With the Democratic National Convention just days away it is now being reported that Virginia Senator Tim Kaine is the favorite to be Hillary Clinton’s choice to be her running mate. An announcement could come either tomorrow or Saturday. Here is more:
Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine has emerged as the leading contender to join the Democratic ticket as Hillary Clinton’s running mate, according to two Democrats, who both cautioned that Clinton has not made a final decision and could yet change directions.
The announcement of Clinton’s pick could come as early as Friday afternoon in Florida, a crucial general election battleground state. The timing is aimed at shifting attention away from the end of Donald Trump’s Republican convention and generating excitement before the start of Clinton’s own convention next week in Philadelphia.
Kaine, 58, has been a favorite for the vice presidential slot since the start of Clinton’s search process. He has been active in the Senate on foreign relations and military affairs and built a reputation for working across the aisle as Virginia’s governor and as mayor of Richmond.
Stay tuned…

It is being reported here that longtime Clinton and current Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe will speak at the Democratic National Convention. Here is more:
Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe says he’s slated to speak at next week’s Democratic National Convention right after his close friend Hillary Clinton gets enough roll call votes to be the party’s official nominee for president.
McAuliffe told reporters Wednesday that he’s still preparing his speech, but said he’s been given “free rein to say whatever I want” by Democratic party officials.
Of course this article fails to mention that Terry McAuliffe is currently under am FBI criminal investigation for allegedly violating the Foreign Agent Registration Act. Here is more on that story:
I honestly had no intention of writing anything about the Republican convention because I am sickened by the whole thing and have been trying to ignore it. Part of the reason I am sickened by it is because I feel this is all by design and the plan in now being executed to perfection.
At the risk of alienating more Trump supporters here goes: Many of you probably know that I have felt from the beginning that Donald Trump was a Trojan horse candidate who entered the race with two goals in mind–to help Hillary Clinton get elected and to destroy the Republican party. Day one of the convention was a fiasco and the biggest story to come out of it was the allegations that Melania Trump plagiarized Michelle Obama’s 2008 convention speech. When you read the text and listen to the paragraphs in question side by side there is no doubt in my mind that whomever the speechwriter was he or she knew what they were doing. It is too coincidental to be a mistake. I believe that Melania Trump had no idea where this part of the speech gained its inspiration but the people who added it to the speech did.
New poll shows Donald Trump in the lead in six out of seven battleground counties across the nation
Recent polls have shown tight races in several battleground states which are considered vital to winning the Presidential election. As regular readers of America’s Watchtower know, I put more stock in individual state polls than I do in national polls because we do not have a national election as of yet.
A new poll is out which goes beyond state polling, it delves into the counties in several swing states which historically have decided the elections in those state so needless to say I find this poll intriguing.
Here is more:
Just one day after cautioning Republicans to tone down the divisive rhetoric on the eve of their convention and in the wake of the Baton Rouge shooting Barack Obama was at it again, deriding the police, this time saying the police have to admit they have a problem and if they do so it will make their jobs “a lot safer.”
Here is more:
“if police organizations and departments acknowledge that there’s a problem and there’s an issue, then that, too, is going to contribute to real solutions. And, as I said yesterday, that is what’s going to ultimately help make the job of being a cop a lot safer. It is in the interest of police officers that their communities trust them and that the kind of rancor and suspicion that exists right now is alleviated.”
Of course he seems unable to understand that this statement is helping to fuel the anger and make communities less likely to trust the police, but then again perhaps that is his goal. I am not saying that there are no bad cops out there, in fact I understand there are, however maybe it is time for Barack Obama to heed his own advice instead of stoking the flames. It almost sounds as if this is a veiled threat…

Sunday, July 17th open thread: ‘Just Like Heaven’
Here is the open thread for Sunday, July 17th. Please feel free to post links to interesting articles and to discuss whatever issues arise during the course of the day. Nothing is off-topic here.
Last week we discussed 10 stories, did you miss any of them? If so there is an easy way to make sure it does not happen again. I understand that all of you are busy and cannot always find the time to check the blog for updates so why not subscribe to America’s Watchtower and receive email updates whenever I write a new post? That is the easiest way to follow the blog to ensure you never miss another post.
In addition to subscribing you can also follow America’s Watchtower on Facebook and Twitter by clicking the links on the right. But you will get more than that for I often post links to articles I probably will not be writing about so it is a great way to keep up with what is happening.
The Twitter widget in the sidebar is fully interactive. This widget updates my tweets in real time and allows you to respond to or retweet my tweets right from the blog. It also allows you to tweet me right from America’s Watchtower. How cool is that! If you do not have a Twitter account what better reason do you need to sign up for one!
I could not decide what to share this week for the musical selection so I decided to fall back on my favorite band. Here is The Cure performing “Just Like Heaven” from the show I was at last month. “Just Like Heaven” is Lauri’s favorite song by The Cure so I dedicate this song to my beautiful wife of almost 27 years.

Did Donald Trump try to back out of naming Mike Pence as his running mate after offering him the job?
I awoke to the news today that Donald Trump had made the decision to postpone his official running mate announcement due to the terrorist attack in France last night. I found this to be odd and I have to admit that my first reaction was that he still had not made up his mind and was using this attack as a convenient excuse to buy himself more time to make a decision. But if this is true than why not just come out and admit he had not finalized his decision?
With Mike Pence being a finalist as a possible running mate there was a deadline to be meet because Indiana law does not allow a person to run for two offices at the same time. Mike Pence had until today to decide to pull out of the governor’s race if he was going to run for Vice-President. It turns out my theory was wrong because Mike Pence was offered the nomination and he accepted it, therefor he had to inform Indiana officials he was not running for re-election as Governor.
CNN conveniently lost its feed when reporter started to criticize Hillary Clinton’s record
During a broadcast yesterday CNN’s feed just happened to (conveniently) go black just as a reporter was starting to criticize Hillary Clinton. Here is how it transpired:
Last week a Rasmussen Reports poll showed Donald Trump taking the lead over Hillary Clinton by 2 percentage points. While this was considered a statistical tie and within the margin of error it showed the billionaire businessman surging because the week before he trailed the former Secretary of State by 5 points.
This week the Rasmussen Reports poll shows Donald Trump with a 7 point lead over Hillary Clinton, here is more:
Just days before the Republican National Convention is expected to formally nominate him for president, Donald Trump has taken his largest lead yet over Hillary Clinton.
The latest Rasmussen Reports weekly White House Watch survey of Likely U.S. Voters finds Trump with 44% support to Clinton’s 37%. Thirteen percent (13%) favor some other candidate, and six percent (6%) are undecided.
Firewall with Bill Whittle: ‘Is Hillary Guilty?’
In his latest Firewall video Bill Whittle asks the question is Hillary Guilty? That is a rhetorical question of course but he goes on to explain why both she and Barack Obama do not care that she is guilty. Of course he nails it and you guys are going to love this one.
