Here is the open thread for Sunday, September 28th. Please feel free to post links to interesting articles and to discuss whatever issues arise during the course of the day. Nothing is off-topic here.
After a few slow weeks it picked up a bit last week and we discussed another eight stories at America’s Watchtower. Did you miss any of them? If so there is an easy way to make sure you do not miss another post. I understand that all of you are busy and cannot always find the time to check the blog for updates so why not subscribe to America’s Watchtower and receive email updates whenever I write a new post? The latest New Hampshire poll (09/26/14) shows Walt Havenstein within single digits of Governor Hassan
The latest PPP poll, which is considered to be Democratic leaning, is out and there is a bit of a surprise contained within. This poll shows Republican candidate Walt Havenstein to be within single digits of Democratic governor Maggie Hassan.

the poll’s more surprising finding came in the governor’s race, where for the first time Republican Walt Havenstein was within single digits of Gov. Maggie Hassan.
In the governor’s race poll Hassan leads Havenstein among independents 51 to 43 percent and among women, 55 to 41 percent. Havenstein leads among men, 49 to 46 percent.
Operation Choke Point: ‘Square’ credit card readers will not process firearm purchases
Operation Choke Point is an Obama regime initiative which is supposed to protect the American people from fraud, and in the process of implementing this initiative the Federal government created a list of “high risk” businesses. If a bank does quite a bit of work with a “high risk” business they risk scrutiny by the Federal government, and of course they do not want that.
And naturally the gun industry has been put into the “high risk” category in an attempt to intimidate lenders from doing business with gun dealers and manufacturers to implement what amounts to backdoor gun control.
After a huge outcry from Patriotic Americans all across the nation the Federal Government announced it had removed the gun industry from the list of “high risk” businesses but has anything really changed?
Not if this story is true.

In this video he talks about “magical thinking” and how a belief in socialism is like a belief in the Loch Ness Monster. The man has outdone himself yet again and I will label this another must watch.

Veteran Affairs “fires” a man for the scandal who is already retiring
It has been quite awhile since there was any update in the Veteran Affairs scandal which was worth mentioning but today that changed. It is now being reported that the Veteran Affairs office has announced it has recommended John S. Goldman to be fired for his role in the scandal.

“Yesterday, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) proposed removal of the Director of the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center (CVVAMC) in Dublin, Georgia, following an investigation by the VA Office of Inspector General, and a follow-up review by the Office of Accountability Review (OAR), in which allegations of data manipulation were substantiated,” the press release stated.
“The proposed removal of the director underscores VA’s commitment to hold leaders accountable and get Veterans the care they need,” the release continued. “Relying on new statutory authority, the Deputy Secretary took this action in coordination with OAR, which reports directly to the Secretary of Veterans Affairs.”

According to the datasets used last year, October 1st will mark the 18th year of “no significant warming trend in surface average temperature,” says Patrick Michaels, director of the Cato Institute’s Center for the Study of Science.
And in the event that something changes between now and the upcoming anniversary:
And even if the current 18-year trend were to end, it would still take nearly 25 years for average global temperature figures to reflect the change, said Michaels, who has a Ph.D. in ecological climatology and spent three decades as a research professor of environmental sciences at the University of Virginia.
And yet the global warming beat goes on undeterred…
Gunrunner: Court denies DOJ request to delay releasing a list of withheld documents
On the same day that the Obama regime announced that Eric Holder would be stepping down as Attorney General once his replacement was confirmed the same department was dealt a slight blow in the courts regarding Fast and Furious.
This has led some to speculate that these two events are connected but I do not think that is the case. Eric Holder’s resignation has been rumored for some time now and while I do not generally believe in coincidences when it comes to politics I fail to see how this ruling would lead Eric Holder to resign.
I have always believed that Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick was going to be Barack Obama’s next choice in the event of a Supreme Court opening but it now appears as if this may signal Eric Holder will be that choice, with Deval Patrick replacing Eric Holder. In my opinion it is much more likely that this move was made to set up Eric Holder as a Supreme Court nominee than it is that the Republicans actually drove him from office.
The United Nations to exempt China from stricter CO2 regulations?
Yesterday Barack Obama appeared at the United Nations climate summit and he said that global warming was such a threat to the world and to our way of life that he was willing to take Executive action in order to help combat the problem.
This Executive action includes the Federal government taking into consideration the effects on the climate while deciding whether or not to assist other countries with development projects.

This video is starting to make the rounds tonight so you may have already seen it, but in case you have not here is how Barack Obama saluted the Marines when he left Marine One earlier today when he arrived at the United Nations to talk about global warming:
I really do not think I need to add anything to this video, it speaks for itself. But considering the fact he landed at the United Nations to speak about climate change I will ask the following question: isn’t Styrofoam bad for the environment?
