Judge rules that Florida’s voter purge can continue

June 27, 2012

Florida had been in the midst of purging its voter rolls of people who are ineligible to vote either because they are not citizens, they are dead, or they are felons, but that process was abruptly stopped when Eric Holder ordered Florida to stop the process at once. Eric Holder claimed that Florida was in violation of the National Voter Registration Act because the purge wasn’t concluded more than 90 days before the next scheduled election, and technically he is right.

But the state of Florida contended that it tried to keep in line with the law but was unable to do so because the Department of Homeland Security has been unwilling to provide the state with the information needed to complete the voter purge on time even though the state requested the information over a year ago. Florida filed a lawsuit against the federal government and today the state was handed a victory–the voter purge can continue.

Here is what Governor Rick Scott had to say about this ruling:

Today’s ruling puts the burden on the federal government to provide Florida with access to the Department of Homeland Security’s citizenship database,” Scott said. “We know from just a small sample that an alarming number of non-citizens are on the voter rolls and many of them have illegally voted in past elections

It certainly seems to me as if the Department of Homeland Security was purposely withholding these documents with the intent to ensure that Florida would not be able to comply with federal law so that the Department of Injustice could swoop in and stop the purge dead in its tracks, but Florida did not back down from the Chicago style thuggery which is becoming more and more commonplace in the Obama regime and today the state was rewarded for standing up against an ever expanding and all encompassing federal government.

Well, hush my mouth! Weren’t we told that ilegal voting was so rare it was a non-issue and we conservatives were just a bunch of racist? I don’t think the Demobrats could win an election without the votes of the dead and the illegals. Way to go Florida!

Yeah, we are told it is rare yet if this were true why are these people so against legislation which really wouldn’t affect anything?

They will do all they can to steal the election. They have thousands of lawyers and have spent millions for his ground game.

It is interesting that Obama has already deployed thousands of lawyers to make sure everything is legit because I thought voter fraud wasn’t a big issue.

Good for Florida. I’m glad to see them sticking to their guns and following through with this issue, instead of just sitting passively by.

It’s not easy being a state these days.

Agreed Larry! Obama has shown disdain for any state which passes laws with which he disagrees and I don’t doubt that he will try to make FLorida pay the price for this action.

Of course the DHS was stalling. They were playing games with Florida and this judge saw right through it. I’m sure Holder will appeal the ruling and drag this out as longs as possible.

There is no doubt in my mind that this isn’t the end of the story, Holder will do all that he can to delay this decision until after Florida’s primary in August. The feds are tying to undermine the system and Florida stuck to their guns and I hope this shows other states that the overreaching Obama regime can be challenged.

I thought after the SB 1070 decision that Florida would be lost due to the number of illegal voters that would feel empowered. Maybe there’s hope yet.

We won this one but we know the Obama regime doesn’t really care about court rulings so it will be interesting to see what their next move is.

I don’t understand. What difference does it make whether or not the purge was ended 90 days prior to the election or not? You have to takew those people off the list.
