$1 million lottery winner is still using food stamps
Every once in awhile I read a story which just makes me shake my head in amazement, and causes me to wonder what the hell is going on in the United States of America and in the minds of a growing percentage of the people of this great nation. This is one of those stories.
Amanda Clayton hit the Michigan state lottery for $1 million yet is still using $200 worth of food stamps a month because she doesn’t have a job. This is how she justified her abuse of the food stamp system:
I feel that it’s okay because I mean, I have no income and I have bills to pay,” she said. “I have two houses”
She has two houses and bills to pay so she needs this extra cash to help her make ends meet even though she hit the lottery. She also purchased a new car and hell, somebody has to help her pay for it, so why not let the American people help her make ends meet?
This is the epitome of the entitlement mindset which is gripping many people in the United States who feel the government owes them something. This woman has more than most Americans and yet it isn’t enough; she feels it is okay for taxpayers to help her buy food even though she had an unbelievable stroke of luck and hit the lottery. And this is the mindset we are battling as we try to bring entitlement spending under control in this country; this is the mindset that Barack Obama is promulgating with his class warfare rhetoric pinning the 1% against the 99%.

I am honestly trying to stay out of the media’s diversionary tactic which can most adequately be code named Operation Change the Subject–I have only written two post on the contraception issue–but they keep dragging me back in. It is my mantra that the veracity of the feigned outrage on any given subject by the left is directly proportional to how far to the left or right the defendant is; and that is never more evidenced in Barack Obama’s acceptance of a $1 million donation from Bill Maher, who has said things about conservative women which are equal to and in some cases even more offensive than Rush Limbaugh’s ‘slut’ comment.
So I was quite pleased to read that liberal Democrat strategist Kirsten Powers called out the left’s hypocrisy on this issue in this article. It is about time that somebody on the left admitted there was a double standard at play in the media and among the Democrats themselves, and it is about time that a liberal woman stood up against the onslaught that people like Michelle Malkin, Sarah Palin, and Laura Ingraham have taken over the last couple of years from members of the group of people who are supposed to be so tolerant of others.

United Nations calls for disciplinary action against the United States for Koran burning
In the wake of Barack Obama’s assurances that the multiple apologies issued to the Middle East in the wake of the accidental Koran burnings have helped to quell the violence in the region two more people–Afghan citizens–were killed earlier today at a United States base in Afghanistan in a protest against the Koran burnings.
Meanwhile the United Nations is calling for disciplinary action to be taken against those who are responsible for this “grave mistake.” Simply going through sensitivity training on the proper way to handle religious materials is not enough for the United Nations, they want punishment for those involved:
I agree with those who say that after this apology and after the investigation disciplinary actions should follow, those who were behind this grave mistake should be held accountable for it
The people who were behind this “grave mistake” must be punished? Grave mistake? You would think the United States just firebombed Dresden by this reaction, when in fact it appears as if the “offenders” were simply following protocol for the destruction of property which was being used by the captured enemy to communicate with the outside world to further their cause in the war.
Rush Limbaugh apologizes for ‘slut’ comment, when will Obama apologize for calling Republicans ‘teabaggers?’
The media was abuzz last week over Rush Limbaugh calling a young law student a slut. I am not in the habit of defending Rush Limbaugh as I feel that many times he does more to hurt the conservative cause then he does to help it–and this is one of those times. He has fallen right into the trap laid before conservatives by the media and the Democrats, and much like the Republican candidates running for president, he has veered away from the important issues of the day and let the media control the discussion. Meanwhile gas prices continue to rise, Iran is flexing her muscles, the economy is still in peril, the Arab Spring is a disaster, and our president’s record is abysmal. Is it any wonder that the Democrats are more than happy to focus on birth control and Rush Limbaugh than the president’s record?
Yet here we are doing just that and Rush Limbaugh is partly to blame for keeping this alive, all for his own personal gratification and promotion. (And I suppose I am guilty as well for writing about it.) Well, last night Rush Limbaugh apologized for calling Sandra Fluke a slut, while defending his position that it isn’t up to the government to fund a person’s sex life.

After Herman Cain was forced out of the presidential race (by the Romney campaign?) Mitt Romney was able to assume the mantle of being the only Washington outsider, and he has repeatedly stated that it was time to send a Washington outsider to the White House to straighten out the mess made by the insiders. It just so happens that this closely resembles the argument that Barack Obama made while running for president in 2008, wasn’t he also an outsider who would go to Washington and straighten it out? How’d that work out?
But back in 2002, when he was running as a liberal candidate for governor of Massachusetts, Mitt Romney actually bragged about the fact that he was able to use his Washington connections to secure millions of dollars in federal money to save the Olympics (did you hear he saved the Olympics? I think he might have mentioned this once or twice.) and promised he would do the same if he became governor of Massachusetts.
So technically he hasn’t spent time in Washington–as has Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich–but he has connections who have, so he is playing a game of semantics. During the last debate Mitt Romney made the asinine statement that he was right to ask for federal money to save the Olympics but that Rick Santorum was wrong for voting to give the money to him. Talk about playing both sides of the fence, and talking out of both sides of your mouth!

Barack Obama’s Energy Secretary admits his goal isn’t to bring down the price of gas
Barack Obama once famously stated that his energy policy would necessarily make the price of energy skyrocket; he also has stated in the past that he didn’t have a problem with the high gas prices during President Bush’s reign, and only lamented the fact that gas prices rose too quickly and this didn’t afford the American people enough time to get used to the new prices.
Barack Obama’s Transportation Secretary, Ray LaHood, also quipped that it was his goal to coerce the American people out of their cars, and Energy Secretary Steven Chu stated that he would like to see gas prices in the United States reach the same level as prices in Europe.
So it really isn’t all that surprising that yesterday the aforementioned Energy Secretary admitted it is not the goal of the Obama regime to do anything about lowering the gas prices. Read more…
Mitt Romney tells us how he really feels about the Republican base
As is evidenced by the rise of Newt Gingrich, Herman Cain, Rick Perry, and Rick Santorum at various points in the campaign it is clear that Mitt Romney has a problem with the more conservative wing of the Republican party. Conservatives do not trust Mitt Romney and they have been trying to find a conservative alternative to him since the very beginning of the primary season.
And there is good reason for conservatives to be concerned about a Mitt Romney presidency; he holds no true core beliefs other than his belief that he deserves to be president and he will do or say whatever it takes for him to reach his goal, and once reached he will do or say whatever it takes for him to remain in power. This is the main reason why Mitt Romney is having so much trouble gaining momentum in this race and claiming the mantle that everyone said was his before a single vote was cast. This is why he hasn’t yet sealed the deal.
Mitt Romney is no conservative and with the words he uttered earlier today conservatives should once again call into question how Mitt Romney actually feels about them. Simply put, Mitt Romney doesn’t care for the Republican base and in fact may harbor a little animosity toward the base.

DOJ denies any knowledge of bribery within the department, even though there are indictments on the table
On February 2nd I wrote this post about two “Justice” Department prosecutors who had taken bribes and as of yet they have been unpunished by Eric Holder. This story broke on the very same day that Eric Holder was testifying in front of the Oversight Committee on another scandal his “Justice” Department is embroiled in–the deadly Operation Fast and Furious debacle–so it slipped under the radar.
Here is a little of the back story:
A U.S. Justice Department source has told The Daily Caller that at least two DOJ prosecutors accepted cash bribes from allegedly corrupt finance executives who were indicted under court seal within the past 13 months, but never arrested or prosecuted.
The sitting governor of the U.S. Virgin Islands, his attorney general and an unspecified number of Virgin Islands legislators also accepted bribes, the source said, adding that U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder is aware prosecutors and elected officials were bribed and otherwise compromised, but has not held anyone accountable.
In a letter to Charles Grassley the “Justice” Department has denied any knowledge of the fact that two corrupt prosecutors have taken bribes. Much like Fast and Furious, Eric Holder is, conveniently, blissfully ignorant about what has been happening under his watch in the “Justice” Department.
Thomas Jefferson warns about the dangers of the national debt, Part II
My last post was entitled “Thomas Jefferson warns about the dangers of the national debt in 1816” because in light of the $1.6 trillion debt the United States is about to incur I found his warning to be quite relevant today. While writing to Samuel Kercheval in 1816, Thomas Jefferson railed against the dangers of a perpetual national debt because he felt it would lead to over taxation of the people, which in turn would lead to a tyranny over the people due to the fact people would have to work longer hours to feed the greed of the national government, while having less of their hard earned money to make ends meet without the government having to step in and provide sustenance for the people who would otherwise be able to provide for themselves.
After reading a letter from Thomas Jefferson to Albert Gallatin in 1820 earlier today, I decided a follow up post would be in order.
