Barack Obama says America can “absorb” another terrorist attack
Excerpts from Bob Woodward’s new book–Obama’s Wars–have been released and they are very enlightening to say they least. They appear to show that Barack Obama was more concerned with not losing his party than he was about not losing the war.
As frightful as it is that Barack Obama seems to have put politics above providing our troops with the tools they need to win the Afghanistan war, there is one quote that–if true–really bothers the hell out of me:
We can absorb a terrorist attack. We’ll do everything we can to prevent it, but even a 9/11, even the biggest attack ever . . . we absorbed it and we are stronger
Adam Kinzinger fires back at Debbie Halvorson’s campaign for comparing him to Hitler
Campaign workers for Illinois Democrat Congresswoman Debbie Halvorson staged a protest in which they compared Glenn Beck, Sarah Palin, and Halvorson’s opponent in the general election–Captain Adam Kinzinger–to Adolph Hitler.
I wrote about this protest here. Debbie Halvorson originally denied that any of her campaign workers participated in this protest until they were caught on video tape entering her campaign office once the protest was over.
Captain Adam Kinzinger is not going to take this lying down; he has released a new campaign ad attacking Debbie Halvorson for what appears to be a coordinated effort to paint the honorable Air Force pilot as just another fascist, nazi sympathizer. This story hasn’t received the coverage it deserves–or would have received had these been Tea Party activists that were engaged in this despicable behavior.

Republicans to release their “Pledge to America” on Thursday
Taking a cue from Newt Gingrich’s “Contract with America” from the 1990’s, the Republicans are set to release their new “Pledge to America” tomorrow. The full text of the pledge–which I have skimmed through, but have not read thoroughly yet– can be read here, but below is some of the highlights.
Jobs:
– Stop job-killing tax hikes
– Allow small businesses to take a tax deduction equal to 20 percent of their income
– Require congressional approval for any new federal regulation that would add to the deficit
– Repeal small business mandates in the new health care law.
Cutting Spending:
– Repeal and Replace health care
– Roll back non-discretionary spending to 2008 levels before TARP and stimulus (will save $100 billion in first year alone)
– Establish strict budget caps to limit federal spending going forward
– Cancel all future TARP payments and reform Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac
Reforming Congress:
– Will require that every bill have a citation of constitutional authority
– Give members at least 3 days to read bills before a vote
Defense:
– Provide resources to troops
– Fund missile defense
– Enforce sanctions in Iran
There are certainly some good ideas in this pledge; rolling back spending to 2008 levels, tax cuts, reforming Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, repealing healthcare reform, stopping the bailouts, ending TARP (which if I am not mistaken is set to expire in October anyway), and requiring a document that shows where the constitutional authority lies to pass any bill that is introduced in the future, to name a few.
Harry Reid’s attempt to pass the DREAM Act by attaching it to the defense bill fails in the senate
Having failed in two previous attempts to pass the DREAM Act, Harry Reid decided to try to sneak the DREAM Act into the defense appropriations bill in the hopes that the Republicans in the senate would be forced to pass the legislation or risk the political backlash that would follow with the news that they refused funding for our troops in the field.
For those of you who may not know what the DREAM Act is, here is a brief summary: the DREAM Act allows a person who was under 16 when they came to America illegally, graduated high school (at taxpayer expense) and completed at least 2 years of college (and who would be eligible for in-state tuition rates even though they are here illegally) a path towards citizenship. An even shorter way to sum up this legislation would be this: it is amnesty for a certain group of illegal aliens.
The Democrats know that they do not have the votes to pass comprehensive immigration reform so Harry Reid decided to try to push through the senate the most controversial aspect of the comprehensive immigration bill on the backs of our heroes fighting in a land far away. Just the thought of using our troops in this manner sickens me.
But today the Republicans in the senate did not take the bait and by a vote of 56-43 the defense appropriations bill–along with the DREAM Act and the repeal of Bill Clinton’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy–was defeated.
Republicans knew that the Democrats would use this to claim that the Republicans have abandoned the troops in the field, but that is not true as this bill will come up for a vote once again after the midterm elections, so they voted against this backdoor attempt at granting amnesty to a certain group of illegal aliens.
It is going to be interesting to see whether or not Harry Reid tries to use this tactic to pass amnesty when the bill comes up for a vote again later this year, and it will be equally interesting to see what the Republicans do after they do not have to worry about their re-election bids.

Larry Summers to resign after the midterm election
It is being reported here that Barack Obama’s top economic adviser–Larry Summers–will step down after the midterm elections. Larry Summers will be the second member of Barack Obama’s economic team to step down after it was learned not too long ago that Christina Romer was stepping down.
The Obama regime is claiming that Larry Summers’s resignation was voluntary and that these two resignations do not signal a shake up of his economic team.
Barack Obama claims Mexicans were in America before there was an America
During his speech to the Hispanic Caucus Barack Obama claimed that Mexicans were in America before there was an America. Barack Obama said that “long before America was even an idea, this land of plenty was home to many peoples. The British and French, the Dutch and Spanish, to Mexicans, to countless Indian tribes. We all shared the same land.”
And he is correct that there were many different people in this country before America was founded, but there were no Mexicans here because Mexico did not exist. Sure there were Spaniards here, but no Mexicans.
Mexico did not declare its independence from Spain until the year 1810, and Mexico’s independence was not recognized by Spain until 1821. Needless to say, this was long after America became America.
Am I arguing semantics here? Yes I am, but you would think that Barack Obama would at least make sure he was historically correct before he opened his mouth. Or was he just so intent on appeasing the audience he was speaking to that he thought historical accuracy was irrelevant and would only be detrimental to his message?
Barack Obama is lying about the federal debt
During the 2008 presidential campaign much was made about President Bush’s accounting gimmick of not including the expenses of the war efforts in the official budget when the national debt was calculated. Barack Obama promised to end this practice, which he claimed would help to bring more transparency to the federal government.
Here is an excerpt from the article I linked to above:
the U.S. military has largely paid for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan through emergency spending measures, in effect keeping wartime costs off the books. In addition to masking skyrocketing budget growth at the Department of Defense, this process has allowed the services to treat budget supplementals as a piggy bank for new procurement
Here is what Barack Obama said in February of 2009 about President Bush’s defense department using an accounting gimmick to hide the true budget of the United States:
That is why this budget looks ahead ten years and accounts for spending that was left out under the old rules – and for the first time, that includes the full cost of fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan,” he said. “For seven years, we have been a nation at war. No longer will we hide its price
So, Barack Obama is now including the price of the wars in his budget so that Americans will see the truth about the federal budget and national debt; this means that no longer will the federal government use accounting gimmicks to hide the true spending of the federal government, right?
38 Democrats now oppose letting the Bush tax cuts expire
In what is probably nothing more than pre-election positioning, 38 Democrats have now come out publicly in opposition to letting the Bush tax cuts expire on those people making over $250,000 a year. Regardless of the motive this is welcome news.
These 38 Democrats favor at least a temporary extension of the Bush tax cuts that would conveniently stop the largest tax increase in American history from moving forward on their watch until after the election is over.
While the propaganda arm of the Obama regime likes to portray the Tea Party as splitting the Republican party–hurting the Republicans’ chances of taking over at least one branch of the Congress–there is a growing rift within the Democrat party as members of the Congress look to distance themselves from Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi.
Texas sues the EPA for using faulty IPCC data to implement climate change legislation
Because the Obama regime has been unable to force through the Congress its cap and trade legislation they are now looking towards the EPA to implement their radical cap and trade agenda through dictate.
The EPA is positioned to implement this attack on personal freedoms and liberties because of a recent ruling by the John Roberts led Supreme Court decision that greenhouse gasses pose a threat to humanity and therefore can be regulated by the EPA.
The Obama regime has pounced on this decision as “Plan B” in its fight to save the planet from man-made destruction and is ready to dictate to the American people new restrictive legislation of greenhouse gasses in an attempt to control every aspect her subjects’ behavior. The Obama regime is perfectly happy in bypassing the constitutional procedure for passing new laws by using a bloated, out of control government agency to force Americans into compliance with its radical beliefs.
The Tea Party has been called many, many names over the last year or so as the left continues to try to delegitimize the movement and the people in it. At one point last year Nancy Pelosi claimed that healthcare reform protesters were carrying swastikas to Town Hall meetings.
This movement has become bigger than anyone thought it would become and it has taken the Democrats by surprise. With the Tea Party growing as large as it has we shouldn’t be surprised if some undesirable characters become Tea Party members. I would not doubt that there are some people in the movement who are unsavory and might actually carry swastikas to events, but they are few and far between (so far there has been no proof of this actually happening). Most of the millions of Tea Party members are good, hardworking Americans who are fed up with the direction the government is headed and have decided to try to do something about it.
