been no Democrats that I can remember who have come out and demanded an end to Barack Obama’s wiretapping policy they way they did when it was President Bush running the show.
But now Barack Obama wants to actually expand President Bush’s wiretapping policy to include Blackberries, Facebook, and other peer to peer websites.
Under a plan that Barack Obama is looking to introduce to the Congress next year he will look for “sweeping new regulations of the Internet.”
Boehner blasts Democrats in Congress over prioritizing Stephen Colbert over tax cuts
Last week, for some reason that I still cannot fathom, the Democrats in the Congress thought that it was a good idea to bring Stephen Colbert in front of them to testify. He testified in character, mind you.
While our country faces many serious issues–the economy being the most important–our leaders in Washington decided that they had nothing better to do than to sit there and listen to a comedian make an ass of himself and a mockery of the system.
Yesterday John Boehner finally spoke out against this farce:
Washington is spending more time with comedians than debating (our) economic future,” Boehner said, referring to comedian Stephen Colbert’s mocking testimony of the House on Friday. “They have time to bring a comedian to Washington, D.C., but they don’t have time to end the uncertainty
He is 100% right about this. Democrats announced late last week that they just didn’t have enough time to debate extending the Bush tax cuts before the midterm elections. Between campaigning and listening to comedians testifying in the Congress I guess they had to sacrifice something–there are only so many hours in the day after all, so once again the American people lose out.
I have said many times in the past that Democrats just do not take the issues that are confronting many Americans serious enough, and when you see them pull of a stunt like this it should be obvious to everyone that Democrats simply have their priorities misplaced and are not working in the best interest of the American people.
John Kerry says uninformed voters are to blame for the Democrats’ problems
John Kerry recently said the reason that voters are turning on his party is because they just don’t pay enough attention and are not educated enough on the issues to know what is going on.
Okay, that is not exactly what he said, but reading these comments by John Kerry leave no doubt that that is what he meant.
We have an electorate that doesn’t always pay that much attention to what’s going on so people are influenced by a simple slogan rather than the facts or the truth or what’s happening
Actually after re-reading what he said, I don’t think I mischaracterized what he said in the least. Conservative blogger William Jacobson summed up John Kerry’s statement perfectly when he stated the following:
It just continues the Democrats’ theme that the reason people are upset is because they don’t understand. They’re not smart enough. That sort of rhetoric just gets people even more upset,
He is exactly right; there is a certain arrogance that is prevalent in the Democrat party and it is fully evident in John Kerry’s statement. As many of us have been saying for quite some time, the Democrats think that they are smarter than everyone else; they think that they know what is best for everyone else, and John Kerry’s statement is further proof of this position.
John Kerry’s statement is also further proof that he has a certain disdain for the average voter because he feels that they just don’t know what they are doing. And in a way I agree with him, how else can you explain the fact that the voters have returned him to the Senate so many times?
I’m leaving on a jet plane, don’t know when I’ll be back again
Before the sun comes up tomorrow I will be on my way to the airport, heading to Missouri to do a field installation for the company I work for. As of right now I am scheduled to fly out tomorrow at 8:00 in the morning and I am scheduled to fly home on Friday, October 8th. I will be gone for two weeks.
I picked up a netbook for myself so that I will be able to stay in touch with all of you in the blogosphere–a little bit of normalcy while living so far away from my family. I do not know how regularly I will be posting or visiting my favorite blogs over the next two weeks, but I do intend to try to post regularly–as well as visit my regular blogs– from my hotel room at night.
Those that know me know that I have a fear of flying–I have never flown before, this is my first time–but I have reconciled myself over the last six weeks to the fact that this was something that I could not avoid. Those that know me also know that the most important thing in my life is my family, I do not like to be away from them at all–my family is my life.
While I am nervous about flying, I have been able to prepare myself for it, but with all the mental preparation there is one aspect of this trip that I have not been able to accept yet. And that is the fact that I will be leaving my family for two weeks. As nervous as I am about flying tomorrow, I am even more upset at the fact that I will be leaving behind my wife and children boys (they are no longer children) and will not see them for the duration of this trip.
Flying may be something that I am not looking forward to, but I have reconciled myself to the reality of the flight, but still I can’t help but feel remorse that I will be leaving my loved ones behind.
It is odd, but as I prepare to leave my family for two weeks I can’t help but think of our troops and of the sacrifices they make for us. I am leaving for just two weeks and it breaks my heart, but so often our troops leave behind their families to fight for us and they are gone for a year. They leave behind their loved ones to fight for our country, not knowing what their future holds, so I feel a little selfish complaining about the fact that work has called me away for two weeks. My impending trip helps to drive home to me the point of how much our heroes sacrifice for us.
I love and admire those that have chosen to serve our country and as I prepare to leave my family I realize on a small level exactly what these people have to go through.
To all of our troops I say thank you for all that you do, and to my family I say thank you for always being there for me. I am sorry that I will not be there for you for a couple of weeks, but please know that you will still be in my heart and I love you all.

Former voting rights official: “dismissal of Black Panthers case is a travesty of justice”
Finally, we may be seeing a little semblance of sanity coming out of the justice department, as a former department official in the civil rights branch of the Department of Justice has called it a travesty that the department dismissed the charges of voter intimidation in Philadelphia by the New Black Panthers.
This was clearly a case of the New Black Panthers–equipped with billy clubs and shouting racial epitaphs–trying to intimidate white voters as they went to the polls in the 2008 presidential election. But for some reason Eric Holder’s Justice Department did not think that this case warranted an investigation and all charges that were brought against this group by the Bush administration were dropped.

New poll shows independent voters favor Republicans
A new poll by Pew Research shows that independent voters now favor Republicans by almost the same margin that they voted for Barack Obama in 2008 and for Democrats in general in the midterm elections of 2006.
This is very bad news for Barack Obama and the Democrats for the upcoming midterm elections this November. Barack Obama and the Democrats were swept into power on the backs of the independent voters. Without independent voters Barack Obama would not be president, and the fact that this very same voting block has turned against him so quickly has got to have Democrats not only worried about this election, but about the elections of 2012 and beyond.
Democrats delay vote on middle class tax cuts
Today the Democrats punted on taking up the issue of extending the Bush tax cuts on the middle class until after the midterm elections. If no action is taken before the end of the year ALL of the Bush tax cuts will expire including those tax cuts that are not on the rich. Contrary to the claims of the left over the last several years, the Bush tax cuts did not only give tax cuts to the rich, they gave tax cuts to everybody.
The Democrats wanted to win a victory before the midterm elections on the Bush tax cuts by passing legislation that would allow the Bush tax cuts expire on all those people who make over $250,000 while granting a temporary continuance of the Bush tax cuts on the middle class. With this revelation today there will be no action on the Bush tax cuts until after the election–if at all.
Both parties were quick to point the finger at each other for this failure.
