Juan Williams fired by NPR for anti-Muslim statement on Fox News
It has been a few days since Juan Williams was fired from his NPR radio gig of ten years so on the off chance that you have not read or heard all that you care to on this subject I am now about to give you my two cents on this story.
We all know what Juan Williams said that led to his firing and everyone has their opinion on whether of not the firing was justified. Most people–on both the left and the right–believe it was not justified and neither do I but I do have a slightly different take on this story than most that I have read around the blogoshpere.
When a person uses a qualifier before making a statement (I am not a racist…, I am not a bigot…, etc) it is usually followed by a statement that is contrary to the qualifier, and that is the case with Juan Williams’s statement to Bill O’Reilly as well. Juan Williams’s defenders are claiming that this was not a bigoted statement, and that Juan Williams was telling the truth about how he really felt. They claim that he was speaking from the heart.

Barney Frank–with his denial that Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae were in financial jeopardy–may be more responsible than anyone else for the mortgage collapse that led to the current recession than any other single person, no matter how much he tries to lay the blame at the feet of the Bush administration.
In 2003, when President Bush tried to warn the public that both Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were in trouble it was none other than Barney Frank who claimed that the Bush administration was “exaggerating the threat of safety and soundness” of these entities while claiming that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac should do more to help people that could not afford mortgages get those mortgages anyway.
In essence he claimed the Bush administration was engaging in fear mongering, while at the same time urging Freddie Mae and Freddie Mac not only to continue their lending policies but to expand them as well. He went on to say that he did not see any impending crisis and called Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae “financially sound,” before stating that even if something did happen to these government entities the federal government would never bail them out.
Harry Reid takes credit for saving the world from a depression
Below is a video in which Harry Reid takes credit for fending off a worldwide depression. Even while telling the people that he saved the world, he tells the interviewer that his constituents just don’t understand all that he has done to save the world because as of yet they do not see the results.
This is unbelievable arrogance, is it not? He takes credit–and I am assuming that he also meant the Democrat party as a whole deserves this credit as well–for staving off world depression with the policies of the Democrats, yet in his eyes saving the world is not enough because his constituents will not understand all that he has done to save the world. So he attempts to explain to his constituents just how great a man he is. Meanwhile his district has one of the highest unemployment rates in the country. Is it any wonder that they do not understand that Harry Reid saved the world?
This video does more to show the people he represents exactly how out of touch Harry Reid really is than anything else I could write so I will let his words stand on their own!
Barack Obama has made a couple of interesting cabinet nominations in the last couple of days; the first being his choice of Tom Donilon–a former lobbyist for Fannie Mae–as a National Security Advisor, and now with his choice of Thomas Nides as Deputy Secretary of State.
Perhaps what makes Thomas Nides’s most qualified to work directly underneath Hillary Clinton is probably the fact that he has raised at least $100,000 for Hillary Clinton’s failed presidential bid. He seems to be a well connected political insider and while this would make a great topic for a post on its own that is not what I am going to focus on in this post because there is another angle to this story which I find even more interesting.
Last week Barack Obama named Tom Donilon to the post of National Security Advisor. This is interesting because it turns out that Tom Donilon is a former lobbyist for both Fannie Mae and Goldman Sachs–both culprits in the mortgage meltdown that led to the current financial crisis.
This appointment is also interesting on another level because part of Barack Obama’s campaign promise to end “business as usual” in Washington was his pledge to not hire one single lobbyist in his administration. He even signed an executive order banning lobbyists from his administration, however he has granted several waivers in the past to this executive order and has several lobbyists working for him in the White House.
Christine O’Donnell mocked for asking where in the constitution does the term “separation of church and state” appear
During a recent debate between Christine O’Donnell and Chris Coons, Christine O’Donnell actually drew mocking laughter from the audience when she asked Coons, “where in the Constitution is the separation of church and state?” Her opponent and the liberal media have used this question to imply that she does not have an understanding of the fundamentals written in the constitution. But is that the truth or is it just political spin being used against her?
Instead of laughing at Christine O’Donnell perhaps the left would have been better off picking up a copy of the constitution and reading it before dismissing O’Donnell as being ignorant of the content of the constitution, because if they had they would realize that this is a legitimate question. The term “separation of church and state” appears nowhere in the constitution and that is the point that she was trying to make.
Let us take a look at the part of the first amendment which deals with religion.
Democrats try to bribe seniors with a $250 social security payment
As hard as it may seem to believe, Democrats may have hit a new low with their latest attempt to win re-election in the upcoming mid-term elections. Democrats are now promising senior citizens who are collecting social security that if they are returned to power in November they will give them all a one time social security payment of $250 while warning them that if the Republicans gain the majority they can forget about receiving that $250 bonus in the mail.
Here is what Harry Reid said while attempting to buy the votes of senior citizens with a $250 kiss in the mail:
The Mexican border is just under 2000 miles long and according to this article the Department of Homeland Security is admitting that just under half of that border is under “effective control,” while over half of the border is not under “effective control.” If this were baseball and we were talking about a hitter’s batting average this would be a phenomenal number. But this is the security of the American people we are talking about here and not just a silly game, and as such the fact that roughly half of the Mexican border is not secured is an abysmal indictment of the federal government and their willingness to secure the southern border.
This issue is nothing new and it goes well beyond party lines; neither party has been willing to do what it takes to secure the southern border for various reasons. While both parties talk a good game in regards to sealing the southern border, neither party has made a real effort to do so.
This is more proof–if any were needed–that this issue just isn’t being taken seriously by either party. Politicians are too politically correct to tackle an issue such as this for fear of being called racists and until someone is willing to step up to the plate–to use another baseball analogy–and do something about this, the American people–who are either victims of violent crimes at the hands of illegal aliens, or are losing their jobs to illegal aliens–are the ones who are going to suffer for the government’s unwillingness to act on such an important issue.
I find it disgusting–and more than a little disheartening–that politicians have put the feelings of the illegal aliens above the security of the American people. As American ranchers are being murdered on their property, and as decapitated American bodies are being found at the border, and as illegal drugs continue to flow over the Mexican border, I find it deplorable and even criminal that the federal government is still unwilling to take this issue seriously.
What is it going to take for the government to act on this issue?
Mike McIntyre–a moderate Democrat from North Carolina–is facing a tough re-election campaign and has been trying to distance himself from Nancy Pelosi by claiming that if he is re-elected he will not vote for Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House in the next session of the Congress. This is not a new position among Democrats who are in the midst of tough re-election bids; many of them are trying to distance themselves from the Speaker of the House, who while she probably will win re-election in one of the most liberal districts in the country, remains unpopular in the nation as a whole.
But Mike McIntyre let us in on a little secret while campaigning against Nancy Pelosi: if re-elected she may not run for Speaker of the House again.
ObamaCare: Boeing to cut back on healthcare benefits
We are beginning to see some of the primary results of ObamaCare and so far they are not good. We found out that McDonald’s and other multi-million dollar companies were considering dropping their healthcare benefits because their “mini-meds” programs did not meet the minimum requirements under the new law. Companies such as McDonald’s made the decision that it made better business sense for them to cut out their current healthcare plans altogether and pay the relatively cheap fine to the federal government than it did for them to adopt a healthcare plan that the government found acceptable.
Once the Obama regime realized that this scenario was a potential landmine before the mid-term election the Department of Health and Human Services granted McDonald’s-and other multi-million dollar companies in the same boat as McDonald’s--a waiver that permitted them to keep the insurance that does not meet the federal guidelines. Apparently the government put politics above what was supposed to be one of the main goals of the healthcare reform law–forcing multi-million dollar companies which could afford to provide better benefits to their employees –to provide those better healthcare to their employees.
Now another successful business is feeling the effect of the healthcare reform law; Boeing is threatening to cut back on healthcare benefits to its employees siting the newly enacted law as one of the reasons why this step is necessary.
