Samuel L. Jackson: Sandy Hook is not about gun control

December 18, 2012

I rarely agree with anything that Samuel L. Jackson–or anyone else in Hollywood for that matter–has to say but today is the exception.

This is what Samuel L. Jackson had to say about all the gun control talk in the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre:

I don’t think it’s about more gun control,” Jackson told the Los Angeles Times. “I grew up in the South with guns everywhere and we never shot anyone. This [shooting] is about people who aren’t taught the value of life

That is the exact point that I made in this post on December 16th; We live in a culture that does not hold life as dear as it once did and instead of looking at what drives a person to commit such a vile act we are instead looking at legislation which does not address the real problem in today’s society. And the reason the politicians are taking this stance is because it is the easy way out; it gives the American people the perception that the politicians are doing something, and makes the politicians feel as if they are addressing a problem that is more complex than they–or the American people–care to admit.

Wow finally something a Hollywood star says that makes sense.

    As Plato said:

Good people do not need laws to tell them to act responsibly, while bad people will find a way around the laws.

It doesn’t happen that often Harrison, which is why I felt the need to highlight it.

You are right, Steve. The problems we are facing in America are much more complex than many of us realize. Banning guns may seem like the easy thing to do, but it is not the right thing to do. The problems go much deeper than anyone wants to admit.

You may want to stay tuned for the post that will be up on Political Realities in the morning. My brother is trying his hand at writing because he has been so disturbed by what has happened. He will be sharing a story he found on Gawker that has really touched his heart and soul.

I look forward to checking out his post Larry. Washington is focused on the wrong issue partially because they are acting on emotion and partly because many of them want tougher gun control laws anyway, and because they know this makes it look like they are doing something. Appearances seem to go a long way nowadays.

Having grown up in a culture of guns, we enjoyed leaving our doors unlocked and keys in our cars. Everyone knew the deal, and Crime was unknown.

I’ve been around guns since I was a toddler and I have never even once thought about doing something like this, I guess the left would find that surprising sinse they think guns to ordinary people into killers.

Same here, Dad was a cop all his life, we knew his guns may or may not be loaded and we did not mess with them, ever. My kids were raised to respect guns and to always assume they ARE loaded. My grandson is raised the same way, when you ask him about what to do if he sees a gun, he says “no touch it”, seems like that can be easily taught. We have guns for protection, what this administration is trying to push thru is wrong, it will NOT make this country safer….and now a “task force” with Biden? That will surely make things safer. However, make sure the people in high places still have THEIR security guards that are packing.

And somehow we all managed to make it through our childhood, imagine that! Isn’t it interesting how these politicians who are surrounded by security can tell us we don’t need to protect ourselves because they can take care of us?

He must have had a moment of clarity, or he sees people starting to talk about violence in Hollywood movies and he doesn’t like the focus turned on to his craft.

    1. Guns do not kill people, people do.

    2. Ted Kennedy’s car killed more people than ALL of my guns combined.

    3. Kids growing up with violent video games as their mentors instead of loving, caring parents are not likely to get very much in the way of values training.

    4. Moronic idiots on the left blaming guns for all the violence are just making the problem a whole lot worse.

    5. Good for you, Samiel L. Jackson. You FINALLY got one right!

So are you telling me that everyone deserves to own a gun- even those who don’t know the value of a small human life? If you say “Yes.”- really? If you say “No, those people do not deserve to have a gun.”- then isn’t that gun control?

No, I am not telling you that at all. SCOTUS has already ruled that “reasonable” gun control legislation is constitutional, the battle is over what constitutes “reasonable.” Nobody is foolish enough to believe there should be no gun laws whatsoever.

I will leave this article for you to read, it will explain it all just what Chicago style “gun free zones” are like.

To me, Steve, “gun free zones” means, open season for some nut case to come in and do his will. When are people going to wake up and realize this? Are they going to put metal detectors at every entrance and hope that covers it? It won’t. I still hold that if one of the teachers or the principal had been packing, this person could have done far less damage than he did. The fact that they were sitting ducks and had to become human shields to protect their students sickens me. Who on here, when they go into a restaurant sit with their backs to the wall whenever possible, facing the entrance and scan the room to find the exits doors as they are taking their seat? Maybe it was my upbringing, but I have done that for years, along with looking around the room to see who is in there and if anyone is acting strangly. Maybe this is a bit paranoid, but it is what I do. How safe do you feel now, in those gun free zones, such as the movie theatre, restaurants, schools? I sure do not.
