Since Darrell Issa finally called Eric Holder’s bluff and scheduled a Contempt of Congress hearing for June 20th the embattled Attorney General has become slightly more responsive. First Eric Holder announced he would release some–not all–of the documents Darrell Issa has been demanding for 18 months. This was not enough for Darrell Issa and he accused Eric Holder of selectively releasing the long sought after documents, and now we are learning that a Department of Injustice official is leaving his job–Ronald Weich announced his resignation.
You may remember him if you have been following this story from the beginning–he is the man who when questioned by Darrell Issa emphatically stated the Department of Injustice would never, ever let guns walk into Mexico:
In an earlier (Feb. 4, 2011) letter to Sen. Charles Grassley, Weich denied that the ATF had ever allowed guns to be sold and taken across the border. Weich said that Grassley’s allegation — “that ATF ‘sanctioned’ or otherwise knowingly allowed the sale of assault weapons to a straw purchaser who then transported them to Mexico – is false. ATF makes every effort to interdict weapons that have been purchased illegally and prevent their transportation to Mexico
Of course we all know that this was simply not true, and I can’t help but think of the irony when it was reported he was leaving to become the dean of a law school.
One of Darrell Issa and Charles Grassley’s biggest complaints was the fact that nobody in the Department of Injustice has been held accountable for this scandal, and now suddenly with Eric Holder facing contempt charges somebody is leaving the DOJ? It is clear to me that Eric Holder is very worried and he is now fighting for his political life–and possibly his freedom–and it is very likely that he is offering up Ronald Weich as a sacrificial lamb in the hopes that this will satisfy the Oversight Committee. I for one hope that is doesn’t.
Facing a possible Contempt of Congress vote Eric Holder appears to be flinching, if only a little bit. Today Eric Holder announced he would provide Darrell Issa with some of the documents he has been seeking for a year and a half. He claims these documents will explain how he provided false testimony to the Congress before changing his story.
“[T]he department is prepared to provide documents that, while outside the scope of the committee’s interest in the inappropriate tactics used in Fast and Furious, are responsive to how the department’s understanding of the facts regarding that matter evolved throughout 2011 and how the department came to withdraw its February 4, 2011 letter to Senator Grassley,” Holder wrote to Issa on Thursday. “The department is willing to accommodate the committee’s interest in those materials
Reading those words by Eric Holder you would think he is going above and beyond what he is required, but thankfully this doesn’t appear to be enough for Darrell Issa:
The DOJ letter only seems to indicate a willingness to offer a selective telling rather than full disclosure of key events that occurred after February 4, 2011,” Watkins wrote in an email. “We expect the Justice Department to quickly provide necessary details about how it is prepared to alter its opposition to producing subpoenaed documents
For the last 18 months Eric Holder has been cherry picking the documents he released, and even those documents were heavily redacted, and now it appears as if he is doing more of the same. To paraphrase Barack Obama when he was speaking of the BP oil spill, Darrell Issa has his boot on the neck of Eric Holder and he mustn’t relent until he has ALL the documents he has requested because then, and only then, will he know whose ass to kick.
I haven’t weighed in on the Obama regime’s leak scandal to this point but it is getting interesting and I think it is time to write a brief post on it. Somebody in the Obama regime is leaking classified information to the press and it just so happens that the leaked information paints Barack Obama as a tough, no nonsense, take no prisoners sort of guy in relation to national defense. All of the leaked information has the potential to strengthen the president’s national security credentials and some have questioned whether the White House actually authorized the leaks for this specific purpose. This is a claim which Barack Obama has stated is “offensive” and “wrong.”
Taking into account the president’s stern denial it would seem likely he would want to clear his name and the best way to accomplish this goal would be to have a special prosecutor investigate the leak scandal. Surely if he had nothing to hide Barack Obama would not be opposed to hiring a special prosecutor, but Eric Holder has refused to appoint a special prosecutor opting instead to appoint two people from within his Department of Injustice.
And as can be read here, these prosecutors will not be granted special powers or independence which means their work will be reviewed by the Department of Injustice before it is made public. We have seen something like this before with regards to Operation Fast and Furious; Eric Holder tried to obstruct Kenneth Melson’s testimony, and threatened two other witnesses while “urging” them to change their testimony before the Oversight Committee in an attempt to control the message, so I think we have a pretty good idea how this will play out.
But it gets worse because according to this article one of the special prosecutors just happens to be a political appointee of Barack Obama’s, and he also just happens to be a donor to the scandal ridden president. The fix is in, will the Republicans allow this to happen?
Video: We deserve accountability on Fast and Furious
Here is a hard hitting ad on Fast and Furious which everybody should see. In one minute is sums up Eric Holder’s lies and betrayal as well as Barack Obama’s support of the beleaguered Attorney General.
When the president put his signature on the National Defense Authorization Act and the FAA Reauthorization Act–two bills which passed the Republican led House with overwhelming support–the stage was set for 30,ooo unmanned drones to begin patrolling the skies of American cities by the year 2020.
These drones would begin watching law abiding American citizens who were not suspected of committing any crime; we will be entering the age of the perpetual police surveillance state as these drones will be allowed to collect information on American citizens as long as they aren’t looking for specific information. So much for the fourth amendment, but it gets even worse because if information is collected which wasn’t authorized that information can still be transferred to law enforcement agencies despite the fact it was illegally obtained.
The state of Florida is in the process of purging its voter rolls of dead people, felons, non-citizens, illegal immigrants, and others who are ineligible to vote in the state to ensure that a free, fair, and legitimate vote takes place in a state which might likely be the key to electing our next president. This did not sit well with Eric Holder and the Department of Injustice and the state was ordered by the federal government to halt its attempt at purging the voter rolls.
The issue at hand here is a federal law which states that all voter rolls must be set at least 90 days before an election and all purging must cease before that period, but Florida has a primary election in August so the Department of Injustice is arguing that Florida is in violation of federal law. And the federal government has a case here, but it is in part due to the fact that the federal government may have gone out of its way to ensure the voter purge couldn’t have been completed in time to meet federal regulations.
Florida Governor Rick Scott claims the state has been trying for a year to get the information from Homeland Security it needed to complete the voter purge on time but–much like Fast and Furious–the Obama regime has been stonewalling the effort so today the state has filed a lawsuit against the federal government:
I have a job to do to defend the right of legitimate voters,” Scott told Fox News on Monday. “We’ve been asking for the Department of Homeland Security’s database, SAVE, for months, and they haven’t given it to us. So this afternoon, we will be filing a lawsuit, the secretary of State of Florida, against the Department of Homeland Security to give us that database. We want to have fair, honest elections in our state and we have been put in a position that we have to sue the federal government to get this information
Here is what Florida Secretary of State Ken Detzner had to say earlier today:
For nearly a year, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has failed to meet its legal obligation to provide us the information necessary to identify and remove ineligible voters from Florida’s voter rolls,” Detzner said. “We can’t let the federal government delay our efforts to uphold the integrity of Florida elections any longer. We’ve filed a lawsuit to ensure the law is carried out and we are able to meet our obligation to keep the voter rolls accurate and current.
When this goes to the courts will the courts consider why Florida wasn’t able to complete the voter purge on time, and take into account the federal government’s role in the delay, or will the court simply declare the state in violation of federal law? I think it is highly likely Florida will lose this lawsuit and the voter purge will be stopped in its tracks, but it does bring to light how low the Obama regime will sink in order to win reelection. The Obama regime knows Florida is a swing state and when Homeland Security learned Florida was going to purge ineligible voters from its roles it appears as if the department purposely stonewalled the information request knowing it would put Florida in violation of federal law.
Gunrunner: Darrell Issa refuses Eric Holder’s request for a private meeting on Fast and Furious–and more
The month of June has not been a friendly one for Barack Obama, but as bad as the month has been for him it may be turning out be be an even worse month for Eric Holder. Throughout the last year and a half, while facing an investigation into Fast and Furious, Eric Holder has remained arrogant and defiant while denying any knowledge of the deadly scandal even as circumstantial evidence seemed to indicate he had to have known about Fast and Furious.
There simply seemed to be no hard proof to tie Eric Holder to Fast and Furious and he knew it because he refused to release the documents which most likely showed a direct link between him and the deadly operation, but that all changed last week when Darrell Issa finally found the whistleblower he was looking for. This person provided Darrell Issa with some of the emails Eric Holder was hoping to keep classified, and these emails show a direct link between a top level Department of Injustice official–who had daily briefings with the beleaguered Attorney General–and Operation Fast and Furious. These emails went so far as to discuss the political ramifications which would ensue one the public became aware of the scandal. Eric Holder could no longer claim Fast and Furious was the action of rogue agents in the field, and he could no longer claim high level officials knew nothing about Fast and Furious.
Gunrunner: Darrell Issa moves forward with contempt charges against Eric Holder, will hold vote on June 20th
After an investigation which has lasted over a year and a half, and despite Eric Holder’s attempt to stonewall the investigation, Darrell Issa is finally moving forward with contempt charges against Eric Holder. The Oversight Committee will vote on June 20th on whether of not to hold Eric Holder in Contempt of Congress and send the charges to the Congress for a full vote on the floor.
And contrary to the earlier reports which speculated that not only was John Boehner not willing to support this action but was working to slow down Darrell Issa’s investigation due to a pending deal between he and Eric Holder, John Boehner has given his blessing to this action:
The Justice Department is out of excuses,” Mr. Boehner said in a statement Monday morning. “Either the Justice Department turns over the information requested, or Congress will have no choice but to move forward with holding the Attorney General in contempt for obstructing an ongoing investigation
With a Republican majority in the Oversight Committee is appears all but certain that contempt charges will be brought against Eric Holder and the resolution will be brought to the floor for a full vote, but how will that vote turn out? By now you have heard Barack Obama’s statement about the private sector economy being fine, and you also have heard him say the real problem actually has to do with cuts in federal spending to the states. Barack Obama was forced to walk back (would this be a flip-flop if it were Romney, just saying…) his comments later last evening when he stated it is obvious the economy isn’t fine.
I think in an unscripted moment of candor Barack Obama revealed quite a bit about himself before clarifying his statement later on in the day when he realized he made the mistake of showing the people his true colors.
He mentioned the private sector in a very dismissive way before moving on to a topic which is much more near and dear to his little heart–government spending. And that is who Barack Obama is in a nutshell; he is a big government guy who has little to no faith or respect for the private sector and he believes the answer to all of America’s problems is more government. Other than taking money in the form of taxes from the private sector to spend on big government programs he really has little use for the private sector and it hasn’t been something he has focused on during his presidency.
Oil lobbyists, bus drivers and garbage men are considered green jobs in Barack Obama’s world
In the video below you will see Barack Obama talk about his green energy policy; in this video he proposes investing $150 billion in green energy and promises this investment will create 5 million jobs.
As president Barack Obama did invest billions of taxpayer dollars in green energy companies such as Solyndra, Solar Trust, SoloPower, Abound Solar, Enir1, BrightSource, Abengoa, SunPower, LightSquared, Tesla, Fisker, and Beacon Power. All of these companies have either already failed, are close to failing, or have deep problems which make the government’s decision to invest in these companies a dubious decision at best.
But despite these failings Barack Obama continues to tout green energy as the wave of the future while downplaying the enormity of these failures by claiming the overall portfolio remains strong. Barack Obama still considers his green energy policy a success and a jobs creator in spite of these failings, but how can he possibly justify this waste of taxpayers money?
