New Hampshire Democrat wants to restrict freedoms so libertarians won’t move into the state
This is a story that kind of goes hand in hand with yesterday’s post about the ruling class Republicans in Washington trying to limit who can challenge them in the primaries in 2014 so they can protect those whom have already ascended to power, but in this case we are talking about the state of New Hampshire rather than the federal government.
The ruling class Republicans in the federal government believe the biggest threat to their power is to be challenged by more conservative or constitutionally minded people and now we have heard from a Democrat in the New Hampshire state legislature that the biggest threat to New Hampshire’s future is people who believe in liberty moving into the state. She has a plan to deal with this threat:
She went on to write that while there is “legally, nothing we can do to prevent them from moving here to take over the state, which is their openly stated goal,” she proposed making “the environment here so unwelcoming that some will choose not to come, and some may actually leave.”

The ruling class elite Republicans in the Senate have a theory as to why they lost in the 2012 election and they are making a move to rectify what they see as their biggest problem.
So what do Republicans think their biggest problem is? Is it not sticking to conservative principles? Is it helping to spend this country into oblivion? Is it caving to Barack Obama on tax increases? Is it voting for the NDAA or the FAA re-authorization act, which combined labels the United States as a battlefield and allows for the spying of Americans with unmanned drones? Is it their continued support of the PATRIOT Act? Is it their support for fourth amendment violations of unlawful searches at airports? The long train of abuses goes on and on but they don’t see any of this as a reason for their loses.
Fiscal cliff deal includes $76 billion in corporate tax breaks
While Barack Obama was running for reelection he stated over and over again that it was time for the wealthy to pay their fair share. He claimed that he would fight to keep taxes from going up on the middle class while promising he would make the millionaires and billionaires contribute more. He claimed that he would not let the Republicans hold the middle class hostage in the fiscal cliff negotiations.
On January 2nd the Congress finally passed fiscal cliff legislation and despite claims made by the Congress and the president this bill does not stop taxes from going up on 98% of Americans–in fact, taxes are actually going up on 77% of Americans. (Yes, that does include the middle class.)
Promise number one broken, but how about raising taxes on the rich? Well, for the most part if you are rich your taxes are going up as well…..as long as you are not a movie producer, rum manufacturer, or a green energy company, because in that case there is a good chance you will be getting part of the $76 billion in corporate tax credits which were slipped into the legislation.
As we all know, yesterday the Congress swept in and saved the day by coming to an agreement to avert the fiscal cliff and the tax increases which almost every American would have to pay if we fell over the cliff and remained there.
Barack Obama went on television and proclaimed that this deal kept taxes from increasing on 98% of Americans and 97% of small businesses while Republicans who supported the deal justified it using the same measuring stick.
And that would be great if it were true, but it is not as we can see in this article.
Exposing the hypocrisy of the Hollywood elites on gun control
Some of the elite Hollywood actors and actresses have come together in the wake of the Sandy Hook massacre and are demanding more gun control laws. They have released a video called ‘Demand a Plan’ and in this video they are calling for Americans to call upon their legislators and demand more gun control legislation–willfully ignoring the role their movies might play in the culture of violence.
In this video–which I found at Conservative Hideout–the ‘Demand a Plan’ video has been edited to include clips of these very same actors in some of the roles they have played in the movies. While I don’t really have a problem with violence in movies this highlights the hypocrisy of those in Hollywood who are pushing for gun control legislation.
Democrat moves to block Barack Obama’s Executive Order which granted pay raises to the Congress
In the midst of the fiscal cliff debates Barack Obama issued an Executive Order which would lift the pay freezes of many federal officials and would give the Congress–among others–a pay raise of .5% beginning in 2013. A raise of .5% is not what anyone would consider a large pay raise but it just happens to be exactly .5% more than I–and many Americans–have received in three years while we are now being asked to pay more taxes to the very same people who will receive these raises.
Until now not one of the ruling class elite politicians in Washington bothered to stand up and oppose this pay raise in spite of the fact they are asking ordinary Americans to “sacrifice” for the good of the country, but that changed today when Democrat Congressman John Barrow sent a letter to the House leadership asking them to oppose the pay raise.
Video: Assault Weapons Ban 2013
As I wrote about in this post on December 27th, Dianne Feinstein is preparing “assault weapons” legislation which she intends to introduce in the Senate early in the new year.
In that post I wrote about how this legislation, as currently crafted, goes well beyond any reasonable restrictions, and in fact would ban almost all handguns, while requiring those of us who currently own these types of handguns to register with the federal government as if we were sex offenders, including being photographed and fingerprinted.
Here is a video which explains exactly how intrusive and dastardly this legislation really is much better than I ever could, it is about 16 minutes now but is a must see video on what is about to be thrust upon us if we let it.
Over the fiscal cliff we go
Things could change later on tonight or at some point tomorrow–I highly doubt it–but as of right now America has plunged head first off the fiscal cliff. Now that we have fallen off the fiscal cliff it is time to briefly write about the issue I have been avoiding here for as long as possible. I haven’t written any posts on the fiscal cliff negotiations until now for one main reason; I expected our leaders in Washington would take us over this fiscal cliff, and in fact this fate was sealed on November 6th.
In November we had a choice. One candidate ran on the promise of raising taxes and one candidate ran on the promise of not raising taxes, and Americans chose the candidate who promised to raise taxes with the hope that those taxes wouldn’t extend on down to themselves. When Barack Obama won reelection the deal was sealed and a tax increase was guaranteed; the only questions left were how high would taxes go up, and on whom would they go up? And did anyone really think that these same politicians who got us into this mess would all of a sudden find common ground where there is none? If you did you were fooling yourself.
Open thread for Sunday, December 30th: New commenting policy
This is the open thread for Sunday, December 30th; please feel free to post links to interesting articles and to discuss whatever issues arise during the course of the day.
I want to take this opportunity to announce a new commenting policy on America’s Watchtower; it isn’t actually a new policy but rather re-instituting the old policy. Until a few months ago posting anonymously was not allowed, but after a problem which wouldn’t allow some people to comment I changed the policy to allow anonymous comments. That problem has been rectified but I never changed the commenting policy back.
Recent weeks have seen an increase in traffic and with that increase has come several anonymous commenters which has made the blog confusing at times for people trying to keep up with the comments–myself included–and it has also made it easier for spam comments to make it through my spam filter; I have been trying to delete the spam as it comes up but it makes for quite a bit more work.
So, beginning on January 1st, 2013 America’s Watchtower will no longer allow anonymous comments, if you still wish to comment here all you have to do is create a name and provide an email address. I feel this is a fair policy and enough time has been given to anyone who wishes to post here. If anyone has problems commenting after the first of the year feel free to contact me by email.
