The Huffington Post claims Mia Love is a benefactor of white privilege?
The 2014 mid-term election brought larger victories to the Republican party than most people had predicted. As a result of this some on the left seem to have become unhinged as they try to explain away their loses.
The most glaring example of this can probably be seen in this article on The Huffington Post about Mia Love which seems to suggest she is a benefactor of white privilege.
For those who might not know who Mia Love is, she is a black/Haitian conservative Republican woman who won a seat in the Congress representing Utah.
So how could she possibly have benefited from white privilege? Here is the twisted logic:
Is Federal gun control legislation dead because of the results of the mid-term election?
In this post on November 5th I briefly wrote about who the biggest losers in the mid-term election were; the gun control advocates. Now this post is stating that for all intents and purposes it appears as if any legislation on gun control on the Federal level is dead. (If nothing passes during the lame duck session that is.)

Gun control advocates, who poured tens of millions of dollars into the election cycle, maintain that they made important strides at the state level, including a win on a Washington State ballot measure expanding background checks for gun sales.
Yet even they acknowledged that the odds of federal action in Washington in the next Congress just got a lot longer.
“After Tuesday’s midterm results, it looks even more apparent that it’s not going to be anytime soon,” Dan Gross, president of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, acknowledged.“But make no mistake, our ultimate goal is for federal legislation to finish the job around background checks,” he added. “It may not be tomorrow, but we’re not going anywhere until it passes.”

With Obamacare headed back to the Supreme Court for a decision on the Federal exchange subsidies some of the Democrats have stated that the issue at hand is simply a typo, a mistake, sloppiness on the part of lawmakers. Surely it was not the intent of the law to exclude the Federal exchange from handing out subsidies, right?
It was not long after the original court decision which ruled the Federal subsidies were illegal that we began to hear the arguments above. But then a video surfaced which showed Obamacare architect, Jon Gruber, admitting that the law was purposely written to exclude the Federal exchanges from handing out subsidies as a way to coerce the states into setting up exchanged at the state level.
Despite an election in which the voters rejected Barack Obama’s agenda, and despite the recent meeting the President held with Republican leadership, and despite his claim that he is willing to work with Republicans the President is still preparing to move on illegal immigration through Executive Order on his own.
According to this story something interesting happened during that meeting between the President and leaders of the Republican party: Barack Obama reportedly told the Republicans he was growing impatient and Joe Biden, of all people, tried to step in to have a conversation with the Republicans but was shut down by the President.

Has Barack Obama’s “war on coal” turned the coal states red for the foreseeable future?
One of the things that is very frustrating to many of us is the fact that unions continue to support Barack Obama and the Democrats when they obviously do not have their best interests at heart. The most glaring example of this is with the coal unions.
But over the course of the last year we have seen the coal unions begin to fight back against Barack Obama’s use of the EPA to stifle the industry, I have written about this several times, the latest being here.
And it culminated with the Republicans winning big in several coal states; according to this article it may have a lasting impact on future elections.

Now that the individual mandate has been challenged in the court and upheld by the Supreme Court there is another challenge to the law which has been making it way through the court system and that is the issue about the Federal Exchange handing out subsidies.
The law clearly states that only State run exchanges can give out subsidies but the Federal exchange has been handing them out as well and that is where the problem lies. When this first came to light I thought it was a mistake and this provision was unintentional and could be blamed on the fact that nobody read the bill before they passed it, however it turns out that this was intentional and it was meant to force the states to set up their own exchanges.

Back in 2009 I wrote a post, which I tweaked slightly and reposted here, entitled ‘Is America too Big?’ In that post I wrote about what I thought was a controversial issue because at that time I had not heard anyone talking about how the 17th amendment to the Constitution perhaps did more to turn America from a republic into a democracy, and I stated I felt we would have been better off if the 17th amendment had never been ratified.
Since that time I have learned that this is not the novel idea I thought it was and I have found that there are many average Americans who understand how the country was supposed to function who feel the same way as I do.
There are now some more prominent and influential people talking about this as well: Mark Levin is one and now, with his latest Firewall video entitled ‘Give Back the Senate’ Bill Whittle has joined the fray.

Here is the latest Afterburner video by Bill Whittle entitled ‘My Top 5 Conservative Principles.’ At over 11 minutes it is longer than his usual videos but is well worth it. In this video, as the name implies, he lists what his top 5 conservative principles are. His take on wealth creation is brilliant in my opinion.
So what do you think of his list? Do you agree with him of would you substitute one of his principles with another? This could make for a great discussion.

Tea Party wins Wendy Davis’ Senate seat
It looks as if Greg Abbott’s victory over Wendy Davis was a double whammy for the left in Texas for the Tea Party captured the seat which was vacated when she decided to run for governor.

Burton’s campaign slogan had been “Take Back SD 10” and she took it back surrounded by 200-plus friends, family, and community supporters. Burton was declared the winner with 86,182 votes and 52.19% of the vote.
Senate District 10 has been a pivotal race statewide. The Burton win inches Republicans closer to an upper legislative chamber supermajority. According to a rule in the Texas Senate, two-thirds of the 31 member Senate, which equals 21 senators, must agree before a bill gets to the floor for debate. Burton’s win gives the Republicans 20 seats and puts that supermajority goal into a visible range.
Closer to home, Burton’s victory put Senate District 10 back into the hands of an elected official who shares the conservative values as the majority of its constituents. Throughout her campaign, Burton promised to bring that conservative voice back to the district.
