Sunday, May 8th open thread: ‘So Cold’

May 8, 2016

open-thread Here is the open thread for Sunday, May 8th. Please feel free to post links to interesting articles and to discuss whatever issues arise during the course of the day. Nothing is off-topic here.

Last week we discussed 11 stories, did you miss any of them? If so there is an easy way to make sure it does not happen again. I understand that all of you are busy and cannot always find the time to check the blog for updates so why not subscribe to America’s Watchtower and receive email updates whenever I write a new post? That is the easiest way to follow the blog to ensure you never miss another post.

In addition to subscribing you can also follow America’s Watchtower on Facebook and Twitter by clicking the links on the right. But you will get more than that for I often post links to articles I probably will not be writing about so it is a great way to keep up with what is happening.

The Twitter widget in the sidebar is fully interactive. This widget updates my tweets in real time and allows you to respond to or retweet my tweets right from the blog. It also allows you to tweet me right from America’s Watchtower. How cool is that! If you do not have a Twitter account what better reason do you need to sign up for one!

Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers out there. Happy Mother’s Day mom, I love you. And also to Mooks, we love you and miss you.

On a personal note I had my six month followup MRI and visit with the neurologist this week and everything came back fine: my brain has healed from the surgery and there is no sign of the tumor returning, praise be to God!

I don’t have any special Mother’s Day song for you but here is Breaking Benjamin performing “So Cold.”

Bernie Sanders warns Debbie Wasserman Schultz about stacking the Democratic convention in favor of Hillary Clinton

May 6, 2016

bernies-sanders-nuts Much has been made, and rightly so, in the mainstream media about the divisions within the Republican party between Donald Trump and the establishment, but despite all this I find it ironic that while the Republican contest has all but been decided at this point it is the establishment within the Democratic party which is still fighting to ensure the nomination of the person who was assumed from the beginning to be the heir apparent to Barack Obama. The mainstream media has been ignoring the fight within the Democratic party but the divisions are real nonetheless.

Liberal icon and Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren (who once claimed to be a Native American for personal gain) has been claiming for quite awhile that the system is rigged (we must ignore the fact she used the system to claim Native American status) and she is right, but while she was talking about the economy I am talking about the Democratic primary system. The Democratic primary system, through the use of the superdelegates, has been rigged to secure Hillary Clinton the nomination. But that is only the beginning…

The Firewall with Bill Whittle: ‘President Failure’s Smart Diplomacy’

May 6, 2016

Bill Whittle has released his latest Firewall video entitled “President Failure’s Smart Diplomacy.” As you can tell by the title he takes on Barack Obama failed policies in the Middle East, and elsewhere for that matter.

Huma Abedin interviewed by the FBI in Hillary Clinton email scandal

May 5, 2016

Huma Abedin I don’t know if the regular readers of America’s Watchtower noticed but earlier today a couple of people commented on another post I had written concerning Hillary Clinton’s email scandal. They basically mouthed the left’s talking points about this being nothing but a partisan witch-hunt and a waste of taxpayers money. I asked them if they had heard the FBI was also investigating the email scandal because it seems to me the left likes to ignore this stubborn little fact–and thus far they have ignored my comment.

And speaking of the FBI’s investigation into the email scandal, these two readers might be interested in learning that today the FBI interviewed Hillary Clinton’s longtime and most trusted aide,  Huma Abedin. Here is more:

John Kasich drops out of the Presidential race

May 4, 2016

Back in the middle of March Dick Morris stated that he believed Donald Trump and John Kasich struck a secret deal in order to stop Ted Cruz from blocking the billionaire businessman from winning the nomination on the first ballot. Dick Morris believed his reward for doing so would be the Vice Presidency.

John Kasich has been claiming he was staying in the race because he thought he would be the nominee if the convention was brokered and at one point he claimed it was going to be fun. However now that Ted Cruz has left the race it appears as if John Kasich has changed his tune because he has now dropped out of the race clearing the way for Donald Trump.

It did not take long for John Kasich to change his mind once Ted Cruz was out of the race, did it? This move makes it look like Dick Morris was on to something. If Donald Trump names John Kasich as his running mate we will know the fix was in…

Ted Cruz drops out of the Presidential race

May 3, 2016

After a disastrous showing in Indiana earlier tonight, and coupled with multiple stinging defeats in recent weeks, Ted Cruz announced a few moments ago that he is suspending his campaign. This should clear the way for Donald Trump to secure the Republican nomination for President before the convention, John Kasich has no chance at stopping the billionaire businessman on his own and even with the help of the Republican establishment the chances of stopping Donald Trump are all but gone.

I was probably not going to vote for Ted Cruz if he was the Republican nominee but this seals the deal, if my choices in November are between either two New York liberals or one New York liberal and one Vermont socialist then I have also officially dropped out of the Republican race.

  Gary Johnson 2016!

Donald Trump win the Indiana primary in a landslide

May 3, 2016

CNN has already projected Donald Trump as the winner in Indiana and it was not even close. As I write this the billionaire businessman has about a 20 point lead over the Senator from Texas and John Kasich is a distant third with about 8% of the vote. I do not foresee much change in the end results.

This could be the final nail in Ted Cruz’s Presidential coffin unless he is able to secure enough sympathetic delegates which will switch votes on a second ballot at the convention in the event Donald Trump does not reach 1,237. At this point in time, with polls showing Donald Trump with a huge lead in California, it appears likely Donald Trump will win the nomination before the convention.

Consider this an election night open thread.

Does Donald Trump have a problem with the First Amendment?

May 3, 2016

Does Donald Trump have a problem with the First Amendment? I think that is a fair question to ask and here is why:

Back in February Donald Trump threatened that as President he would use libel laws to sue the media “like you never got sued before” if they write stories he deems to be “horrible and negative.” Here is what he said back then:

“And one of the things I’m going to do, and this is only going to make it tougher for me — and I’ve never said this before, but one of the things I’m going to do if I win, and I hope I do, and we’re certainly getting there, I’m going to open up the libel laws so when they write horrible and negative and false articles, we can sue them and win lots of money,” he continued. “We’re going to open up those libel laws, so that when The New York Times writes a hit piece which is a total disgrace, or when The Washington Post, which is there for other reasons, writes a hit piece, we can sue them and win money instead of having no chance of winning because they’re totally protected. You see? With me they’re not protected, because I’m not like other people, but I’m not taking money. I’m not taking their money. So we can put up those libel laws and we’ll have people sue you like you never got sued before.”

This is part of what I wrote in response:

Hillary Clinton struggles to explain her comment on putting coal miners out of work

May 3, 2016

Last month Hillary Clinton, apparently channeling Barack Obama from 2008, promised us that her global warming policy would shut down coal plants and put coal miners out of work. But of course if you work in the coal industry you should not be worried because the government will be there to help the people the government hurt in the first place…

New national poll shows Donald Trump slightly ahead of Hillary Clinton

May 2, 2016

A new Rasmussen poll has been released and it shows Donald Trump slightly ahead of Hillary Clinton in the general election by a margin of 41%-39%. Regular readers of America’s Watchtower know how I feel about national polls–they can be used as an indicator to gauge public opinion but individual state polls are more useful in predicting the outcome of a general election because of the electoral college.

This poll has an added caveat which put Donald Trump over the top: the poll removed the option to sit out the election. That option was included in the last Rasmussen poll and that poll had the two candidates in a dead heat. Here is more:
