December 27th open thread: This Corrosion

December 27, 2015

open-thread Here is the open thread for Sunday, December 27th. Please feel free to post links to interesting articles and to discuss whatever issues arise during the course of the day. Nothing is off-topic here.

If you include what amounted to two open threads this week we covered 12 stories, did you miss any of them? If so there is an easy way to make sure it does not happen again. I understand that all of you are busy and cannot always find the time to check the blog for updates so why not subscribe to America’s Watchtower and receive email updates whenever I write a new post? That is the easiest way to follow the blog to ensure you never miss another post.

In addition to subscribing you can also follow America’s Watchtower on Facebook and Twitter by clicking the links on the right. But you will get more than that for I often post links to articles I probably will not be writing about so it is a great way to keep up with what is happening.

The Twitter widget in the sidebar is fully interactive. This widget updates my tweets in real time and allows you to respond to or retweet my tweets right from the blog. It also allows you to tweet me right from America’s Watchtower. How cool is that! If you do not have a Twitter account what better reason do you need to sign up for one!

This week’s musical selection is Sisters of Mercy performing “This Corrosion” live in 1987.

Trey Gowdy to endorse Marco Rubio

December 26, 2015

Rumors have been circulating today that Trey Gowdy was going to endorse Marco Rubio and according to this story it seems as if this has now been confirmed. Here is more:

Townhall has confirmed rumors that Rep. Trey Gowdy — widely admired as a principled fighter among many grassroots conservatives — will join Sen. Marco Rubio on the campaign trail in Iowa next week

It seems highly unlikely, nay, improbable and unbelievable that Trey Gowdy would campaign for Marco Rubio in Iowa if he was not endorsing him.

He is throwing himself in with the establishment again: first Trey Gowdy paved the way for Paul Ryan to become the Speaker of the House by refusing to run, then he refused to run for Majority Leader, and now this; it makes you wonder if his Benghazi investigation was nothing but a continuation of the Issa/Boehner dog and pony show…

Bernie Sanders accuses the DNC of planting a mole in his campaign

December 26, 2015

Last week the Democratic National Committee blocked the Bernie Sanders campaign from accessing the party’s national voter database after it was discovered that somebody in his campaign inappropriately  (there’s that word again) accessed Hillary Clinton’s campaign database 25 times. This led Bernie Sanders to file suit against the DNC, claiming the committee was trying to sabotage his campaign and protect Hillary Clinton. The DNC eventually gave him back access to the national database after an agreement was reached however the lawsuit is still impending, Bernie Sanders is still suing the DNC. You can read more of the backstory here if you missed it.

Today the Sanders campaign upped the ante by claiming this is a conspiracy. Here is more:

Bill Nye is upset people are not talking about global warming over the Christmas holiday

December 25, 2015

I have been waiting for scientists, liberals, and the mainstream media (but I repeat myself) to blame the warm Christmas weather on global warming but until recently I have been disappointed. But then a few days ago Bette Midler became the first celebrity to claim that global warming was the cause of the warm weather and now Bill Nye, The Science Guy, is lamenting the fact that people are not talking about this issue.

  Here is the interview:

Merry Christmas Everybody!

December 25, 2015

I would like to take a few moments this morning to wish everybody a very Merry Christmas and I hope you all have a happy New Year.

Luke 1:31-33:

You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus.  He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end

Here is The Cure performing Merry Christmas Everybody live in 1987. This is the only known recording of this song so the audio is not great and there is no video.

‘Twas the Night Before Christmas; A Soldier’s Poem

December 24, 2015
tags:

Tonight is Christmas Eve and while we must not forget the real reason for the season I also like to take a moment to remember those people who are not able to be with their families on Christmas because they are serving our country in lands far from home.

So in keeping with an America’s Watchtower tradition here is ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas; A Soldier’s Poem.

Bette Midler blames warm Christmas season on ‘climate deniers’ despite NOAA’s admission it is natural

December 23, 2015

According to this story Bette Midler is blaming “ignorant selfish climate deniers” for the beautiful weather we are enjoying this Christmas season.

Here is what she tweeted earlier today:

Dec. 22, 2015, 63 degrees in NYC. I would like to thank the ignorant selfish climate deniers for all their goodwill toward the planet

global_warming I find that to be strange because just last week a NOAA official, Mike Halpert, stated that this warm weather was natural and was not being caused by global warming. She must have conveniently missed that story, as well as the story that NASA, just six days ago, admitted that burning fossil fuels actually cools the planet.

But of course she is pushing a political agenda, and not an environmental agenda as the global warming alarmists would like us to believe, and the end justifies the means so even if she did read these stories she would have ignored them.

Why do I care about what one liberal Hollywood elitist has to say about this? Normally I would not however I believe her statement is typical of what we can expect to hear from the global warming alarmists if this weather continues: they will blame and denigrate climate deniers (which by the way is an offensive term because they are using it to equate us with Holocaust deniers) despite the fact NASA has admitted the truth, albeit probably by mistake.

The revolution will be complete when the language is perfect…

Latest national poll shows Ted Cruz closing in on Donald Trump and tied with Hillary Clinton

December 22, 2015

A new Quinnipiac poll is out which shows that Ted Cruz is closing in on Donald Trump, trailing the billionaire businessman by only four points.

  Here is more:

Trump has 28 percent of the GOP pack, with Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas at 24 percent. Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida has 12 percent and Dr. Ben Carson has 10 percent, the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University Poll finds. No other candidate tops 6 percent with 8 percent undecided

Furthermore the poll shows Donald Trump trailing Hillary Clinton in the general election by seven points at 47-40 percent while Ted Cruz is tied with the former Secretary of State at 44 percent and Marco Rubio is trailing Hillary Clinton by one point at 44-43 percent.

But the news is worse for Donald Trump if Bernie Sanders miraculously pulls off the upset over Hillary Clinton–he trails the socialist from Vermont by an even bigger margin at 51-38 percent while both Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio have small leads over Bernie Sanders.

Of course I must give my standard admonition here: take this poll for what it is worth because it is a national poll and until the National Popular Vote movement is successful we have 50 individual elections and not a national election.

ZoNation: Why does God ‘allow’ evil in the world?

December 22, 2015

Atheists love to ask the following question: if God exists why does he allow evil? The truth is that God does not allow evil but rather people have chosen evil. God gave people free will but in the beginning man chose, through God’s gift of free will, to ignore God’s command–the ultimate betrayal! We are to blame for all that is wrong in the world, not God.

In the latest ZoNation video Zo attempts to explain how all the bad things which are now present in the world is because of what I stated above. He talks about the hypocrisy of trying to blame a God people have shunned for all the problems in the world and how the atheists are demanding that God fix what we have screwed up when if we obeyed him in the beginning none of this would be happening. “Mankind’s way is the problem.”

My favorite line in this video might be this: “because we are beings with free will we are basically free radicals to God.”

I hope you all will check this one out!

Will the Republican establishment run a third party candidate if Donald Trump wins the nomination?

December 22, 2015

Much has been made about the possibility of Donald Trump running as a third party candidate if he does not win the Republican nomination, however he emphatically stated during the last debate that he would not do so. (Personally I do not trust him but that is neither here nor there for the sake of this post.) But while all of the focus has been on what happens if Donald Trump does not win the nomination nobody has asked what happens if he does.

When I first read this Politico story a couple of days ago about the possibility of the Republican establishment running a third party candidate if Donald Trump wins the nomination I wrote it off as a left-wing website trying to stir the pot a little bit but here is part of what the article said:
