California City Bans Smoking in Some Homes

October 11, 2007

As this article states, the Belmont City Council has now banned smoking in the privacy of your own home in some cases.

Thought to be the first of its kind in California, the ordinance declares secondhand smoke a public nuisance and extends the city’s current smoking ban to include multi-unit, multi-story residences.

Are you trying to tell me that if I own a duplex I am not allowed to smoke in it because somehow the smoke will get into the other side of the house and kill my tenants over there. There is no way in hell that second hand smoke can possible bother people in another apartment, they will not be able to smell it, and it will not hurt them. This is just a bunch of bull.

Smoking will still be allowed in single-family homes and their yards, and units and yards in apartment buildings, condominiums and townhouses that do not share any common floors or ceilings with other units.

Well isn’t that just nice of the smoking Nazi’s to let people smoke in their own single family homes, and in their yards. How long do you think that will last? After all, what gives the smokers the right to smoke outdoors if a non-smoking neighbor is outdoors also? Isn’t the non-smokers rights being violated here also? This will be the next shoe to drop.

Hillary Clinton Admits that the Country Can’t Afford Her Ideas

October 11, 2007

Cross-posted at Grizzly Groundswell

hillary_clinton.jpg she is focusing on proposals with more political support and she is not formally proposing anything she can’t fund without increasing the deficit: “I have a million ideas. The country can’t afford them all.”

That was Hillary Clinton’s defense after giving up the idea of a $5000 baby bond to everyone, including babies of illegals, born in the United States if she becomes president. She gave up this proposal after facing ridicule from the Republicans, who realized how foolish this idea was.

Two things strike me about her statement. The second thing that struck me about her statement is the first issue I want to write about. She has basically admitted that she is and always has been pandering to whatever group she is speaking to. If she truly believed it was a good idea to issue those baby bonds wouldn’t she fight for it? Shouldn’t she fight for it? The fact that she was so willing to throw the bond idea away tells me that she was just pandering in the first place. How many other ideas of hers does she really believe in? How many other ideas of hers are just pandering? I believe most of them are. Am I the only one who looks at her ideas and realizes that all of her ideas involve giving something away for free? I don’t think I am. But most of the people that actually listen to her are people that want something for free,  so they don’t even realize she is pandering to them. Of course nothing is free, taxes on the workers pay for everything, but that is beside the point.

The first thought I had when reading that statement was, this is the truest thing she has ever said. We can’t afford to have her as president, literally and figuratively. She say that she will not implement any of her one million entitlements, I mean ideas, if it will increase the deficit. And that’s good. But what isn’t good is how she still WILL implement her ideas without increasing the deficit, TAXES. She is going to tax workers for every last penny she can get out of us all in the name of fairness. So she is right when she says we can’t afford to pay for her ideas.

But we will.

George Washington University Student Group Promotes “Islamo-Fascist Awareness Week”, Draws Ire from the Left

October 11, 2007

This is a typical example of what happens when someone on the right dares to speak against something such as Islamo-fascism. The left tries to portray the right as bigots, they will not or cannot accept the fact that you can talk about a specific group of hateful Muslims without condemning all Muslims. I will use the line so many others have used before, all Muslims are not terrorists, but ALL the terrorists are Muslim.

The story linked to above is about a George Washington University student group called the Young America’s Foundation. This is a conservative group who was holding an event called “Islamo-fascist Awareness Week”. You can guess what happened next, but in case you can’t, I will tell you what happened. Or better yet I will also show you what happened next: Read more…

Study Shows Abortion is the Best Predictor of Breast Cancer

October 9, 2007

The government has been slowly but surely been regulating and banning certain behaviors and habits that they deem risky. We could go through the list again of everything that has either been banned, taxed, or regulated all in the name of looking out for us because we can’t look out for ourselves, but I am going to refrain from doing that yet again. However, I will use smoking for the sake of my next argument. Smoking can lead to cancer along with other diseases, I wont argue that. We are also told that just standing next to someone who is smoking can also cause cancer. Second hand smoke has never been proven to cause cancer, there are many studies that show no increased risk of cancer from second hand smoke, yet smokers are looked upon as lepers.

So certain politically incorrect behaviors are allowed to be frowned upon, regulated and taxed because, as in the case of smoking, they can cause cancer. But one of the leading predictors of cancer is a politically correct behavior, and as such cannot be frowned upon, shouldn’t be regulated, and should be taxpayer funded. That behavior is: Read more…

Democrats Set to Expand Wiretapping Legislation

October 9, 2007

As you can read in this article, the Democrats who before the last session of congress ended vowed to end the domestic spying program that the president implemented after 9/11. The only problem is that there is NO DOMESTIC SPYING PROGRAM for the Democrats to end. Now that they are in power they know that they cannot end a program that helps keep America safe, and that program is the FOREIGN SURVEILLANCE PROGRAM, otherwise spun by the Democrats as the domestic spying program. They knew all along that the president wasn’t spying on American citizens, they knew all along that people who were talking with suspected terrorists OVERSEAS were the ones being monitored. Only now that they are in power they cannot afford to admit it for dear of losing their base, so they have to spin it. And also extend it.

Two months after vowing to roll back broad new wiretapping powers won by the Bush administration, Congressional Democrats appear ready to make concessions that could extend some of the key powers granted to the National Security Agency.

Bush administration officials say they are confident they will win approval of the broadened wiretapping authority that they secured temporarily in August as Congress rushed toward recess, and some Democratic officials admit that they may not come up with the votes to rein in the administration.

To quote that Mastercard, or American Express, or whatever commercial it is, this is priceless. Another broken promise by the Democrats. A promise by the way that the Democrats knew they couldn’t and didn’t want to deliver.

As the debate over the N.S.A.’s wiretapping powers begins anew this week, the emerging legislation reflects the political reality confronting the Democrats. While they are willing to oppose the White House on the conduct of the war in Iraq, they remain nervous that they will be labeled as soft on terrorism if they insist on strict curbs on intelligence gathering.

A Democratic bill to be proposed Tuesday in the House would maintain for several years the type of broad, blanket authority for N.S.A. wiretapping that the administration secured in August for just six months.

There you have it in the first paragraph above, they are willing to oppose the president, but not willing to do anything about it. They are paper tigers, just as binLaden said after President Clinton cut and ran from Mogadishu. The only policy that the Democrats elaborate on is opposing the president, but when it comes to taking action against him they expose themselves as being on the wrong side of the issue or they would stop programs such as the foreign surveillance program which they have railed against.

Their non-action on this issue and other issues as well do nothing but tell us they acknowledge that what the president is doing is right, even if they won’t say it.

Obama’s Plan for the Environment: Tax, Tax, Tax

October 9, 2007

global-warming.jpg

“No business will be allowed to emit any greenhouse gases for free,” he said. “Businesses don’t own the sky, the public does, and if we want them to stop polluting it, we have to put a price on all pollution.”

That quote was made by Barack Obama. Before I get to my point I have a question. If the public owns the sky, not businesses,(I don’t agree with the premise but I will grant him it for the sake of argument), and members of the public own the businesses, doesn’t that mean that the businesses do in fact own the sky?

The point I want to make here is that once again you can see the true underlying agenda of global warming. Somebody has to pay, damnit. Now, liberals like to hide behind the smokescreen of raising taxes on the rich and on BIG BUSINESS, not just on this issue, but in taxation in general. But really who pays the taxes when businesses are taxed. THE CONSUMER, you and I. Any taxes imposed on big oil, McDonalds, Ratheon, Walmart or any other company, is just passed on to the consumer. BIG BUSINESS doesn’t pay for it, we do. When the price of any business goes up, whether due to the price of materials, the cost of labor, overhead, or yes, even taxes, the price of the goods or services are raised to compensate for this. This isn’t rocket science, this is just the cost of business. Any business that would just absorb all cost increases, including taxes, will not be a business for too long.

Now we have this contrived threat to the earth, global warming, and the left sees a way to play two of their favorite angles in one issue. Taxing the rich, and making us feel good. They play to the emotions of their base by making them feel good about saving the earth. They tell us, if we all do our part the earth will survive and this is designed to make us feel good. Then, to really play to their base they say that they will also tax businesses to save the earth. The left loves hearing someone is going to pay, and it is someone with more money than them. That also makes them feel good. When in reality it is always the working class people that take the hit with tax increases. The Democrat leadership knows this is true also, they just don’t care. The don’t care where the money comes from as long as the money comes from somewhere. They have managed to bamboozle their base into believing the Democrats are for the working class all the while tucking it to them.

Global warming is nothing but another attempt by the Democrats to gain tax revenue and it is picking up momentum. The working class people are going to foot the bill for this, just as they always do, and the Democrat base is all to willing to go along with it because they think it is an opportunity for them to stick it to the man. Wait until they find out that they are the man.

Notice the word “all” in his statement? Was that by accident? Because if he really does mean all, then he isn’t going to stop with businesses (which will pass the cost to us), he will tax us ALL. We get hit twice. This is nothing new when it comes to the Democrats.

For we are The Man, doesn’t it feel good?

New Hampshire Governor John Lynch’s Budget Shortfall

October 8, 2007

 Cross-posted at Grizzly Groundswell
storyjohnlynch-2.jpgThis article from the New Hampshire Union Leader paints a grim picture of the budget that our liberal tax and spend Governor John Lynch passed earlier this year. The budget, which included a 17.5% increase in spending from the last budget, and also included raising many different taxes and fees, was based on income projections from the aforementioned increased tax revenues. The problem with raising taxes is that there comes a point when the taxes are raised so high that people either stop buying the product that is taxed, or they go elsewhere to buy it. That is what is happening now, revenue is down because people have, hopefully, had enough. This shortfall, however, needs to be made up somewhere, and that will mean raising other taxes further, because we know liberal Governor John Lynch will not cut spending.

It’s only three months into the new state budget and already legislative Democrats’ wishful thinking has caught up with them.

Revenue numbers released last week show state revenues $21.5 million below projections just three months into the fiscal year. Josiah Bartlett Center President Charles Arlinghaus pointed out in his New Hampshire Union Leader column last Wednesday that at the current rate the biennial state budget will be $121 million short after just one year.

And if that wasn’t enough to make the average taxpayer in New Hampshire grimace, don’t forget about the monster hiding under the bed:

Remember, the amount of state spending in this budget is actually much lower than will be soon needed. The Legislature did not plan for the cost of providing an adequate education as defined by the committee appointed to come up with that definition.

For those of you not from this area, when the above article talks about funding the definition of an adequate education I will give you a very brief recap. The state supreme court ruled that the governor had to come up with a definition of an adequate education and basically provide state funding. Currently the schools are funded locally. If they did not come up with a definition and a plan to pay for it, the court would impose one. Instead of writing a constitutional amendment to remove the court from this blatant abuse of power and overstepping of it’s bounds, the Gov. did come up with a definition. The state will pay half the cost of education.

They didn’t bother to research how much this would cost. And this price-tag is not included in Gov. Lynch’s budget with that 17.5 % spending increase.

So while New Hampshire is already behind the eight-ball with decreased revenue because of increased spending coupled with burdensome tax increases, we have yet to see the devastating effects of the soon to be state government take over of education funding.

Then and only then will the voters of New Hampshire wake up and realize what a disaster the John Lynch administration has become.

At least I hope they will.

Sandy Berger Joins Hillary Clinton’s Campaign Staff

October 8, 2007

  Cross-posted at Grizzly Groundswell

Fox News is reporting that Sandy Berger has joined Hillary Clinton’s campaign as an adviser of foreign affairs. Why would she do this, I can only think of one reason. She, or Bill actually, owes him BIGTIME. Berger, as we all know, stole documents that possibly could have shown Bill Clinton’s ineptitude leading up to September 11th, hid them under a trailer, and then lied about it. Berger did all this while he was supposedly brushing up on Clinton’s role in dealing with terror before the attacks, for his testimony before the 9/11 commission. Nothing like rewarding bad behavior, huh? From the Washington Post:

Berger has admitted stealing documents from the National Archives in advance of the 9/11 Commission hearings in 2003. The documents, written by White House counterterrorism czar Richard Clarke, were a “tough review” of the Clinton administration’s shortcomings in dealing with terrorism, Clarke’s lawyer told the Washington Post.

Do we really want to have to live through this for four more years? Bringing a criminal onto her campaign staff. This move can do her no possible good that I can see, if her Democrat presidential rivals have the guts to pick up this story and run with it. Or the Republicans for that matter, they need to get out there and hammer her on this. It will be up to the candidates to shine the light on this as we know that the mainstream media will not see a story here. But just imagine if Rudy, or Mitt hired Scooter Libby to their campaign staff, then there would be hell to pay.

With Berger on staff for foreign affairs, can it only be a matter of time before Monica Lewinski is hired on for domestic affairs.

Global Warming is Destroying the Fashion Industry

October 7, 2007

This article claims that global warming is destroying the fashion industry.

It (global warming) is forcing fashion houses to ditch traditional seasonal collections for transeasonal garments that may lead to a drastic overhaul of fashion show schedules and retail delivery dates.

“The whole fashion system will have to change,” Beppe Modenese, founder of Milan Fashion Week, told The New York Times last week.

“The fashion system must adapt to the reality that there is no strong difference between summer and winter any more… You can’t have everyone showing four times a year to present the same thing. People are not prepared to invest in these clothes that, from one season to the other, use the same fabrics at the same weight.”

Are you kidding me? There is no strong difference between Summer and Winter. This is just not true. Here are the average temperatures here in New Hampshire:

New Hampshire, one of the six New England states, experiences a wide variety of weather and some of the widest differences in temperature in New England. New Hampshire has long, snowy winters; and short, sweet summers. In the cooler northern part of the state, Colebrook has an average January temperature of 12 degrees F; and a July average of 65 degrees. In central New Hampshire, Plymouth has an average January temperature of 20 degrees F; and a July average of 68 degrees. In southern New Hampshire, Nashua has an average January temperature of 23 degrees F and a July average of 71 degrees.

This is nothing but another group of liberals spouting their feel good agenda at the expense of everyone else regardless of the facts. Is this an attempt to woo conservative capitalists into the global warming hoax? We all know that capitalists are evil according to the liberals. They care nothing about the environment or anything else but making money. So if they can be convinced that global warming is destroying a business opportunity they will have to be on board. Are we really supposed to feel bad for these uppity-ups and their stupid theory that global warming is going to destroy their business? Just check out the last line of this article:

woollen pea coats could join polar bears as the latest casualties of global warming. And just who knows what will become of our beloved ugg boots?

Perfect, first we lose the polar bears, now we lose fur coats.

New Hampshire Toll Increases = More Jobs for Government Hacks

October 7, 2007

  Cross-posted at Grizzly Groundswell

Well now that New Hampshire is raising the tolls on the roads, not just raising them, by the way, in many cases doubling them, we see what the first change will be to our roads. MORE GOVERNMENT HACKS.

That’s right as soon as the tolls are raised Governor Lynch will have more opportunities to hire his cronies onto the government payroll. Currently in New Hampshire we have exact change lanes where you can throw your change into a basket and the proceed on your way. Once the toll are increased those baskets are going to be replaced with hacks. As if it weren’t bad enough that more than half of the toll money is diverted away from the roads where it belongs and into Governor Lynch’s liberal social programs, now we get more government employees.

What I find the most aggravating aspect about this, besides the increase, is the explanation of WHY we need people in the exact toll toll booths. You see we are considered to stupid to use them now. This is downright insulting to me.

“When we went to a dollar in Hampton people tried to throw dollar bills into the basket,” turnpike bureau supervisor Harvey Goodwin said.

With recent stepped up police patrols at toll booths, dollars fluttering into coin baskets would bring a surge in tickets for toll evasion.

They are afraid people will throw dollar bills into the baskets, therefor we need more people on the payroll. People who just happen to have a connection. This statement below does actually make me smile:

Goodwin said when the exact change lane goes away, people will take their place – smiling, happy people, Goodwin expects.

“We’ve always had very customer friendly toll attendants in New Hampshire. We make that very much part of our hiring process and orientation with toll attendants,” he said. “In many cases, the first person a tourist sees in our state is a toll booth attendant.”

I would be happy and smiling too if I were able to score a government hack job. Of coarse they are happy, they are being paid at taxpayer expense.

By the way, I don’t think it is necessarily a good thing that the first thing out-of-staters see when entering New Hampshire are toll booths. Welcome to New Hampshire, NOW PAY UP.

To quote the great movie, Blazing Saddles, ” We’ve got to protect our phony, baloney jobs”
