New Hampshire primary news: Senate race still too close to call
The New Hampshire primaries are over–sort of– so before I get to the main focus of this post let me congratulate John Stephen and Frank Guinta on their primary wins.
Frank Guinta manage to hold on despite a tough challenge from an unexpected source. It was thought that this was a two way race between Guinta and Mahoney with some polls showing Mahoney leading. It did turn into a two way race, but Mahoney conceded early as it became evident that Rich Ashooh was going to give Frank Guinta a run for his money. And he did, but at 1:00 this morning Rich Ashooh finally conceded the race to Guinta.
I believe that this surprise challenge was partly the results of the surging Ovide Lamontagne; I believe that many late breakers to Ovide probably also cast their votes for Rich Ashooh.
We have a great candidate in Frank Guinta and I look forward to watching defeat Carol Shea-Porter in November.
The race for the Republican nomination for governor certainly lacked the drama of CD1 as my candidate–John Stephen–cruised to an easy victory. The race was called for Stephen shortly after the results started flowing in.
John Stephen is probably the best Republican candidate that Governor Lynch has gone up against in his tenure as governor and it will be interesting to see if John Stephen can do what no other Republican has been able to do–beat John Lynch.
But speaking of drama, as of this morning the senate race between Kelly Ayotte and Ovide Lamontagne is too close to call. Less than 1,000 votes separate the two candidates, with Kelly Ayotte holding a slim lead.
When I first decided to endorse Ovide Lamontagne I did not think that he was going to have enough money to be a serious contender, but I believe that he is the most honest, conservative, straight forward talker in the race and that seems to have resonated with the voters of New Hampshire as can be seen by his surge in the polls over the last week. Now that he has come so close I can’t help but feel disappointed if he ends up losing this race.
When it looked as though this race was going to be between Kelly Ayotte and Bill Binnie I chose a favorite to root for if my candidate ended up losing, and that candidate was Kelly Ayotte. I just do not trust Bill Binnie and in the last week I think he was exposed.
Bill Binnie had been trying to hide the fact that he is pro-choice, he dodged this issue for several weeks before embracing his pro-choice beliefs in the debate last Thursday. Abortion is far down on the list of issues in my opinion, but how can a person expect people to vote for him if he is not willing to be up front and honest about where they stand on the issues?
When I listened to Bill Binnie’s concession speech it confirmed many of the fears I had about him; he is not the conservative he claimed to be. He talked about moving the party in a new direction; he talked about making the Republican party more of a big tent, tolerant party; he said he was still going to work to try to change the direction of the party. In other words, he wants to drag the party towards the center. We saw how that worked for John McCain, didn’t we? Thankfully he did not turn out to be a serious contender.
Whoever wins this race will get my endorsement over Paul Hodes in the general election. I would prefer that candidate to be Ovide Lamontagne, but I can accept Kelly Ayotte. Paul Hodes is a toe the line, Nancy Pelosi rubber stamp and he must be stopped at all costs.
It looks like this race could drag out for awhile as it is close enough for the loser to call for a recount. Stay tuned, this has been a strange and exciting night and early morning and it looks to continue for a little while longer.
Harry Reid to add DREAM Act to the defense bill
Democrats know that they do not have the votes in the Congress or the support with the American people to pass a comprehensive immigration reform bill. But that does not mean that they are not going to do whatever they can before the November election to pass the beginnings of the immigration reform legislation.
Today Harry Reid began that process by adding the DREAM Act to the defense funding bill. The official name of the DREAM Act is: Development, Relief and Education of Alien Minors Act. The DREAM Act was one of the most controversial aspects of the Bush/Kennedy/McCain amnesty bill that went down in flames in 2007 after the people of the United States rose as one to kill it.
I understand that this blog has become “Ovide-centric” in the last few days but you are going to have to bear with me as I take this opportunity to bring you the latest poll numbers as we head into the primary tomorrow.
There may be one reason above all that many of Kelly Ayotte’s supporters have decided to vote for her over any of the other candidates–electability. The Democrat who is vying to replace the retiring Judd Gregg–Paul Hodes–is a left wing, Nancy Pelosi rubber stamp. He votes with Nancy Pelosi well over 90% of the time and it is imperative that we do not allow him to become the junior senator of New Hampshire.
Are combat operations in Iraq really over? Our troops don’t think so
We all heard Barack Obama’s speech from the Oval Office on August 31st in which he declared the official end to United States combat operations in Iraq. He claimed that by ending the combat operations in Iraq he was fulfilling a campaign promise to end the war in Iraq.
So, is the Iraq war over just because Barack Obama has declared it is? Our troops don’t think so. As a matter of fact, many of our troops feel that by Barack Obama declaring an end to combat, their own service and sacrifices are being denigrated because they still face the very same dangers they did before Barack Obama declared the war over.
One soldier summed it up this way:

Last Friday I sent a text message to Boston talk radio host Howie Carr, asking him to please get Ovide Lamontagne on his show before the primary. It seems as if Howie Carr took my advice because today Ovide Lamontagne finally appeared on Howie Carr’s show. (Okay, I admit it, my text probably had nothing to do with Ovide’s appearance but I can dream, can’t I?)

Ovide Lamontagne sums it all up perfectly when he states, “our freedoms and our liberties, our Republic itself is at stake if we do not reverse course right now.”
On the eve of the primary, Ovide Lamontagne continues to surge–but is there enough time?
The New Hampshire Republican senate race has been a hotly contested battle with Kelly Ayotte and Jim Binnie exchanging blows in an attempt to fill the seat vacated by the retiring Judd Gregg. Tomorrow is primary day and at long last a winner will be declared.
But a funny thing has happened during the march towards primary day. Votes have started to be turned off by all of the negative campaigning of these two candidates and have begun to look elsewhere. Enter longshot conservative candidate Ovid Lamontagne into the picture.
As I have written many times in the past few weeks, Ovide Lamontagne is the one true conservative in the race, but lacking the funding of the other two frontrunners he had been unable to gain traction. That all changed early last week when polls began to show Ovide Lamontagne surging at the expense of Bill Binnie.
In one short week Ovide Lamontagne has risen from the ranks of the also rans and has actually pulled ahead of Bill Binnie in the polls. Early polls last week showed Ovide Lamontagne in second place trailing Kelly Ayotte by 12 points; over the weekend the surging Lamontagne closed the gap to within 10 points, and earlier this afternoon a poll came out that showed Ovide Lamontagne within striking distance of Kelly Ayotte–trailing by only 7 points. But the news has become even better for Ovide Lamontagne as a poll was just released that showed him trailing Kelly Ayotte by a mere 4 points–35%-31%. He is now within the margin of error.
At this stage in the game it still looks as of Kelly Ayotte is going to be able to hold on to win a close primary, but there are two factors that could propel Ovide Lamontagne to victory–independent, undecided voters, and voters who seek to find a more viable candidate to oppose Kelly Ayotte.
Let’s look at the second factor first.

We all know what September 11th means to all of us. For many of us it symbolizes the day America lost her innocence. While it is true that Americans have been called to fight many times before for just and noble causes all across the globe, for this generation of Americans who have had it so easy for so many years because of the sacrifices of earlier generations, September 11th was a wake up call. A call to arms which hadn’t been heard of in so many years.
But to those who are either serving in the military or who have a family member that is serving in the military, the sacrifice in the name of freedom that these people endure on a daily basis is a burden that is incomprehensible to those of us who enjoy the freedoms that these people guarantee us. While we may appreciate and admire the sacrifice made by these people we can never truly understand what they actually have to endure.
It is no secret that a vast majority of Americans are opposed to the healthcare legislation; all polls show that most Americans would support repealing this legislation. Many candidates are running on–among other things–repealing the healthcare reform legislation.
The odds of actually appealing the healthcare legislation are very long at best; there is virtually no chance of repealing this bill as it would take a veto proof majority in the Senate to override Barack Obama’s veto of the repeal. While Republicans are poised to gain seats in the House and in the Senate it is highly unlikely that they will win enough Senate seats to override Barack Obama’s veto.
Another option that we could hope for if Republicans gain control would be for the Congress to begin to pick apart the bill one item at a time and repeal it in small portions, but again, it seems highly unlikely that Republicans will have enough votes even to begin the neutering of the bill–and besides, this option would take much too long.
But there is still one option available to Republicans to stop the implementation of the healthcare reform legislation if they are able to make the gains in the Congress that are predicted.
Defunding.
We have heard so much from the Obama regime about how his cap and trade policy would open up the door to “green” technology. The Obama regime claimed over and over again that his cap and trade policy–which is now on the verge of being implemented by the EPA through dictate–would actually be a stimulant to the stagnant economy because of all the new job opportunities that would open up to Americans with an emphasis being placed on creating new alternative, renewable energy sources.
Barack Obama claimed that is was up to America to lead by example, claiming that, “we can’t drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times.”
He was claiming that as the most powerful nation in the world it was up to us to show the other nations that we were serious about fighting global warming. This speech was a challenge to Americans to sacrifice our liberties and freedoms for the greater good. According to Barack Obama we, as Americans, were supposed to lower our standards of living in order to prove to the world that we were going to tackle the contrived issue of global warming.
Again and again he has called on Americans to sacrifice in order to light the path and show the world the proper way to fight the menace of global warming.
Barack Obama recently had the opportunity to lead by example himself–he had a chance to show Americans that he would also sacrifice something for the common good–when he was offered the opportunity to install solar panels on the White House, but guess what?
Jim DeMint endorses Ovide Lamontagne in New Hampshire
As Ovide Lamontagne continues his apparent surge in the polls it seems as if people across the country are beginning to notice. On Friday night Ovide Lamontagne received the endorsement of Jim DeMint who stated that Ovide Lamontagne is “a proven conservative.”
