Senate votes to stop funding ACORN
The last week or two have not been kind to ACORN. With investigations into voter registration fraud that led to the arrests of eleven employees, (with even more to come with any luck,) and with at least three branches of ACORN in three different states being caught on tape helping a “pimp” to avoid taxes and set up an underage brothel things could not get much worse for this corrupt organization. But worse it has become.
First the census bureau decided to sever its ties with ACORN and will not allow the organization to try to influence congressional representation and now the senate has followed suit and voted to cut off ACORN’s funding.
The vote was a whopping 83-7 in favor of cutting ACORN’s funding. Finally justice is being served to this criminal organization. I can only hope that the recent events will spur continued investigations into ACORN’s activities, which have long been thought as being criminal. This organization has been getting away with too much for too long but it looks like the jig is up. It couldn’t have come a moment too soon.
House votes to rebuke Joe Wilson for his “you lie” outburst
Today the house voted, evidentially for the first time in history,to rebuke a representative when they voted to rebuke Joe Wilson for his outburst of “you lie” during the president’s speech in front of a joint session of congress.
Immediately following the president’s speech Joe Wilson called the president to apologize personally to him. He said that he got carried away in the moment, that he was wrong, and that he was sorry. This was enough for the president, he accepted Joe Wilson’s apology and was willing to move on claiming that “I’m a big believer that we all make mistakes,Wilson apologized quickly and without equivocation. I am appreciative of that.”
While Wilson’s apology satisfied the president house Democrats were not nearly as gracious or magnanimous as the president. And so today, instead of moving on as the president had urged, they instead voted to rebuke Joe Wilson. The issue should now be over. Democrats scored their victory on Joe Wilson but Wilson still scored a major victory in the process.
Joe Wilson showed that he was indeed sorry for his actions but his actions did have an effect on the healthcare reform bill. Barack Obama on Friday night issued a memorandum that stated language should be included in the healthcare reform bill that would insure that illegal aliens are not eligible for healthcare. Joe Wilson’s main bone of contention was that there was no language in the bill that specifically excluded illegal aliens from receiving healthcare on the taxpayers dime. Because of his outburst the president has now asked that such language be included.
If it took a representative being rebuked in order to have this language included in the bill than I would make that trade off any day. In the end both sides may have gotten what they wanted, the Democrats rebuked a breach of protocol towards President Obama, but Republicans got the language added to the bill that they had longed for and attempted to have included all along but were denied.
Barack Obama calls Kanye West a jackass
When Joe Wilson yelled “you lie” to the president during his speech the other night he was accused of breaking protocol and ended up having to apologize.
Today President Obama, in what surely must be a breach of protocol called an American citizen, Kanye West, a jackass for his now infamous appearance on the MTV video music awards. He did this while he was making off the record comments but the comment was reported anyway.
A sitting American president called an American citizen a jackass and you know what? The president is exactly right. Kanye West typifies exactly what is wrong with the younger generation in America today, he is a jackass, and I am glad that the president called this moron out.
As wrong as you may feel that Joe Wilson’s outburst was, Obama’s language was equally wrong but in the end I think both of these comments were justified. Obama was lying, or at least bending the truth, and Kanye West is a jackass. Sometimes the truth hurts.
Today RINO senator Susan Collins stated that she is opposed to a “public option” in the healthcare reform bill and she also stated that she is opposed to the “trigger” option that has been floated as a compromise to the “public option.”
This is a setback for the healthcare reform bill, Susan Collins was one “Republican” vote that I felt the president already had. But the news gets even worse for the chance of passage of the healthcare reform bill.
Maine’s other RINO senator is urging the president to drop the “public option” from the healthcare reform bill in order to gain more support from Republicans.
This is a major development, these are two key Republican votes and now they have come out against the “public option.” And quite frankly they are two votes that I thought the president already had on his side. If these two senators are turning on the healthcare reform bill I think that it could be a sign of things to come in the senate.
In the end I still believe that we are going to get some form of healthcare reform bill but the more we are able to get stripped from the bill the better off we will all be. If Collins and Snowe can be used as any kind of barometer for the sentiment in the senate I think that the bill in its current state is in real trouble.
Obama ignites trade war with China
On Friday evening the Obama administration announced that the United States would impose a new 35% duty on tires made in China. He announced this new policy in order to appease the unions that he owes his election to.
This has infuriated China, they are now accusing the president of “rampant protectionism” and are threatening to take actions on United States’ imports into their country.
Considering that the United States has borrowed billions of dollars from China in order to send out tax rebate checks and various other stimulus programs this seems like a very dangerous proposition to me.
If China ever decides to call in on its debt the game is over.
Jim DeMint to Obama, “Americans are awake, they’re informed, and they’re outraged”
Yesterday two million people descended on Washington to protest this administrations spending and the growth of big government. Jim DeMint was one of the speakers and here is some of what he had to say:
I think you all know that the president has warned us that if we disagree with him, he is going to call us out,” said DeMint. “Okay, Mr. President, we are out. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Waterloo
It is not a personal battle against President Obama or a partisan battle,” said DeMint. “It is a battle between big government collectivism and freedom-loving Americans. The stakes are high. Will we continue to hold tightly to the principles of freedom that made America the most exceptional, prosperous and compassionate nation in history? Or will we fall for the false hope and empty promises of more government solutions?
“Will we continue to climb the mountain of personal responsibility, free markets, Judeo-Christian values, and constitutional limited government?” asked DeMint. “Or will we sink into the pit of high taxes, suffocating debt and socialism?”
It is time that the President and the Congress stop lecturing us and start listening to us,” said DeMint. “Too many Americans have fought and died for our freedom for us to give it away with apathy and silence. The majority of the politicians here in Washington seem to think that Americans are either asleep or stupid. But you proved today that Americans are awake, they’re informed, and they’re outraged
Now they are telling us they want to control the most personal part of our lives: our health care,” said DeMint. “We must stop this government takeover of health care. And we must force the President and Congress to fix what’s broken instead of replacing what’s working. We cannot allow the government to control one-sixth of our economy and we cannot put bureaucrats between Americans and their doctors.
“Freedom fighters are outnumbered in Congress, but not across America,” said DeMint. “We are winning this fight, and if you continue to stand up and speak out, we will save freedom in America
Wow! Jim DeMint hit a homerun with his speech! He summed everything up.
This is not a protest about the man Barack Obama, this is not a protest founded because of the color of Barack Obama, but that is how it is being portrayed. This is a protest about Barack Obama’s policies. Jim DeMint drove that point home.
I also agree that the president sounds lecturing when he speaks to us, he sounds as if he doesn’t believe that we know what is for our own good. So he tells us that it is time to stop bickering and it is time to fall in with his ideas and he will take care of us. Yesterday should show the president that the time for bickering debating these issues are not over. He cannot wave the magic wand and end debate on an issue this important. THE TIME FOR DEBATE IS NOW! Barack Obama is the one that needs to grow up and understand that he can’t have everything his way, he will have to compromise.
We are winning this fight, we have now been heard from in large numbers. The media and the politicians are going to have to pay attention now. They cannot laugh off and discredit such a large gathering in Washington DC. This was a real protest by real Americans who are frustrated with the direction of the country.
Jim DeMint spoke to this crowd and voiced our objections to this president’s agenda perfectly. It is good to know that we still have some voices in Washington that will fight for us. Hopefully enough of them are listening to us and we will be able to defeat this bill.
If the politicians were paying attention yesterday, and I think that they were, they know that the American people are outraged and are not going to stand for this any longer. Yesterday could have been the turning point in this debate. Someday we may look back on this time and say that September 12th 2009 was the day that we took back our country.
I have several questions for those in the media and the far left politicians who claim that the Tea Party and Town Hall protests are nothing but an illegitimate astroturf movement that has been hired by the right.
Do you still think that the protesters are nothing but a bunch of hired guns of the right wing? Do you still think that we are illegitimate? Do you still think that we are nothing but racists who just oppose a black man in the White House and not his policies? Do you still think that we are just a few radicals? Do you still think that we are a joke and should not be taken seriously? Are you still laughing?
If you do still think that this is not a legitimate protest and that we are not to be taken seriously than you are nothing more that a fool. We proved today that the opposition movement is real and we have been heard from.
Today protesters took to the streets of Washington to protest the president and it has been estimated that two million people attended today’s event. These protesters wanted to voice their concerns with the president’s outrageous spending, the increasing government intrusions, and healthcare reform proposal. I applaud everyone who took the time out of their busy lives to stand up and fight for the country that we believe in.
We have been marinalized and trivialized by the media and politicians who in reality fear us but today we showed America and the world that we are not just a fringe group. We showed today that we are legitimate. We showed Washington what a real protest looks like.
While the anti-war movement and protesters the likes of Cindy Sheehan over the last several years have received widespread media coverage as support for the Iraq and Afghanistan wars crumbled the truth is that those protests failed to even come close to the representation that amassed on Washington today.
Today we saw what a real protest looked like and the politicians in Washington had damn well better be paying attention to us. We are not a joke. You were laughing at us back in April when the first protests took place but you are no longer laughing. We are real, average, everyday Americans and we are pissed off and we are telling you that enough is enough. You better listen to us now or you will be in the unemployment line next year along with an ever increasing amount of those very same real, average, everyday Americans that you pretend to represent.
The president recently said that the time for bickering is over and he is right, it is time for the president to stop lecturing us, it is time for him to stop telling us what he is doing is for our own good, it is time for the president to stop bickering with the American people. But most of all it is time for the president to remember that we hired him, he works for us and it is time for him to follow the will of those that hired him. We showed him our will today and he had better be paying attention.
During President Obama’s speech on healthcare reform last week he claimed that the healthcare reform bill would not provide illegal immigrants with free healthcare at taxpayer expense. This led to the now infamous Joe Wilson “you lie” outburst.
President Obama is right in one sense, the bill does not specifically grant illegal immigrants healthcare but there is no language in the bill that would prohibit giving them healthcare and there is no language in the bill that requires proving citizenship. So Joe Wilson was correct in another sense.
Republicans made two attempts to add language to the bill that would insure that no illegal aliens would receive free healthcare but both times Democrats refused to add it to the bill.
Now President Obama himself is asking for language to be added to the bill that would prevent free healthcare from being given to illegal immigrants.
The White House has sent out a memo with some bullet points that must be added to the healthcare reform bill to stop illegal immigrants from receiving healthcare:
- Undocumented immigrants
- would not be able to buy private insurance on the exchange. Those who are lawfully present in this country would be able to participate.
- Undocumented immigrants would be able to buy insurance in the non-exchange private market, just as they do today. That market will shrink as the exchange takes hold, but it will still exist and will be subject to reforms such as the bans on pre-existing conditions and caps.
- Verification will be required when purchasing health insurance on the exchange. One option is the SAVE program (Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements) which states currently use to make sure that undocumented immigrants don’t participate in safety-net programs for which they are ineligible.
- There would be no change in the law that requires emergency rooms to treat people who need emergency care, including undocumented immigrants. There is already a federal grant program that compensates states for emergency room costs associated with treatment of undocumented immigrants, a provision sponsored by a Republican lawmaker.
Joe Wilson brought to light on national television a loophole that was in the healthcare reform bill, the president’s hand was forced and now he has backed down and requested that this language be added to the bill to stop illegal aliens from receiving free healthcare. You may not approve of what Joe Wilson did, and it may have been a break in protocol and inappropriate, but it was something else also– effective.
This is an admission that while the bill did not specifically grant illegal healthcare it did not prohibit it either. The president deserves some credit for realizing that he was wrong on this issue and for correcting the problem. If the president manages to get this language inserted into the bill than this is one little victory in the healthcare reform debate and if it took Joe Wilson’s break of protocol to get this done than I stand by my original post on Joe Wilson and continue to support what he did.
The attack on the second amendment is in full swing with HR-45 and SB-2099
Many second amendment advocates were extremely concerned about the election of Barack Obama. He made his stance widely known with the infamous questionnaire that he filled out while running for a state senate seat. But now the attack on the second amendment is in full swing.
In a bill that has escaped scrutiny HR 45 is making its way through congress and it is nothing but a frontal assault on the second amendment. Here are some of the lowlights of the bill:
Basically this would make it illegal to own a firearm – any rifle with a clip or ANY pistol unless:
-It is registered -You are fingerprinted -You supply a current Driver’s License -You supply your Social Security #
You will submit to a physical & mental evaluation at any time of their choosing
Each update – change or ownership through private or public sale must be reported and costs $25 – Failure to do so you automatically lose the right to own a firearm and are subject up to a year in jail.
And it gets even worse, a senate version of the bill, SB-2099, will require gun owners to report all the guns they own on the 2009 federal income tax returns. Gun owners will be taxed $50 per gun owned.
All gun owners and second amendment advocates must call, write, and email their senators and congressmen immediately. Voice your opposition before it is too late. The time for action is now!
We all knew that this was coming but congress is in stealth mode, they hope to pass this bill before the American people realize what has happened. We cannot let this congress infringe on our right to keep and bear arms.
ACORN has been removed from the 2010 census
Justice has finally been served. One story that I don’t think got enough press, other than in the blogosphere, was the fact that ACORN was going to have a major role in the upcoming census. The fact that such a corrupt agency would have any say in how congressional seats are alloted was frightening and appalling.
In light of the recent events; the arrest of eleven ACORN employees for voter registration fraud, and the revelation that ACORN was helping people avoid paying their taxes (including a man posing as a pimp for underage girls,) the census bureau has cut all ties with the nefarious organization.
It is clear that ACORN’s affiliation with the 2010 census promotion has caused sufficient concern in the general public, has indeed become a distraction from our mission, and may even become a discouragement to public cooperation, negatively impacting 2010 census efforts
ACORN should never have been invited to take part in the upcoming census and we can chalk this up as a victory for the American people.
