New Hampshire House approves in-state tuition for illegals

January 22, 2014

Earlier today the New Hampshire House passed a bill which would grant illegal aliens in-state tuition by a vote of 188-155.

House Bill 474 would require the students to apply for legal residency or sign an affidavit that they will apply for legal residency as soon as they are eligible to do so. Under a 2012 law, all students seeking in-state tuition must sign an affidavit that they are legal residents of the United States. A copy of the application for legal residency or the affidavit must be filed with the University System of New Hampshire.

Under the provisions of the bill this means that roughly 100 illegal aliens in New Hampshire will be eligible for in-state tuition. A small number, but that is not the point.

The bill is unlikely to pass the New Hampshire Senate but we must not take anything for granted. If you are a New Hampshire resident please contact your State Senator and demand that he or she votes against this legislation.

Barack Obama calls al-Qaeda’s resurgence “Junior Varsity”

January 21, 2014

During the 2o12 presidential campaign Barack Obama ran around the country telling the American people that al-Qaeda was on the run. He used this statement as proof that his foreign policy of Neville Chamberlain-like appeasement was working.

Then came the al-Qaeda terrorist attack in Benghazi which left Chris Stevens, Sean Smith, Glen Doherty, and Tyrone Woods dead and if not for the coordinated attack on Mitt Romney by Barack Obama and Candy Crowley the American people might have realized before the election that this statement was not true.

Now that Barack Obama has been sworn in we are seeing radical Islamists in power in Egypt and Libya, and al-Qaeda has taken over Fallujah and  Ramadi and now CNN(!) is reporting that al-Qaeda holds more ground in the Middle East than in any other time in history.

This naturally has Barack Obama on the defensive and when recently asked about to juxtapose his claim about al-Qaeda being on the run with real world events this is what the president had to say:

“The analogy we use around here sometimes, and I think is accurate, is if a jayvee team puts on Lakers uniforms that doesn’t make them Kobe Bryant,” Obama told Remnick. “I think there is a distinction between the capacity and reach of a bin Laden and a network that is actively planning major terrorist plots against the homeland versus jihadists who are engaged in various local power struggles and disputes, often sectarian.”

The NAACP calls black Republican Senator Tim Scott a ventriloquist dummy

January 21, 2014

Oh the tolerant liberal left! There are only two black Senators in the “upper chamber” and one of them, Tim Scott, just happens to be a Republican. This does not sit well with the left, and the NAACP, which feels it has a monopoly when it comes to black people.

The NAACP came out hard against Senator Scott on Martin Luther King Day, bashing him for leaving the Democratic plantation:

A prominent NAACP official recognized Martin Luther King Day by labeling black senator Tim Scott a puppet for the Republican party. “A ventriloquist can always find a good dummy,” said Reverend William Barber II, the president of North Carolina’s NAACP chapter.

The State reports that Barber’s remarks came in a speech in Scott’s home state of South Carolina. “The extreme right wing down here,” he said, “finds a black guy to be senator and claims he’s the first black senator since Reconstruction and then he goes to Washington, D.C., and articulates the agenda of the Tea Party.”

Obamacare: Target to drop healthcare coverage for part-time employees

January 21, 2014

Target has announced that the company will stop offering its part-time employees healthcare insurance and will dump them into Obamacare instead.

Target Corp. said it will end health insurance for part-time employees, joining Trader Joe’s Co., Home Depot Inc. and other retailers that have scaled back benefits in response to changes from Obamacare.

About 10 percent of Target’s part-time employees, defined as those working fewer than 30 hours a week, use the company’s health plans now, according to an announcement posted today on the Minneapolis-based company’s website. Target said it would pay $500 to part-timers losing coverage and a consulting firm will help workers sign up for new Obamacare plans.

“Health care reform is transforming the benefits landscape and affecting how all employers, including Target, administer health benefits coverage,” Jodee Kozlak, Target’s executive vice president of human resources, said in the web posting. She cited “new options available for our part-time team, and the historically low number of team members who elected to enroll in the part-time plan.”

Is New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio trying to punish the wealthy by not plowing snow in their neighborhoods?

January 21, 2014

Much was made in the mainstream media about Chris Christie and Bridgeghazi. While this scandal shows Chris Christie to be a bully and a thug this scandal pales in comparison to the NSA, the IRS, Fast and Furious, Fort Hood, and Benghazi scandals yet you would not know it by listening to the mainstream media.

The die has been cast in the mainstream media about what constitutes a true scandal, political bullying trumps everything else, so one has to wonder what the mainstream media thinks about New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and plowgate.

Some residents of New York City believe that the person they elected to represent them is punishing them for being wealthy by not plowing out their neighborhoods:

Andrew Cuomo declared his political opponents are not welcome in New York

January 20, 2014

Apparently believing he is some type of dictator who can decide who can and cannot live in his state Andrew Cuomo recently declared that the extreme conservatives–you know, those people who believe in traditional values–are not welcome in New York:

“Their problem is not me and the Democrats; their problem is themselves,” he said. “Who are they? Are they these extreme conservatives who are right-to-life, pro-assault-weapon, anti-gay? Is that who they are? Because if that’s who they are and they’re the extreme conservatives, they have no place in the state of New York, because that’s not who New Yorkers are.”

And yet the mainstream media does not seem to have a problem with his declaration because to this point they have not taken him to task for his intoleration. I have only one question: If Rick Perry or Jan Brewer declared that liberals have no place in Texas and Arizona respectively would the mainstream media take such a passive approach to their declarations? I didn’t think so.

Democratic Senator Patrick Leahy says the NSA spying scandal could lead to government control of the people if left unchecked

January 20, 2014

Clearly misunderstanding the Constitutional issues millions of Americans have with the NSA spying scandal Barack Obama addressed the American people last Friday and told us the program will go on whether we like it or not, but in order to make us feel better about this the Federal government will no longer store the information, a private corporation store the data instead. The issue at hand is not where the information is stored but rather whether or not the information should be gathered in the first place, that is what Barack Obama does not seem to understand.

This is about an overreaching Federal government which feels unencumbered by the Constitution or for the privacy rights of its citizens, this is something that Barack Obama might not understand (or care about)  but Democratic Senator Patrick Leahy does understand–to a point.

Here is what he recently had to say about the NSA spying program:

“The concern everybody has is allowing our government to have such a reach into your private life, my private life, and everybody else’s, that we are, we have the government controlling us instead of us controlling the government.”

“I just think that there should be oversight,” Leahy said. “Think back in the history of this county, in J. Edgar Hoover’s day and all — if he had had the power when he was spying on protesters and those against the Vietnam War and Martin Luther King — if he had had the power that’s in here, think what might have happened. We Americans believe in our safety. We also believe in our ability to be private.”

Barack Obama told us that we should not be worried about the program because the NSA and the Federal government is not abusing the information it is gathering but the information gathering is an abuse in and of itself so how are we to trust the government not to abuse the information it is gathering in an abuse of power in the first place?

If the government is collecting information on virtually every single American it goes without saying that the government is collecting information on its political opponents and we are supposed to believe they will not use it? The temptation is just too great, especially when the checks and balances have been removed and the decisions on search warrants are left up to a secret court.

For once Patrick Leahy is on the right side of an issue and if he is worried about the NSA we all should be…..

The Republican establishment is attacking the IRS and the Tea Party at the same time

January 20, 2014

I have written several posts about the IRS targeting scandal and I have written several posts about the Republican establishment, led by Karl Rove, attacking the Tea Party. The Republican establishment has been using the IRS targeting scandal to raise money for the party, while at the same time going after the Tea Party in order to protect the establishment. This is quite ironic considering the IRS was targeting the Tea Party and the Republican establishment is doing the same.

Somehow while covering both of these stories I failed to make this connection, but luckily it has not been lost the national coordinator of the Tea Party Patriots.

Here is what she had to say:

Barack Obama delays yet another Obamacare provision

January 19, 2014

Obamacare is moving forward so swimmingly that the regime has been forced to delay several key components of the law until after the 2014 election in an attempt to temper the disastrous effects and protect Democratic incumbents who voted in favor of the bill.

Now the Obama regime has delayed yet another provision of the law:

The Obama administration plans to delay enforcement of yet another Obamacare provision, according to a New York Times report.

This line in the law would ban employers from discriminating “in favor of highly compensated individuals” when it comes to health insurance eligibility or benefits. Effectively, the provision prevents employers from providing their top executives cushy health benefits while low-level employees are given less optimal health insurance options.

Why would the Obama regime delay a provision which assures the rich would not receive benefits the middle class would not get, especially considering that Barack Obama calls himself a middle class warrior? Why would he allow corporations to take care of the rich if he cared so deeply about punishing the rich for being successful?

Open thread for Sunday, January 19th: Electric Eye

January 19, 2014

Here is the open thread for Sunday, January 19th; please feel free to post links to interesting articles and to discuss whatever issues arise during the course of the day. Nothing is off-topic here.

As usual you can follow America’s Watchtower on Facebook and Twitter by clicking the links on the right. I often post links to articles I probably will not be writing about so it is a great way to keep up with what is going on in the world. You can also subscribe to receive email updates and if you do you will never miss a post again.

In case you have not noticed I have replaced the old Twitter widget with a new, fully interactive Twitter widget. This widget updates my tweets in near real time and allows you to respond to or retweet my tweets right from the blog. Is also allows you to tweet me right from America’s Watchtower. How cool is that! If you do not have a Twitter account what better reason do you need to sign up for one!?

Please check out what the New Federalist Party has been up to by clicking on the link to the right. On the NFP Facebook page you will find a link to the party platform. Check it out and if you like what you see we are currently looking for donations and delegates to the states for the convention.

Now on to the musical selection of the week: I have used this song before, but the NSA spying scandal was back in the news this week after Barack Obama held a press conference and basically stated that the NSA is doing nothing wrong and will continue to collect data on virtually every single American, but will let a private company store our data to make us feel better, so I decided to use the song again. That was a bit of a run-on sentence, wasn’t it? Oh well, I changed the video so it wouldn’t be exactly the same.

Here is Judas Priest performing ‘Electric Eye.’

Up here in space
I’m looking down on you
My lasers trace
Everything you do

You think you’ve private lives
Think nothing of the kind
There is no true escape
I’m watching all the time

I’m made of metal
My circuits gleam
I am perpetual
I keep the country clean

I’m elected electric spy
I’m protected electric eye

Always in focus
You can’t feel my stare
I zoom into you
You don’t know I’m there

I take a pride in probing all your secret moves
My tearless retina takes pictures that can prove

Electric eye, in the sky
Feel my stare, always there
There’s nothing you can do about it
Develop and expose
I feed upon your every thought
And so my power grows

I’m made of metal
My circuits gleam
I am perpetual
I keep the country clean
