Minnesota teacher on leave after ‘kill Kavanaugh’ tweet

October 8, 2018

For some odd reason a Minnesota special education teacher, Samantha Ness, thought it would be a good idea to tweet about somebody killing Brett Kavanaugh. She wrote in her now deleted tweet, “So whose gonna take one for the team and kill Kavanaugh?”

She has now been put on administrative leave pending an investigation according to this story. I have to admit that I was one who was sitting back and enjoying the meltdown of the left right after the election. I found it entertaining to see them yelling at the sky and throwing temper tantrums but now I do not find it so funny any more because it is getting dangerous.

And it is getting dangerous because people like Samantha Ness are getting their cue from Democratic leaders such as Maxine Waters, whose comments could be interpreted as calling for violence against Republicans and not just resistance. All it takes is one wacko to see a tweet like this and act on it. Just ask Steve Scalise how dangerous this can be.

I still remember the heat Sarah Palin took for drawing targets over districts she thought Republicans had a chance of winning several years ago and how the media spun it into her calling for violence yet people like Maxine Waters gets a pass.

I hope and pray that cooler heads will prevail before it is too late but nothing I have seen leads me to believe they will.

Sunday, October 7th open thread: ‘Dream a Little Dream of Me’

October 7, 2018

Here is the open thread for Sunday, October 7th. Please feel free to post links to interesting articles and to discuss whatever issues arise during the course of the day. Nothing is off-topic here.

Last week we discussed 8 stories, did you miss any of them? If so there is an easy way to make sure it does not happen again. You can subscribe to America’s Watchtower to receive email updates. You can also follow America’s Watchtower on Facebook and Twitter by clicking the links on the right.

Well, my “vacation” is almost over and after seven weeks of recovery I head back to work tomorrow. I still will not be allowed to lift more than twenty pounds for a month and then that restriction will be increased to fifty pounds for one month. It is actually going to feel good to get back into the swing of things and see some of the guys, although I think I could get used to this. 🙂

Here is something a little different: Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong performing “Dream a Little Dream of Me” from 1950, enjoy:

“This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.” (Psalm 118:24 KJV)

Brett Kavanaugh confirmed to the Supreme Court

October 6, 2018

Unless you are living under a rock you have already heard that after a long, hard, dirty, and nasty battle Brett Kavanaugh has been confirmed to the Supreme Court by a vote of 50-48. In an interesting turn of events Lisa Murkowski voted “present” instead of “no.” This did not really change the outcome but saved Steve Daines a trip to Washington to vote later tonight after the wedding of his daughter was over.

I have reservations about Brett Kavanaugh, mostly with some things I have read about his support for the PATRIOT Act and privacy rights, but I do have to say it was good to see a person on the right stand up for himself against a line of attack the Democrats have used so successfully before.

We saw the Democrats use this same tactic against Herman Cain and most recently Roy Moore to great success. Both candidates dropped out of their respective races and then the accusers disappeared forever.  They thought they could do it one more time but apparently they underestimated the resolve of Brett Kavanaugh and now we are learning that, just like in those other cases, Christine Blasey Ford has announced she has to plans to push this any further. I wonder why…

For weeks, if not months, we have been hearing about the “enthusiasm gap” between Democratic and Republican voters but in another interesting turn of events it would seem as if the Democratic attacks on Brett Kavanaugh have galvanized the right and might just be enough to motivate Republican voters to go to the polls, thereby erasing the gap. This is speculation on my part but we are only a month away from heading to the polls and I think it should be interesting to see how this develops.

Brett Kavanaugh passes cloture vote

October 5, 2018

By a tally of 51-49 Brett Kavanaugh passed the cloture vote earlier today setting up a final vote on his nomination tomorrow. One Democrat, Joe Manchin, voted in favor of cloture while one Republican, Lisa Murkowski, broke ranks and sided with the Democrats.

If all the votes hold true Brett Kavanaugh will be confirmed by the slimmest of margins tomorrow. However I will not believe it until I see it after the theatrics we have seen since this process began. There is still the chance Joe Manchin can change his mind and I simply do not trust Jeff Flake at all. In what would be his “Spartacus” moment he could show up to vote tomorrow channeling his best John McCain to give Brett Kavanaugh the thumbs down.

If one vote peals away Vice President Pence will cast the deciding vote, but if two do we get to start this whole process over again. Won’t that be fun…

Democratic staffer arrested for doxxing top Republican Senators

October 4, 2018

In an under-reported story from last week which you might have missed, after the Brett Kavanaugh hearing was over somebody in the Congress doxxed some top Republican Senators including Lindsey Graham, Orrin Hatch, and Mike Lee.

It is now being reported here that 27-year-old Jackson Cosko has been arrested in this case and yes, he was a Democratic staffer in the Congress. So who did he work for? It turns out he has worked for several high profile Democrats over the years.

A Democratic congressional intern was arrested Wednesday and accused of posting the personal information of at least one Republican senator during last week’s hearing about sexual assault claims against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, authorities said.

U.S. Capitol Police said 27-year-old Jackson Cosko was charged with making public restricted personal information, witness tampering, threats in interstate communication, unauthorized access of a government computer, identity theft, second-degree burglary and unlawful entry. Police added that the investigation was continuing and more charges could be filed.

Senior congressional sources tell Fox News that Cosko most recently worked as an unpaid intern for Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, D-Texas. He previously worked with Sen. Maggie Hassan, D-N.H., and former Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer of California. He also worked or interned with the office of Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., the ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, as well as with at least one other unnamed lawmaker. A LinkedIn page with Cosko’s name on it describes him as a “Democratic Political Professional & Cybersecurity Graduate Student.”

In addition to working for one of my Senators this man also worked for Barbara Boxer, Dianne Feinstein, and Sheila Jackson Lee but of course we are supposed to believe this had nothing to do with any one of them. After all, it is not like any one of  them even had a Chinese spy working for her…

The FBI report on Brett Kavanaugh is complete, Senate vote could come on Saturday

October 4, 2018

This morning we woke up to the expected news that the FBI has wrapped up its investigation into the sexual misconduct allegations against Donald Trump’s Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh. We still do not know what is in it, and it sounds like we will not know until it is leaked, (and it will be leaked) but the White House is claiming the report has no corroborating evidence against Brett Kavanaugh.

Late last night Mitch McConnell filed a motion for cloture, which means the Senate will vote on cloture on Friday and if the nomination goes forward the final vote on Brett Kavanaugh could be held on Saturday.

This is going to be a very interesting couple of days to say the least. I was of the opinion throughout most of this fiasco that Brett Kavanaugh would end up getting confirmed but now with the vote seemingly on the horizon I am not so sure, even if there is no corroborating evidence in the report.

At this point I am just glad this saga is almost over one way or the other.

The FBI’s investigation into Brett Kavanaugh could be completed on Wednesday

October 2, 2018

It is being reported here that it is expected the FBI’s investigation into sexual misconduct charges against Brett Kavanaugh could be finished either later on tonight or tomorrow.

People familiar with the process said Tuesday that the FBI investigation into the allegations of sexual misconduct against Judge Kavanaugh could wrap up very soon, well ahead of the end-of week deadline.

GOP aides on the Hill and another person familiar with the process said they were expecting the bureau to conclude its report as soon as late Tuesday or early Wednesday. Agents had interviewed at least four key people as of Tuesday in its background investigation of Judge Kavanaugh. The White House had given the bureau until Friday to wrap up the probe.

This is just speculation on my part but I have to think if the FBI concludes its investigation so quickly, and ahead of schedule, that this has to be good news for Brett Kavanaugh.

From everything we have read and heard the case against Donald Trump’s nominee is he said/she said and unless the FBI was able to quickly come up with some evidence that has to date been missing I would have to believe this will end much like the Keith Ellison case where the Democratic lawyer investigating the congressman said, “an allegation standing alone is not necessarily sufficient to conclude that conduct occurred, particularly where the accusing party declines to produce supporting evidence.”

I would expect the same thing here, but of course one never knows…

Mike Pompeo to meet with Kim Jong Un on Sunday

October 2, 2018

Since the meeting between Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un back in June there have been various reports of the demise of the negotiations. There has been some back and forth between the countries, mostly from North Korea, as well as reports that the communist country was still moving forward with its nuclear plan.

It seems to me that both countries have been jockeying for position as the negotiations continue and despite the hopes and dreams of the left, who are routing for failure, the negotiations are still ongoing and according to this story Mike Pompeo is scheduled to meet Kim Jong Un on Sunday and will talk about a second summit between North Korea and the United States.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Pyongyang on Sunday as part of his trip to Asia beginning later this week, the State Department announced Tuesday.

Pompeo also will visit Japan, South Korea and China as part of his trip, State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert announced. It will be Pompeo’s fourth visit to North Korea since spring.

Pompeo is expected to attempt to set up a second summit between Kim and President Trump, who previously met face-to-face in Singapore this past June and issued a vague statement pledging to remove nuclear weapons from the Korean Peninsula.

As I wrote above, I believe the ups and downs we have seen since the initial summit are both sides trying to get the best deal they can and this has all been part of the high stakes game. I know the left is routing for failure and has been laughing at Donald Trump for supposedly giving Kim Jong Un credibility on the world stage he did not have before, while at the same time hoping the North Korean dictator would best our President, but while I still consider it to be a long shot I do hope some type of deal will be worked out.

Lawyer finds accusations against Keith Ellison unsubstantiated, refers case to local police

October 1, 2018

While the Democrats have been using unsubstantiated claims to derail the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court one of their own has been undergoing an investigation on charges he severely beat his girlfriend.

I am talking about Keith Ellison, who is a co-chair of the Democratic National Committee and is currently running for Attorney General of Minnesota. The Democrats hired a lawyer to look into the claims and today that lawyer has concluded that the claims are ‘unsubstantiated’ because she failed to provide proof, and with the fix being in is confidently referring the case to local law enforcement. Here is more:

An ex-girlfriend’s allegation that Minnesota Rep. Keith Ellison once physically abused her could not be substantiated because she refused to provide video she said she had of the incident, an attorney with links to the state’s Democratic party who was hired to investigate the claims concluded in a draft report obtained by The Associated Press.

The party launched an investigation after Karen Monahan alleged in August that the Democratic congressman dragged her off a bed by her feet while screaming obscenities at her in 2016. Ellison, also a deputy chairman of the Democratic National Committee, has denied the accusation.

Monahan said she had video footage of the incident and leveled the allegation just days before a crowded Democratic primary for Minnesota attorney general that Ellison went on to win. But she declined to turn over the video during the investigation conducted by attorney Susan Ellingstad, a partner at the same Minnesota law firm as Charlie Nauen, the top lawyer for Minnesota’s Democratic-Farmer-Labor party.

Here is part of what the lawyer said:

“An allegation standing alone is not necessarily sufficient to conclude that conduct occurred, particularly where the accusing party declines to produce supporting evidence that she herself asserts exists,” Ellingstad wrote.

I find that comment coming from a Democratic lawyer to be very interesting, don’t you? Especially in light with what we are seeing with Brett Kavanaugh. According to this lawyer just because somebody says something happened does not mean it did happen, especially when you offer no proof it happened.

That of course is exactly the opposite of what the Democrats and the #MeToo movement have been saying in the case of Brett Kavanaugh and others. In those cases the women always deserve to be believed and it is up to the men to prove they are innocent. Even if the only so-called evidence is some second front door you supposedly had installed 30 odd years later to protect yourself.

United States and Canada agree to new NAFTA deal

October 1, 2018

You might recall that near the end of August the United States and Mexico reached a new deal which would replace the outdated NAFTA deal. While this seems to be good for the United States and Mexico it left Canada in the cold and it was reported that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at the bilateral deal.

Needless to say, the mainstream media and the Democrats focused on the fact that the deal did not include Canada and used it to attack the new deal instead of focusing on what was in the deal despite Donald Trump’s assurances the United States would strike a deal with Canada.

Fast-forward just a couple of months and all is well with the three North American nations as Donald Trump made good on another promise and the United States has reached a deal to replace NAFTA with Canada.

  Here is more:

Trade ministers from the U.S., Mexico and Canada have reached a deal to revamp the North American Free Trade Agreement, the Trump administration announced late Sunday night.

The new pact, which is being called the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement, is a major step toward completing one of Trump’s signature campaign promises and gives the president a concrete policy win to tout on the campaign trail this fall. It also sets the stage for what is sure to be a high-stakes fight to get the agreement passed by Congress before it can become law.

The Trump administration already formally notified Congress at the end of August of its plans to sign a new pact and faced a deadline of the end of September to provide a draft of the agreement.

U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer said in late August that officials are planning to sign with their Canadian and Mexican counterparts by the end of November — a date that would also satisfy Mexico, which is eager to have current President Enrique Peña Nieto sign the deal before his successor takes over Dec. 1.

“It’s a great win for the president and a validation for his strategy in the area of international trade,” a senior administration official said on a call with reporters late Sunday.

Justin Trudeau is thrilled with the deal which means the Democrats are upset because this is a victory not only for the President but for the country as well. I was going to write that the alt-left sky-screamers will be upset, but the truth is everybody on the left is going to be upset with this news because they are all routing against both the President and the country.

But this is not a done deal yet and for some strange reason the Congress is not going to vote on the deal until next year which means if the Democrats win big in November they will have the chance to kill this deal. The Democrats are running on not simply opposing the President but destroying him and bringing him down, and because they have their own best interests ahead of the interests of the country they will most likely vote against it simply as retribution for the Iran deal.
