Former Special Forces Commander claims the United States may have been running guns through Benghazi into Syria

January 22, 2013

One of the questions which has yet to be answered about the Benghazi terrorist attack and the ensuing cover-up is what exactly was the Obama regime trying to hide? The Obama regime first floated the lie about the attack growing out of a protest over a You Tube video while the attack was still ongoing and continued to lie about it for weeks after it was known to be a falsehood. It seems odd that the regime had an excuse ready to go while the attack was still in progress, and it seemed equally odd that the regime would continue to lie in front of the United Nations after the truth was learned.

  But why?

Barack Obama to turn Obama for America into a non-profit tax exempt organization

January 21, 2013

One thing that many of us have noticed about Barack Obama is that he is always in campaign mode and now according to this story he is literally taking it to the next level. If you were like me you probably found it curious that after the election Barack Obama didn’t disband his Obama for America campaign or its team, now we know why:

On Friday, First Lady Michelle Obama said the Obama campaign, officially known as Obama for America, will soon be turned into a 501 (c) 4 social welfare non-profit called Organizing For Action that can raise unlimited donations and will become “the next phase of our movement for change.” Former Obama campaign manager Jim Messina will become the group’s chairman of the board, Obama campaign strategist David Axelrod will be a consultant, and Obama media strategist David Plouffe will join the group once he exits the White House.

He is converting Obama for America into Organizing for Action and giving his formed campaign organization tax exempt status so he can still use the organization to further his agenda now and after he leaves office. As the article linked to above states; this is unprecedented.

According to Politico, the group claims it will disclose its donors and not take money from lobbyists or political action committees (PACs), but will take unlimited money from corporations.

Open thread for Sunday, January 20th: GO PATS!

January 20, 2013

Here is the open thread for Sunday, January 20th: feel free to post links to interesting articles as well as discussing whatever issues arise during the course of the day. Nothing is off-topic here. Also a friendly reminder that you can follow me on Facebook and Twitter; you will see stuff there that doesn’t make it onto America’s Watchtower.

I will not be around at all today because I managed to score tickets to the AFC championship game and am taking my youngest son to the game. There will be no politics on my mind for the day and that is a much needed break.

A few short months after the September 11th terrorist attack a team bearing the name the Patriots took to the field as the heaviest underdog in Superbowl history and somehow managed to defeat the Saint Louis Rams on the last play of the game.

It seemed all too fitting to see red, white, and blue confetti falling down from the ceiling as a team named after the patriots of yesteryear celebrated a victory so shortly after the darkest day in United States history. The Patriots are now one of the least liked teams in the NFL but at that time I like to think that all Americans rallied around a team which represented what an underdog can achieve when they have the will power and a belief in themselves even when nobody else believes in them.

Barack Obama nominates one of the men behind Fast and Furious for ATF Director

January 20, 2013

Barack Obama has nominated U.S. Attorney B. Todd Jones for the position of ATF Director. The problem with this choice it the fact that Mr. Jones was one of the people who helped to create the operation known as Fast and Furious which left at least two Americans and hundreds of Mexicans dead, while hundreds of weapons are still being used in crimes to this day.

Jones was personally a part of the high-ranking Department of Justice unit that first met on October 26, 2009, to create the new DOJ policy that was used to justify “gunwalking” in Operation Fast and Furious. In Fast and Furious, the ATF “walked” roughly 2,000 firearms into the hands of the Mexican drug cartels. That means through straw purchasers the agency allowed sales to happen and didn’t stop the guns from being trafficked, even though they had the legal authority to do so and were fully capable of doing so.

According to a congressional report from House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform chairman Rep. Darrell Issa and Senate Judiciary Committee ranking member Sen. Chuck Grassley, Jones was one of several senior DOJ officials in the meeting.

Darrell Issa is not too pleased with this decision:

Acting Director Jones was at the helm of ATF as many troubling problems from the fallout of Operation Fast and Furious festered,” Issa declared. “His specific decisions on a number of Fast and Furious related issues raise concerns about his judgment and ability to lead the agency.

“While I continue to believe that ATF needs to have a Senate confirmed Director, President Obama has a responsibility to find a nominee who can win confirmation and is not saddled by a string of bad decisions related to the agency’s greatest recent failure

Just like Benghazi, where the only person who has been held responsible for the attack is an American “film-maker who is rotting in jail, nobody has been held accountable for the Fast and Furious scandal. A few people have been shifted around and now a man partially responsible for the deadly operation is going to become the permanent head of the ATF if Barack Obama has his way. And this is his idea of accountability?

Barack Obama to use the SEC to overturn Citizens United

January 19, 2013

The Citizens United case has been a bone of contention with the left since the decision came down from the Supreme Court in 2010 that parts of the McCain/Feingold campaign finance reform law were unconstitutional. According to the ACLU this is what the decision did:

The case allowed corporations and unions (including non-profit corporations like
the ACLU or National Rifle Association) to spend “general treasury”
(non-political action committee) funds on political communications that are not
coordinated with a campaign. Citizens United itself has very little to do
with the dreaded “Super PACs,” which are primarily funded by individual
donations. Individuals have been allowed to spend their own money on political
speech since time immemorial (or at least since adoption of the First
Amendment). Further, Citizens United has nothing to do with direct
contributions
to candidates, which are still totally verboten for

corporations and unions and strictly limited for individuals.

The left loves to complain about the corporate donations and how they are co-opting the system because it is assumed these corporations donate to Republicans, while they ignore the fact that this decision also protected union donations which overwhelmingly donate to Democrat candidates.

Barack Obama in the 1990’s: “I don’t think people should be able to own guns”

January 18, 2013

According to this article while Barack Obama was still at the University of Chicago he met with gun rights advocate John Lott and told him that he didn’t believe the people should be allowed to own guns.

The article above then lists four positions Barack Obama has taken in the past on the second amendment:

1. In a 1998 questionnaire for the Illinois state legislature, Obama said he wanted to “ban the sale or transfer of all sorts of semi-automatic weapons.”

2. From 1998-2001 Obama was on the board of the Joyce Foundation, the “major funder for gun-control research” at that time.

3. Obama opposes concealed carry and always has (every state but Illinois disagrees with him).

4. Obama only sees two “legitimate” purposes for guns: “hunting and target shooting.” This means using guns for self defense is not legitimate. And this goes a long way in explaining Obama’s past support of laws banning the use of guns for self-defense in Illinois, even in one’s own home.

In the same survey mentioned above Barack Obama also stated be believed in banning the manufacture, sale and possession of handguns, yet Barack Obama and Jay Carney continue to insist that he is a believer in the second amendment.

At this point the interview with John Lott is just here-say, but if he was such a believer in the second amendment why would he and his propagandist have to keep assuring the American people he is a supporter of the second amendment, wouldn’t his record speak for itself? In my opinion it does and me thinks he doth protest too much.

West Point releases a report which claims “anti-federalists” and the “far right” are a danger

January 18, 2013

The fourth most viewed post on America’s Watchtower is a post I wrote back in 2009 about the now infamous Homeland Security report on the threat of right wing extremists in which the department labeled returning United States veterans as a possible terrorist threat. This report labeled pro-lifers, small government advocates, and people who are against illegal immigration along with veterans returning from war as possible terrorist threats and lumped them in with white supremacists.

With the gun grabbers now in full throat after the massacre at the Sandy Hook Elementary School the Obama regime is trying to gin up support for the usurpation of the second amendment by tugging on the heartstrings of Americans by using children as a political prop, but that really hasn’t managed to change the opinions of enough Americans so the regime is once again turning to “right wing extremism” in order to scare the American people into supporting its assault on the second amendment.

This time the willing co-conspirator is none other than a West Point think tank called the Combating Terrorism Center, which has now released a warning about the far-right anti-federalist movement. Included in this report about potential terrorists are people who support “civil activism, individual freedoms and self-government.” Read more…

Gunrunner: Eric Holder asks the court not to order the release of Fast and Furious documents

January 17, 2013

When the Fast and Furious investigation began to close in on Eric Holder (and possibly Barack Obama himself) he ran to the president and begged him to use his executive power to seal the documents Darrell Issa and Charles Grassley had been trying to gain access to for over a year, and naturally Barack Obama obliged him.

As you can read about in the article I linked to above this move actually led to more questions about what the Obama regime was trying to hide in this deadly scandal.

Judicial watch issued a Freedom of Information Act request last June but the Obama regime has failed to comply with this request so they have sued the Obama regime in an attempt to force compliance with FOIA.

Getting beyond the Obama administration’s smokescreen, this lawsuit is about a very simple principle: the public’s right to know the full truth about an egregious political scandal that led to the death of at least one American and countless others in Mexico. The American people are sick and tired of the Obama administration trying to rewrite FOIA law to protect this president and his appointees. Americans want answers about Fast and Furious killings and lies.

In 1999 Barack Obama refused to vote for tougher prosecution of people who discharged firearms in a school district

January 16, 2013

1999 was the year of the Columbine High School shooting and Barack Obama was a State Senator in Illinois. In the wake of that tragedy the Illinois State Senate voted on tougher measures for people who discharged a firearm in a school district and Barack Obama refused to vote in favor of the legislation–voting “present” instead.

Flash forward to today’s announcement and we find Barack Obama now calling for tougher restrictions on law abiding gun owners.

He refused to vote for tougher prosecution of people who actually broke the law and now he is looking to punish those who have not broken the law. I think this tells us all we need to know about the president. This is not about protecting the children because he wasn’t interested in protecting the children in 1999, this is about gun control pure and simple, the 1999 vote did nothing to address the second amendment so he wasn’t interested.

Barack Obama on raising the debt ceiling in 2006: “It’s a sad state of affairs”

January 15, 2013

Yesterday Barack Obama gave what is probably the most condescending and arrogant press conference in United States history and in this press conference he said this about the debt ceiling:

The issue here is whether or not America pays its bills,” Obama said at a press conference on Monday, the last of his first term in office. “We are not a deadbeat nation”

Barack Obama feels it would be irresponsible for the Congress not to raise the debt ceiling, but he didn’t always feel that way–as I wrote about here the last time we have to suffer through the debt ceiling debate–because while he was running for president in 2008 he stated that President Bush was unpatriotic and irresponsible for adding to the national debt.
