New Hampshire Governor Let’s Another Bill Become Law Without his Signature

July 17, 2008

Teflon John (AKA Governor Lynch) is at it again. He has claimed that he is against mandates on health insurance companies, yet when a bill came to his desk that mandated that insurance companies cover weight loss surgery did he veto it? No,he did nothing. This allowed the bill to become law without his signature. He gets the best of both worlds. This is the second time John Lynch has used this tactic so that his name won’t appear on a controversial issue. You can read about the first time here.

Here is an editorial that ran in the Union Leader about this coward of a governor:

GOV. JOHN LYNCH knows he should have vetoed Sen. Bob Clegg’s bariatric surgery bill. He understands that health insurance mandates raise the cost of health insurance. That’s why he has said he opposes them. And yet he let Clegg’s mandate bill become law anyway.Granite Staters should not be surprised that Lynch ducked yet another tough issue. That’s how he has maintained such high approval ratings. It’s pretty easy to be popular when you never make a decision that could offend others.

That sums up this coward perfectly. To those who oppose the bill he can simply say “I didn’t sign it”, even though his non signature, non veto is a defacto signature. From those in favor he will hear a loud thank you.

People of New Hampshire need to start paying attention to what is going on here before it is too late.

San Fransisco Court to Decide Religion’s Rights on Gay Adoption

July 16, 2008

Okay, let me start off by quoting part of the first amendment in the Bill of Rights; “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof”

I quote this because a San Fransisco court is in the middle of “prohibiting the free exercise thereof” part of the first amendment. A San Fransisco court in the very near future could attempt to tell a church what they can and can’t do.

A recent San Fransisco resolution (that passed unanimously) that condemns part of the Catholic church’s teachings is now in the hands of the court system. The Catholic church teaches that homosexuality is a sin and they refuse to let same-sex couples adopt babies.

Now under the separation of church and state isn’t that their right to do so? How can the state decide that the church can’t teach that homosexuality is wrong and that same-sex couples must be allowed to adopt. If it is against the church’s teachings how can the government have any say in the matter?

Just because homosexuality is a politically correct behavior the state doesn’t then have the right to tell the church that they must accept it. The freedom of religion means that if you don’t agree with a religion or their teachings you don’t have to follow that particular church, it doesn’t mean that you can take the church to court and make them alter their teaching to suit your beliefs. That is un-American and extremely unconstitutional.

I guess my real problem here shouldn’t be with the court, and it probably wouldn’t be except for the fact that I think we know how the San Fransisco courts will rule on this. My real problem should be and I suppose is, with the arrogant, ignorant of the constitution lawmakers of San Fransisco. They believe that because they believe homosexuality is okay that the churches must believe it also, hence they condemned the church.

Fine condemn the church, I don’t care. But do not try to apply your belief system to the church’s. That is where my problem lies. This is not a case about whether homosexuality is right or wrong. This is not a case about whether a child is better off in a same-sex home that a foster home. This is a case about whether the lawmakers of San Fransisco can impose their beliefs on the church. They can’t, or at least they shouldn’t be able to.

Before you call me a homophobe read my “About Me” page.  I don’t give a damn what two consenting adults do in their bedroom, and neither should the lawmakers. But if a person belongs to a church that condemns homosexuality and they don’t agree with those teachings they are free to leave. The church doesn’t have to, nor should it, mold their beliefs to any member. And it damn sure shouldn’t be forced to by the government.

Senate Democrats are Upset by Barack Obama’s Arrogance

July 16, 2008

Cross posted at Grizzly Groundswell

Cross posted at Conservatism With Heart

According to this article senate Democrats are becoming annoyed at Barack Obama and his arrogance.

“They think they know what’s right and everyone else is wrong on everything,” groused one senior Senate Democratic aide. “They are kind of insufferable at this point.”

That is how a senior Democrat aide is describing Barack Obama and his campaign. What’s funny here is that it is quite natural for Barack Obama to feel as though he knows what is right for everybody. It is perfectly reasonable for him to believe that everybody else is wrong. Most nanny state politicians are Democrats. Nanny staters believe that they know what is best for everybody, they believe they are right and everybody else is wrong. So why wouldn’t Barack Obama feel the same way?

They are also upset that he just shows up wherever he pleases with little advanced notice and local Democrats miss the opportunity to have their picture taken with them for publicity purposes. Barack Obama is only concerned with his own campaign, and not interested in helping other Democrats get elected. In my opinion he is correct here. He should only be focused on getting himself elected, but this is causing a rift with other self-important Democrats who feel Obama owes them something.

Until a mailing that went out in the past few days, Obama had done little fund raising for Democratic candidates

Obama has sometimes appeared in members’ districts with no advance notice to lawmakers, resulting in lost opportunities for those Democrats to score points by appearing alongside their party’s presumptive presidential nominee.

They also feel that Barack Obama feels a sense of entitlement:

Democratic leadership staffers complain that, having defeated the vaunted Clinton political machine in the primaries, the Obama campaign now feels a “sense of entitlement” that leads to “arrogance.”

Again, this is part of the mindset that has been inculcated into the minds of the Democrat voters. The entitlement mindset has been what the Democrats have been playing to for many, many years. It is perfectly understandable that someone who has been raised on this mentality would believe he is entitled to whatever he wants. Democrats are reaping what they have sown and the fruit is bitter.

Barack Obama Says Immigration Agents are “Terrorizing” Communities

July 15, 2008

All this time I thought that Barack Obama has said that the threat of terrorism has been exaggerated by angry right wingers for political gain. But now we find out that Obama does believe that terrorism is a threat and in fact it happens all the time right here in America.

Only he believes that federal immigration officers are the terrorists and illegal immigrants are the victims.

“The system isn’t working,” said Obama, “when 12 million people live in hiding, and hundreds of thousands cross our borders illegally each year; when companies hire undocumented immigrants instead of legal citizens to avoid paying overtime or to avoid a union; when communities are terrorized by ICE immigration raids; when nursing mothers are torn from their babies; when children come home from school to find their parents missing; when people are detained without access to legal counsel.”

First, they are living in hiding because they are here illegally. If they weren’t criminals they wouldn’t be hiding.

Second, what is Barack Obama going to do about the companies who hire these illegals? Well, under his plan these people will be granted amnesty so the companies won’t be hiring illegals anymore.

Third, he claims that immigration officers who are doing their job of trying to send the people out of this country who do not belong here are terrorizing people. According to this logic people who enforce any laws could be considered to be terrorizing the lawbreakers.

“They are not terrorizing people. If you break the law, you can be detained and deported. Anyone could make the same argument about any other law enforcement. If I don’t pay my taxes, does it mean the IRS (Internal Revenue Service) is terrorizing me when they come to my house?”

That’s what we have come to in this country. There are no consequences for bad behavior anymore. Everybody is a victim. Even criminals are victim of the people who are trying to enforce the law.

This comment should not only be offensive to us angry right wingers, there is a group of people who should be even more offended. Legal, naturalized citizens of America. People who came here the right way, obeyed all the laws (including immigration laws) waited years and years to go through the process of becoming a citizen, worked hard and achieved this goal. Those are the people who should really be offended by this soon to be wide ranging amnesty program that will soon be implemented.

Why should a person come here legally and go through the trouble of becoming a citizen when they can break into the country and be handed legal status? In a Barack Obama presidency illegals will be the victims of immigration terrorism. Federal immigration agents will be the bad guys, the terrorists, and illegals will be granted full amnesty.

That is why we need to vote for John McCain, no wait a minute. McCain has the same immigration policy as Barack Obama. It doesn’t matter who we vote for, illegals will be granted amnesty while those who come here legally will still be waiting in line.

Barack Obama and John McCain are the same candidate when it comes to immigration. There is no alternative, there is no stopping the amnesty.

 Now that is terrifying!

New Jersey May Ban Baggy Pants

July 15, 2008

Evidently New Jersey lawmakers don’t have many pressing issues on their plate as it is now a priority of theirs to ban baggy pants. Things must be moving just fine in New Jersey if this is how they have chosen to spend their time.

How much time and taxpayer dollars are going to be wasted telling people what they can and can’t wear? Don’t get me wrong, I think this “fashion statement” looks stupid and the people who do it look like morons, but who is the government to tell these people that they can’t look stupid if they want to?

There is no indecency here other than the indecency of their judgement. I am sure that isn’t a proper use of the word indecency, and I am just as sure that someone will correct me, but I think everybody understands the point that I am trying to make.

This is what happens with the nanny staters. First they tell you where and when you can smoke. Then they regulate what you can eat. Next they tell you what you can wear. The list will just keep growing and growing.

Hopelessly Fighting the Devil Futility

July 14, 2008

A few weekends ago I mowed my lawn. Exciting, huh? As I was mowing my lawn I was also doing what I always do while mowing my lawn, I was listening to my Ipod. I had it on shuffle, as I always do.

As I was mowing my lawn this particular time a song came on and it suddenly struck me. The song is called Untitled, and it is by my favorite band, The Cure. (From the greatest album ever recorded no less).

By now the anticipation must be killing you. What the hell am I talking about?

I have been struggling with blogging lately, the posts have come hard. For the last three to four weeks now I have been struggling to come up with posts on a daily basis. I still have managed to post, but they come hard. I began to think that the passion was gone but the fight was still in me, why else would I continue to post? Then I began to wonder if the fight was gone but the passion still existed. I concluded that I still had the fight in me, I was losing my passion. That is why I was still able to post, although I think my posts have suffered because of this lack of passion. I found this to be very disheartening. From the day I was born, literally, I was a a fighter. But how can you be a fighter if you have no passion?  That is the question that I have been asking myself for several weeks now. It is very disconcerting.

I can’t even begin to count how many posts I have started before thinking to myself, “I’m just not feeling it with this post” and deleting the draft altogether. Some of the issues in these posts I have felt strongly about, but the passion to write was missing, I couldn’t finish the posts. That is a lack of passion. As a matter of fact I have started writing this very post twice before, under the title “The Passion is Missing, The Posts Come hard” but never published them, so this is my third attempt on this topic. I wonder if this one will make the final cut.

Anyway, back to mowing the lawn. As I said earlier the song “Untitled” by The Cure came on to my Ipod. A favorite song of mine. The irony of the song title in regards to my difficulty in finding topics to write about with passion was not lost on me and in fact was immediately recognised by me while I started listening to the words as they drowned out the sounds of the lawnmower.

This song is about lost love and the regret at not being able to express yourself to your lover before it is too late, however I found the words to be quite relevant to my situation.

Never quite said what I wanted to say to you,

never quite managed the words to explain to you,

never quite knew how to make them believable, and now the time has gone

Not being a writer by any stretch of the imagination I have found it hard to write at times. As the song says; “never quite managed the words to explain to you.”

The line “and now the time has gone” really strikes a chord with me in regard to the presidential election. I feel the time has gone for us to elect a president that I can get behind. My words are coming too late. I feel regret that I have nobody in the presidential race that I can vote for. I thought for a while that this is where the lack of passion came from, but it goes beyond that.

The song continues, and the following is the line that drove the point home to me on what I was missing. Was it the passion or the fight?

 hopelessly fighting the devil futility,

feeling the monster climb deeper inside of me,

feeling him gnawing my heart away hungrily

That is when it hit me. It wasn’t that I am missing the fight or the passion. It is what I am fighting against that has made blogging hard for me recently. I am fighting against the devil futility. The passion is still there, as is the fight. But deep inside I believed that the fight I was fighting was futile.

I still believe in the issues I write about but I have this sense that it doesn’t matter what I am fighting for, the effort is futile. The passion is there, the fight is there, but I feel as though the fight is futile, the battle is already lost. The country is going to go in a direction that I don’t agree with no matter who is elected president. The “monster’ futility has crept into my blogging and I didn’t even realize it as it was “gnawing my heart away hungrily” until I heard this song by chance a few weekends ago.

I just recently returned from vacation, I thought that the time away would help me to refocus on my blogging when I returned. But that has proven to be untrue, I still feel that futility in me. I don’t know where to go from here. My little voice out in the blogosphere is of little consequence to the larger picture. But I will carry on. As futile as it seems now it is a battle that must be fought.

The fight may seem futile but it is still a fight that must be waged so I will fight through the devil futility and who knows, maybe the feeling will subside. Maybe the battle can still be won. At least the passion is still there, and that is what really matters the most. If you feel strongly in what you are fighting for than you really have no choice but to carry on. To do otherwise would be irresponsible.

The fight will go on- against the left, and the devil futility. Maybe they are one in the same.

New Yorker Magazine Cover is Offensive to Conservatives

July 14, 2008

Cross posted at Conservatism With Heart

By now anyone paying attention has seen the New Yorker Magazine cover with Barack and Michelle Obama. Even those who don’t pay attention must have seen the cover by now, you can’t get away from it. Still I must give you my take on it.

Barack Obama’s camp has called the cover “tasteless and offensive”, John McCain agreed; “We completely agree with the Obama campaign that it is tasteless and offensive.”

And you know what? I agree. The cover is tasteless and offensive, but the wrong people are being offended. Maybe I shouldn’t say the wrong people, I understand why Obama would be offended, I understand why McCain is distancing himself from it, but Obama was not the target of the cover, conservatives were. Sure some people will look at that cover and think it is accurate, some will look at it and believe it is an attack on Obama, but it isn’t. Will it hurt Obama in the long run, I seriously doubt it.

This cover is an attack on us “angry right wingers” who seethe Obamas in this light. This cover was an attack on those who oppose Obama. This cover is basically saying that this is the way that those of us on the right see Obama. See, we are not allowed to oppose him on the issues. He is perfect, so it must be something else. It must be that we are the ones who portray Obama in the caricature on the New Yorker cover, they are just bringing it to the light of day.

It is getting to the point where Barack Obama is untouchable when it comes to debate. We are supposed to simply fall in line. If you question him on an issue, you must think the New Yorker picture is accurate.

I have been attacked several times on this blog for being critical of Barack Obama, the people who do the attacking don’t care that I also am also critical of John McCain. They don’t care that I am not voting for either of these candidates. Opposing Obama is not allowed. You must be a neanderthal to oppose Obama.

Presidential races are about debating ideas and issues but in this race we are not allowed to debate Obama without being portrayed as believing that Obama is the caricature shown on the New Yorker cover. That is offensive.

So yes, Obama is offended, rightfully so, and conservatives should also be offended, rightfully so.

New Hampshire Democrats End Straight Ticket Voting

July 14, 2008

New Hampshire is a state that has had straight ticket voting for as long as I have been voting. I don’t know how long the practice has gone on. You simply check the box at the top of the ballot for the party you want to vote for and you are done.

In New Hampshire the belief has always been that the option to vote straight ticket benefited the party in the majority, so much so that Democrats have been trying to abolish it for years, without success. Democrats still led the charge to end the practice of straight ticket voting even though it helped them regain control in 2006. Why would the end a practice that helped get them elected. Because they think that they are smarter than the voters. They also believe New Hampshire voters are too stupid to understand the straight ticket voting system.

Those who pushed to end the practice said it had been confusing, with some voters selecting a box on the ballot that indicated they were voting for all candidates of one party, then voting for individual candidates from the other party.

It’s too confusing? The ballot tells you right at the top that checking the straight ticket box automatically votes for all candidates in that party, if you don’t understand that than you probably shouldn’t be voting anyway.

They need to dumb down the voting process for us dim witted, hay seed, cow tipping hicks so that we can more easily vote for the more educated, brilliant, illuminated ones.

New Hampshire GOP Chairman Fergus Cullen thinks that this move will help Republicans in November.

He believes straight-ticket voting led directly to Republican Jeb Bradley’s loss in the 1st Congressional District to Democrat Carol Shea-Porter as well as the Democratic takeover of the state House of Representatives and the Executive Council.

“Candidates will not be swept in or swept out of office the same as we saw happen in 2006. I expect this means that New Hampshire will be ready for an equilibrium election, where things come back into balance,” he said. “That probably means Republicans end up with a net gain of seats held, especially at the legislative level.”

I love his optimism, I hope he is right. New Hampshire is at a critical stage right now and we need to get her back on the “right” course.

Global Warming Will Lead to an Increase in Kidney Stones

July 14, 2008

I know I have been posting allot of global warming articles lately, but the news just keeps on coming and we are reaching critical mass on this issue. We need to stop this in it’s tracks before it is too late. John McCain, and Barack Obama are going to cram carbon credits (read taxes) and regulations and restrictions down our throats when either of them become president. We must speak out now before it is too late.

So I bring you the latest in the foolish list of potential “problems” that will be created by global warming. Kidney stones. As if increased cat breeding isn’t bad enough, we are now facing an increase in kidney stones.

If global warming trends continue as projected by the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change in 2007, the United States can expect as much as a 30 percent growth in kidney stone disease in some of its driest areas, said the findings published in Monday’s Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

 Give me a break.

This study is one of the first examples of global warming causing a direct medical consequence for humans

Examples? What examples, this is speculation, nothing more nothing less. This is made up contrived bullshit. What do they use as science for this outlandish finding? This:

When people relocate from areas of moderate temperature to areas with warmer climates, a rapid increase in stone risk has been observed. This has been shown in military deployments to the Middle East for instance

They are comparing a person who moves from a moderate climate to warm climate to a shift in the earth’s temperature that is projected to be a couple of degrees over the course of decades? I declare BULLSHIT!

People are just falling in line with this “logic”, politicians are falling in line with this “logic.” Where will it end?

It will end when Americans are penniless and freedom less. It will end when we are good little subjects.

President Bush to Lift Executive Ban on Offshore Drilling

July 14, 2008
tags:

President Bush is going to lift the executive ban on offshore oil drilling later today. This is step one to increasing our own oil exploration and production, but the battle will continue.
This measure throws the ball back into the congress’ court. They must now lift their ban on offshore drilling for anything to happen.
It is time for them to take action instead of just babbling. While this won’t bring gas prices down for quite a while the more time lost just worsens the problem.
The time for action is now.
