Whether Barack Obama is willing to admit it or not, the United States is at war with Libya. We may only be playing a supporting role in this war, but the fact remains that the United States is providing support for countries which are bombing Libya and because of this we are helping to accelerate a war effort in which the end game appears to be regime change, and in helping other countries to wage war on Libya we are engaged in the war also. This appears to be a nation building war effort, and while I will not be saddened to see Ghadaffi removed from power, Barack Obama ran against this type of action when he was campaigning for president.
The president tried to explain the reason for U.S. involvement in Libya by claiming that United States’ values were under attack in Libya, but is that not the case in Syria, Yemen, Ivory Coast, and was that not the case in Iran during the protests there as well? Why then did Barack Obama chose to enter the United States in this war? There is more to our involvement there and the American people deserve to know why we are there. We know that France petitioned the United Nations to approve military action in Libya, and we know that France was concerned about their oil supply, we also know that the United Nations supported this effort and that Barack Obama followed the advice of the United Nations when he committed to engage Libya. But we still do not know what justification Barack Obama used, other than being a pawn of the United Nations, for agreeing to this military action.
Today the Congress of the United States took two actions in an attempt to hold Barack Obama’s feet to the fire in regards to his war effort in Libya.
I have been less than impressed with the Republican candidates for president to this point and I have been frustrated with the lack of enthusiasm and the slow pace of the primary season to this point, but it seems as if the nomination season is finally starting to heat up and it was Tim Pawlenty who scored the first big blow of the primary heading into tomorrow’s debate.
President Obama said that he designed Obamacare after Romneycare and basically made it Obamneycare,” Pawlenty said on “Fox News Sunday,” adding: “What I don’t understand is that they both continue to defend it
Weinergate: Anthony Weiner used the Congressional gym to take semi-nude pictures of himself
One of the under-reported–or non-reported–angles of Weinergate is the issue of whether or not the Congress “member” used Congressional resources to indulge himself during his online escapades. It had previously been reported that Anthony Weiner used his Congressional phone during working hours to engage in “steamy phone sex” with at least one woman, yet that story has not gained the momentum in the mainstream media that such an abuse of authority should garner.
While his defenders claim that this is a personal matter and does not take away from his ability to represent his constituents, and while they defend him by claiming that he is a sick man who is now seeking help, they neglect the fact that Anthony Weiner might not have been repserenting his constituents to the best of his ability because he may have been too busy using his office to solicit young women when he should have been doing the people’s business. If he was using Congressional resources than this goes beyond being a simple personal matter and becomes a matter of possible Congressional ethics violations which must be investigated.
Just when you thought that the news couldn’t get any worse for the embattled Congress “member” word comes out that he used the Congressional gym as the setting for many of the pictures he took of himself to send to these girls who were half his age. This leads to more questions about whether Anthony Weiner used Congressional resources to conduct his lewd online affairs and should lead to renewed calls for his resignation.
The arrogance and the narcissism of Anthony Weiner is on full display here (in more than one way) and it led him to believe that young women desired to see his half clothed body and took many, many pictures of himself in front of a mirror because he felt he was all that–these are the actions of a man who is so full with himself and drunk with power that he honestly felt he could get away with anything.
The evidence of the fact that Anthony Weiner used Congressional resources for his sexcapades is growing and this is now becoming an issue of Congressional ethics; simply checking himself into rehab should not be enough to deflect the blame away from his actions. But that is exactly what he is trying to do, he is claiming that he couldn’t help himself, that he is sick and needs help. And even if that were true than the best prescription for him would be to relinquish what enabled him in the first place–his seat in the Congress.
Department of Justice caught in a racial quota scandal
According to this article the Department of Justice has been caught trying to pressure the Dayton, Ohio police and firefighters to lower their testing standards because not enough minorities have been passing the written exam. The DOJ is claiming that it isn’t all that important for a police officer or for a firefighter to be able to read or write and is demanding that the departments lower their entry standards. When you are forced to lower your standards you really do not have standards, do you?
This highlights not only a race identity based agenda on behalf of the Obama regime, but also a fundamental failing of the education system in America. Under this type of policy the education level of the applicant is unimportant, but what is important is the color of that applicant’s skin and until we stop putting people into groups–African-America, Mexican-American, Asian-American and so-forth–and start looking at everyone as Americans we will never fully solve the race issue in this country. This type of policy separates people into groups based on race and gender and looks to pander to those groups individually, instead of treating all people as if they were equals. This type of policy actually promotes race based identity politics and seeks to treat different groups differently–it does not bring the American people together, on the contrary, it pushes us apart.
Now that it has been learned that Anthony Weiner has possibly engaged in sexting with an underage girl, and amid fresh calls of resignation from his own party, the congressman has decided to take a leave of absence from the Congress in order to seek rehabilitation.
Congressman Weiner departed this morning to seek professional treatment to focus on becoming a better husband and healthier person,” Weiner’s office said in a statement. “In light of that, he will request a short leave of absence from the House of Representatives so that he can get evaluated and map out a course of treatment to make himself well.“Congressman Weiner takes the views of his colleagues very seriously and has determined that he needs this time to get healthy and make the best decision possible for himself, his family and his constituents”
Congressman Weiner has the love of his family, the confidence of his constituents, and the recognition that he needs help. I urge Congressman Weiner to seek that help without the pressures of being a Member of Congress,” Pelosi said in a statement released this afternoon.
Wasserman Schultz called Weiner’s continued service in Congress “untenable,” and added that “this sordid affair has become an unacceptable distraction.”
And here is what another Democrat aide had to say:
I was surprised that he decided to seek treatment,” said a House Democratic aide. “I’m guessing he’s hoping to put calls for resignation at bay by doing the treatment if that helps him. He’s hoping it’ll give him more time
Democrat Senator decries the EPA’s expansion of power
As I first wrote about here, new EPA regulations on greenhouse gasses have forced American Electric Power to order the shutdown of five coal-powered power plants. This news will help to facilitate–much to Barack Obama’s great pleasure–the “necessary skyrocketing” of energy prices that he promised during his campaign. American Electric Power is one of the largest utilities companies in the United States and if they cannot afford to comply with the new EPA regulations it is impossible to believe that the smaller energy companies will be able to comply. This is just the first of many such announcements.
In addition to the skyrocketing of energy prices Barack Obama also promised that he would bankrupt the coal industry when he became president and that is now underway with this news. Barack Obama identified an industry which he felt had no right to exist and the EPA has begun the process of eliminating that industry for him.
Weinergate: Did Anthony Weiner send messages to a minor?
When Anthony Weiner held his apology press conference he was asked by a reporter if any of his “correspondence” was done with minors. His answer was a little strange; he said that as far as he knew all his messages were held with women who were of age. He then went on to say that some people lie online and misrepresent themselves, so he could not say with certitude that all the women he was in online relationships were in fact of legal age.
While he is absolutely right when he stated there are people online who might have misrepresented themselves, the very fact that he mentioned this was a red flag for it seemed as if he might have some inkling that not all of the women he was talking to were of age. He may very well have been trying to stem the tide and deflect the blame for this breaking story.
The police have now questioned a 17 year old girl about communications which she has had with Anthony Weiner. The questions are: Did Anthony Weiner know that this girl was underage when he was communicating with her? Were these communications lewd? As I stated above, Anthony Weiner already stated that “to the best of my knowledge” all of the girls were of the age of consent, but after lying about this story for a week is he really to be taken at his word when he says he believed that all of the girls were of legal age.
Anthony Weiner’s actions in the aftermath of the breaking of this scandal have left him with no credibility and it can be reasonably assumed that he did in fact know that at least this one girl was underage. As this scandal deepens it is becoming more and more obvious that he needs to do the honorable thing and step down. He is now entering Mark Foley territory.
Can you say Atlas Shrugged? Where is Dagney Taggart when you need her?
When Barack Obama was running for president he had the following to say about coal plants and his cap and trade policy:
So, if somebody wants to build a coal plant, they can — it’s just that it will bankrupt them, because they are going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that’s being emitted
Barack Obama identified an industry which he was hostile to and promised to put them out of business, and now it is happening as American Electric Power has announced it will shut down five coal powered plants and spend billions of dollars because of new upcoming EPA regulations.
Utility giant American Electric Power said Thursday that it will shut down five coal-fired power plants and spend billions of dollars to comply with a series of pending Environmental Protection Agency regulations.
Rep. Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) immediately pounced on AEP’s announcement.
“This is a perfect example of the EPA implementing rules and regulations without considering the devastating impact they may have on local economies and jobs,” Capito said.
Capito said she will write a letter to EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson asking whether the agency took into account the economic impact of its regulations.
“Let me be clear, it’s decisions like the one made by AEP today that demonstrate the urgent need to rein in government agencies like the EPA, preventing them from overstepping their bounds and imposing regulations that not only cost us good American jobs, but hurt our economy,” said Manchin, an outspoken critic of the EPA.
This is exactly what Barack Obama envisioned when he was running for president as is evidenced his quote above, but this is even more insidious in light of the fact that Barack Obama’s cap and trade policy–which was designed to bankrupt the coal industry–never passed the Congress and was never signed into law.
Because Barack Obama failed to push his radical cap and trade agenda through the Congress using the constitutional procedure the EPA has taken it upon its back to implement Barack Obama’s agenda through dictate, and here we have the first victims of the new regulations before they even go into effect.
With less plants producing power the price of energy will “necessarily skyrocket” and that is something that Barack Obama promised would happen if he were elected president–at least he is keeping one promise he made during the campaign.
Newt Gingrich’s bid to become president got off to a rough start after he ridiculed Paul Ryan’s budget proposal calling it “right wing social engineering” and even though he apologized, and laughingly claimed he was misquoted, his campaign never seemed to recover from the blunder.
Today it got even worse for the presidential hopeful when he learned that the whole top tier of his campaign committee decided to resign siting a dispute over the “direction of the campaign.” I have made no bones about my opposition to Newt Gingrich based on his moral failings, I had no intention of voting for him even if he won the Republican nomination, so I am losing no sleep over this news. But it does lead me to wonder what exactly happened to Gingrich’s campaign. There is more to this story than we are being led to believe.
I do not believe there was simply a difference of opinion regarding campaign strategy, and I do not believe his past indiscretions had anything to do with this because his staff knew about his failing when the signed on–I think it is more likely that his staff realized he couldn’t recover from his Paul Ryan budget gaffe and decided to look for a candidate who was more true to conservative ideals–a more electable candidate.
It is being speculated that Rick Perry is now seriously considering a presidential run, and people are wondering if these staffers are going to join the Perry campaign. It seems as likely a scenario as anything I can come up with. This move could highlight both Gingrich’s unelectability as well as the likelihood of a Perry run for president. As is stated in the link above; these staffers aren’t leaving without knowing where they are going.
Newt Gingrich claims that this will not effect his candidacy and he is still fully dedicated to running for president, but this certainly throws his already floundering campaign into disarray and it will be interesting to see how he responds to it moving forward. his first test will be at the debate next week, I will be watching with quite a bit of interest.
The federal government does not take the issue of illegal immigration seriously and this is not a Democrat problem alone. Both parties are guilty of being soft on illegal aliens and one needs to look no further than President Bush to find an example of a Republican who was not tough on illegal immigration.
There are plenty of immigration laws on the books that could be enforced to crack down on the illegal invasion of America but the federal government refuses to enforce these laws so the states have begun to take on this issue themselves. The most notable example is naturally in Arizona where the tough immigration policy they passed is being challenged in the courts by the federal government, but there are other states as well which are enacting tougher immigration laws.
The latest example comes by way of Alabama, whose new law requires schools to verify the immigration status of students, requires the police to arrest any suspect illegal immigrant who can’t provide proof of citizenship, makes it a crime to knowingly transport an illegal alien, and requires companies to use E-Verify to verify the citizenship of any possible employee or face huge fines.
