Congress Eyes Multiple Tax Increases to Pay For Healthcare Reform

June 20, 2009

Contrary to the promise that President Obama made to the American people during the campaign he will be raising taxes on most Americans if his healthcare reform bill is ever signed into law.

The president claimed that he would lower taxes on 95% of Americans but if the healthcare reform bill ever becomes law I think that it is safe to say that 95% of Americans will see a tax increase.

Multiple taxes are being looked at by congress to pay for healthcare reform legislation including taxes on soda and alcohol as well as a “value-added tax” which is nothing more than a national sales tax on goods purchased by ALL Americans. And if you already have health insurance, as most Americans do, you are probably going to get screwed twice over as your healthcare benefits will be taxed to pay for those without insurance, a plan that President Obama slammed, rightfully so, when it was proposed by John McCain during the campaign. But now that option is on the table.

All of these taxes will affect a vast majority of Americans and they all run counter to Obama’s promise that he would lower taxes on 95% of Americans but then again nobody really believed that Obama was telling the truth about his tax plans, did they?

We are constantly being told that we have to do something but sometimes doing nothing is better than doing something. I have to believe that this is one of those instances.

Socialism is depends on taxing everyone to the extent it can. That system cannot exist without heavy taxes not just on the wealthy but on the middle class and even the lower economic classes when taxes are put on all items—no one escapes “Big Brother”.

You forgot the additional taxes of cap and trade and other “green” initiatives. How anyone can stand there and claim he is not raising taxes on everyone is a testament to the ignorance of the population and the arrogance of our leaders. Great post.

I’ve written about the “green” taxes before, it is amazing to me that he can raise all of these taxes while claiming he is going to lower taxes and so many people believe him.

Many people get the impression that the “big boys” in Washington know what they’re doing. No, they don’t. Even the casual observer can see that this turkey can’t even be implemented. There aren’t enough doctors to make it happen. And throw amnesty on top of that…
